Ok I graduated from High school this year WOO CLASS OF 07! sorry lol, but anyways I am now living with my mom and step dad and I have no clue what to do with my life. I am working a job that will get me nowhere (burger king) and I don't see any better jobs in the future any time soon.

I was highly considering the military (because college is too expensive) but my mom says she would really like me to wait until the war is over to join, what would you do in my situation?

there's no way the war will end before Jan '09.

So you may be waiting a while before joining.

Also community college isn't too expensive.

Get a job, go to college, join the military, or go to trade school.

College sounds like a good idea, it's just the whole money situation, my parents aren't rich (my dads in debt up to his eyeballs!) and my mom is barely making it, also I couldn't pay for it working minimun wage, no way!

Get a student loan, most people do. Or, go into the military, serve your years, and come back and go to college on the government.

Well many people will tell you to get your ass to college, but why do that? Why not spice up your life by being a male prostitute?

As a resident of your state, what are the per semester hour tuition fees at the closest community college?

Go to college, it'll pay for itself several times over during your lifetime. Go into a subject that you know you can give you a solid job when you get out, like engineering or nursing.

I would recommend college. Hard to get a decent job these days without a college education. You really limit your opportunities if you don't.

The military sounds like a good idea too, can anyone from experience say if the military is a good choice? Will I have to fight in Iraq if I join say the Navy?

Honestly, if you have any comminuty colleges around, just take a couple classes for the time being while you figure out what you want to do. That would be flexible to keep working and they aren't expensive at all. And if you take courses that are the basics (like english, art, math) you could transfer them to larger schools, if you decide to go that way.

Why would you join the military, and not expect to fight, regardless if there was a war going on?

Get a student loan, most people do. Or, go into the military, serve your years, and come back and go to college on the government.LukeAF24

I've always hated the ideas of loans. Firstly, I just hate the idea of owing money at all. Curernt use bills are enough, I simply hate te idea of borrowingso much money that I'm gonna have to owe money for the next 40 years.

Secondly, I know way to many college graduates with masters degrees who are working at Wal-Mart or Red Lobster because those are the highest paying jobs they can find. Screw that. Wal-Mart and Red Lobster don't pay ****. I don't want to get stuck working at Red ****ing Lobster andf then having to owe thousands of dollars in loans on top of that.

**** that. I could be working at Red Lobster anyway. Until I'm GUARANTEED to get a good job once I get my degree(s), the hell with loans. I'll pay for that **** as I can afford to. And if I am too broke to take any classes next semester, then I guess I'll just have to take a semester off.

But I'll be damned if I'm going to go into debt just to get a degree, and then be broke as **** because I'm paying off a loan for a degree that didn't help me out one ****ing bit.

Because usually

No war - Less chance of fighting and dying.

Try some community college and then you can transfer to a university if you want to. The most important thing here is that you get a higher education. A highschool diploma can only get you so far.

Sorry, thought it was more of an after HS maliase type thing. Well, there are different night classes they offer at these schools, depending on the school. Well, let me start, what do you like or think you'd like for work? Because a trade school or something may be adviceable.

I'm thinking on college in the Spring ('07, too. 8)) or sticking to some serious training, focusing on the martial art. I'm quitting my first job on a payroll, Dairy Queen (since May this year), later today (it's 12:22 A.M. over here). I'm just going to keep training, pushing my limits.

Even though many people are telling me "join" and "don't join" the military, especially given the situation of 1st world country-governments...namely my home-'country'(U.S.), I've thought little of it. I have no need to become a dog of the military (No offense).

College, the military is for people who think they can't deal with college. You can get a student loan, and if you major in a good career path, you will be able to pay them back in no time. But, if you major in lets say english, you're going to fail in life miserably.

You can either risk your life in the military or put yourself in loan debt.

By the way if you join the military I will hunt you down and beat you with something.

If you are afraid of Dying at All, the millitary is not the right choice for you, but my freind Tim is going to NAU for Four years and then serving in the Army for four years.

The real answer to your question lies in you, a forum on a gaming site isn't going to truly help you. I'm going to be a senior this year (high school) and my life is set. Im going to a community college to get my Base credits done, and then off to ASU to take a few film/drama classes and hopefully go to (name escapes me for somereason) An Acting School in California to eventually become a professional working actor.

Because usually

No war - Less chance of fighting and dying.

So?

I've met a few people like that, and they've pissed me off.

"But but...I shouldn'thave to fight. I just wanted to get an education."

Hey, Einstein, it's not the military's job to give you free schooling for no ****ing reason. They pasy for your education so that they can get you to fight for them.

It's not rockedt science. They want good fighters and smart officers. ESPECIALLY when there's a war going on. I remember when my life long friend of 20 years joined the marines and then started crying at me because the new Iraq War happened and he had to get shipped off to fight. And I was like, "dude, yuou know I love you, but **** you. You joined the marines. The ***ing marines. Do NOT cry to me about how you now have to get shipped off to Iraq to fight. I do not want to ****ing hear it."

Because you chose to become a military.

Back to the TC, if I were you, maybe college, but since I didn't get any scholarships yet (no apps sent in), I'm saving up some money to deal with it on my own...so maybe I'd be doing the same thing I'm doing now...waiting for a Tekken DR or Gears of War tournament with a money prize for the winners.

Some jobs really pay for you're college as long as you keep up good grades(nothing below a C). i know best buy does after you work there for 6 months, hopefully some job like that can help you're decision.

Do what I did and it worked for me...

1. Go to college and double major, graduate with BA and BS degrees in 5 years
2. Work 2 part-time jobs because the job market is flooded
3. Get married to someone who has a good health plan through her employer
4.Enlist in the military the same month you get married and get a GI bill that is basically useless
5. Get out of the military ASAP, get a real job and settle down

I have no need to become a dog of the military (No offense).

ouch about the dog of the military, but if we are such "dogs" why are we not working somewhere like say Dairy Queen? no offense

I'm sorry...aren't marine privates called "dogs"? Where are/were you stationed?

excuse me? but no they are not, are u military?

 yeah right. No my best friend just graduated to private first class last week, he calls me every other day. They refer to each other as dogs.

If you want to go to college start at a community college then transfer to a four year university. If you want to go in the military join the Coast guard.

Go to community college first. It is cheaper than going to a University.
