You might of well just made Jesus illiterate in that conversation between Mr. Soc. By the way, I don't even think Jesus existed, he was a nice guy not a deity. -R3Vo

[QUOTE="123625"]Its as simple as this.

If you were not created with intent or purpose, there is no point!

Of course you can make points and make reasons for yourself, thats all fine and dandy. But in the end you are an accident, you werent made with an ultimate goal in mind, except maybe to reproduce and thats about it.

You didn't answer my question, you just repeated what you already said. I asked WHY there is no purpose when there is not some "intent" behind our existence?

And technically, there was never an "accident." "Accident" implies that there is an existent "intent."

Because you were not created FOR A REASON! If you came as a result of something non intellgent you couldn't of had thought put into you, when being made.

Meaning you had no purpose.

Like when a human creates something, like a story. They put thoughts, ideas and feelings into the characters to give them life.

You can give yourself meaning, i won't dissagree. But you have no meaning overall.

You say there is no God. But what if there is? You're taking a big chance by saying there is no God.

What if when you die you find out there is a God? Now you burn in Hell for all eternity!!!

I'm an atheist for two reasons.

1- I dislike what religions stand for

2- I have no reason to believe there's a god

Facing reality is better than false hope. If you prefer false hope then be my guest.

the probability for either answer isn't 50% each. Through simple logic, you can limit the chance of there being a god.

I believe in God because for me, a creative force is a logical necessity. My logic tells me that an orderly, ingenius system of life cannot come a chaotic explotion with no intelligent energy behind it. Because of this, my God is as scientific and natural as the dirt you study in school. Except He is the foundation, the platform off which the reality we percieve is based. He's everything; He is reality.

1-its not because you claim something to be logical that is is.

2-theres no causality between your beliefs (see #1) and your statements (my God.....) : aka, its because you say that you think your beliefs are logical that it means that your God is rationa.

3- Trying to prove, with rationality, God, is absolutely useless. Why? Because religions are based on faith, thus, they cannot be proved in their beliefs, one doesnt rationally think through religion, he believes. HUGE difference.

I rest my case.

You rest your case, eh? You're obviously arguing against yourself. I never tried to prove my beliefs, and I agree that belief is based on faith. My personal prove is just that, on the personal level. I can't use that to prove God to you because you wouldn't believe me- it's something you must find proof for yourself.

Because atheism claims that nature (unintelligence, nothingness) is the source of order, life, and substance. I simply don't see how two rocks can make fire on their own. It takes someone rubbing them together. This is a fundamental law.

well, I do like arguing with myself. Nothing wrong there. Some people could point at the schizophrenia it hides, but I could say the same about praying. The difference is just that one is a socially accepted schizophrenia, and the other is not

I still don't see your point. How can god be "everything; reality"?

I don't understand what you're saying about rocks making fire on their own, of course it can't. Besides, how did your god get there in the first place? Nature!

Wouldn't matter any way. If atheism were true, my existence is pointless and im gonna lose my mind after death.

exactly why you should spend what time you have doing things you enjoy, and just enjoy living; not live your life just to get into "Heaven

How do you know that i don't enjoy doing those things? I NEVER think its a waste of time. Not everyone thinks like you!

I think that believing in a God makes me enjoy life even more...

A life without God would be sadness.

i'd rather be enlightened and sad than ignorant, and happy.

have any of you religious people ever thought of this; lets say there is a "God (for the purpose of this argument) what if your religion is wrong? what makes your religion superior to the countless other religions out there? what if Oden is the true lord and savior? what if Budha is the all seeing entity?

If there is a god... then why does he let people drive other people to suicide...? I don't think a wealthy successful business man with a wonderful family and everything to live for would jump off a cliff... but someone who has been made fun of their entire life and has no friends is driven to this by those around them... why would a god let them be lead to this...? Why does god let people murder each other...? Why do children who haven't even had a chance to live their life die of cancer? This is why I doubt a god...

Its as simple as this.

If you were not created with intent or purpose, there is no point!

Of course you can make points and make reasons for yourself, thats all fine and dandy. But in the end you are an accident, you werent made with an ultimate goal in mind, except maybe to reproduce and thats about it.

123625

Yes, people make their own purpose in life. Just as you make your faith in God your own purpose. There doesn't have to be a God for someone to have purpose in their life. Some people are content enough just to experience life. Even if God did exist, you don't have to find purpose in Him (since you have free will), you choose to.

Who said we are an accident?
If you're referring to the fact that Atheists follow Science, i.e. Evolution and Abiogenesis and the like, neither of those say that we are an accident. In fact, they would state the very opposite as we were formed from natural processes. Neither chemistry nor biological processes happen 'accidentally'. They are uniform and predictable (within our reasoning).

You assume that no purposeful creation = accident, which doesn't equate. Unintentional, natural processes would then mean no purpose in living? Perhaps our purpose is just to follow the laws of nature and within following these laws (to live, reproduce and die), we can make our own meaning. What's to stop us?

I never said abiogenesis or Evolution were an accident. God could of guided them. You miss my main point, which has nothing to do with creation or abiogenisis, big bang and etc.

if we were not designed for a specific meaning, goal or purpose.

We can have no meaning, because we werent designed to do anything. We came as a result of Nothing basically. Or something with no with no intent given to us.

If such thing were true, we can only make our own meaning and not have an overall meaning.

Actually whether or not there is a god, the main purpose of humans and all living things for that matter, is to live long enough and to reproduce, passing on your genes to the next generation.

As for the purpose I think you're speaking of, it's up to each individual to discover his or her own purpose(s). Everyone has their own aspirations and goals in life, inspired through various interests and influences (religious and non-religious). I am a 3d artist and I hope to get into the game industry. That's my career goal and my purpose. Certainly no god or religious or after life has any influence on that.

Sin is man made. Period. Religion is man made. Period.

Did you guys hear that the catholic religion just added a new sin in their books to adjust to 'the modern world'? Something related to the economy and politics. This whole concept in absurd. If there is a God, there can only be one God. That's a big IF. Religion is just something of a security to man ' there is hope, there is a higher order taking care of us after we die, bla bla bla.' . If we're strong we don't need a religion to disillusion ourselves.

Think of how believes are brought to this world and brainwashing some of us, like how 'believes' are taught in the middle east and brainwashing them poor suicide bombers. These believes are just introduced to the world by some guy. We can choose to worship to believe or THINK about it.

HAHA a perfectly legitimate one? Hahahaha... Sorry, you don't get to be the judge of that.

Thats not legitimate becuase you don't understand the first thing about natural selection and the theory that evolutionists and big-bang theorists follow. It involves no chance whatsoever. By the fact that time does not ever stop, it is 'fated' for lack of a better word.

It has to happen.

As I've always said. I avoid fights, I hesitate to crush bugs, and I try to mediate in all situations. But if God would send me to Hell just because I feel my time is better spent doing things supported by fact and proof, then I fail to see how Satan could be any worse than God.Tylendal

wouldnt it be funny if hell was in fact a better place than heaven? and Satan was a really cool guy while God was a powerhungry a-hole?

Think of is this way, If you don't believe in god you may be right or you may be wrong and go to hell, If you're chrisitian you believe someone is there with you, he comforts you. and you live with him for enternity after death, and if we are wrong ( impossible) we just die and thats it. The risk of being a athesist and wrong is far greater then being a christian and wrong

At least according to christianity.

In Mathew it says Jesus was tempted by the devil. How could that be if he were in hell? Simple, hes not in hell.

You say there is no God. But what if there is? You're taking a big chance by saying there is no God.

What if when you die you find out there is a God? Now you burn in Hell for all eternity!!!

SaintTheKing

your taking an equally large chance by believing in just 1, when there are many to choose from

God: "You didn't belive in me so ya, go to hell."

So I think I'd go to hell then, what more could I do. Besides, I wouldn't be the only one, my friends and people I love would be there. I'd better go to hell with my family and friends than hang out alone in the heaven with all those holy people going: "Wohoo, I win!"

What kind of logic is that?

You can say the same thing about God and heaven.

Well then, hell might not even be that bad of a place.
