"Because in every post you talk about how Americans are a bunch of idiots, you dont become a super power with a bunch of idiots "

No I don't....and actually, the only thing a super power needs is an ignorant population who follows what the government says. The US became a super power because the Europeans fought eachother, not because it did anything special. Same goes for the British Empire and the Roman empire.

"Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

The US became a superpower based on its large industrial and economic strengths - it was an emerging superpower even before WW2, the war just caused the US to ramp up both its industrial and political muscle.  Prior to WW2, the US was trying to adopt a policy of isolationism, but after WW 2 it became a major political force in the world.

Lets not forget that the US is very isolated with 2 oceans on each side.

People also fail to realize that the best and greatest minds alot of times from other countries go to the US.  For instance the Indian population when it comes to education is kicking the US's ass, every engineering business, computer company etc etc has high ranking people that were from India's University (IIT?), actually graduates from that place is infact the most sought after.

It was WW1 that made the European nations weaker than their American counter part, WW2 just finished the job...

Imagine if The US and China used every single weapon they had (not nukes) on eachother and engage in a total war. No matter who wins, both nations will be devestated, mainland Europe would not be affected by this war and their cities and factories and economy would still be intact. Europe / EU would therefore be the new superpower, not because it did anything special.

This analogy probably has some holes in it but you see the point.

Oh, and the US wasnt an emerging superpower since the whole world suffered from the Great Depression during the 30s.....the US was one of the nation who got hit the worst.

The US is/was a superpower because of many factors.  Large population base.  Large industrial base.  Large economy.  All of the factors were there.  The US has remained a superpower, long after europe has rebuilt because of those same reasons.

[QUOTE="trey555555"]the US did alot more damage to the familys of hiroshima and nagasaki, and what did they do??? nothing...why??? cause they couldnt....the only reason we are fighting them is because we are bigger...we are bullys the smaller countrysbacon_is_sweet

If American troops invaded instead of using the bomb. Everyone of those "families" would have sacrificed themselves to kill as many troops as they could. In a way, we killed just as many, as if we would have invaded. We just didn't give them the chance to kill alot of our men.

No, see, what the genious is trying to say is that our troops mean nothing. We are to put other countries men over our own.

The US remained a superpower because the world stood still for 50 years after WW2.....No countries really developed under the cold war, Europe was split into two, no nation wanted to make a move since it was afraid of what the consequenses could be. Look what happened after Europe reunited...

You may be missing my point.  There are many industrialzed nations throughout the world that were not war torn or devastated after WW2, yet they are not superpowers.  The reason the US became a superpower was from many reasons.  You need a big economy, a big industrial base, a good scientific community, and most likely a large population to do that.  Japanese admiral Yamamoto said it best when he stated the attacks on Pearl Harbour awoke the sleeping giant.   Those are the main reasons the US became a large power in the world.  They didn't fall into it, they were forced into that role by world events.  It's not some magic formula or some special elitism in the states, they just had the right combination of factors.

Tell him to look up the civilian casualties in Dresden Germany and compare those to nagasaki or hiroshima.  No nukes were used at dresden but the death toll was just as high.  An all out invasion of the Japanese mainland would have caused inummerable casualties on all fronts.  Besides, if you have a quick way to end the worst war the world has ever known, wouldn't you want to chose it?

And the nice thing is that there is still the possibility that it was an inside job, whether you want to admit it or not. There is some evidence to say it was an inside job, but there is still more to say that it was a terrorist attack.

I misunderstod you from the begining, but I see what you mean now, and I agree

Exsistance, and opinons are subjective ideas created by the persepective of many different people.

You're all wrong.

Anyone can have a right answer. Just like anyone can have the wrong answer.

Here is why. All of our facts and information are not tested scientific expirements. They are pieces of material that proclaim to be science. Yet, we've never seen them replecated infront of us. So, why do we believe in them? Because someone say's it 's so.

It's all apart of culture. We know nothing. We just think we do.

Whether conspiracy's or plots to create war, or money, or whatever someone wants.. those ideas don't mean anything. Just like any other idea us silly people create.

I learned about the Sokal thing when I read the really awesome book, _Higher Superstition_. I totally recommend that one, one of my faves of the last decade or so.

To all the people saying America was stupid for dropping atomic bombs on Japan:

You're absolutely right; we shouldn't have done that. After all, just becuse they sucker-punched Pearl Harbor doesn't give us the right to complain about it. If only we could go back in time and surrender to the Japanese like we SHOULD have done, the world would have been a better place. And that's what we should do with this war: surrender and let the guys who killed thousands of people in 9/11 come in and better our country for us. After all, we don't have the right to defend ourselves, as WWII clearly shows. Why oh why didn't we just surrender?!?!!

Hypocrites.

GameBoy966

I find your arguement somehow amusing.

You know that he is being sarcastic?

Actually, so do I. :?
