SSo yea, reaching into my cupboard, i got a glass, accidentally slipped from my hand, and yet again accidentally grabbed for it cutting a deep and nasty sliver right below the first opposable joint on my left hand's ring finger. It bled a lot, but wasn't gushing and stopped after a while so i didn' hit a vein of any sort. The thing is, my family doesn't have any insurance and we're basically too poor to afford anystitches at the moment, could it just heal on its own through bandages and the such?

Depends how deep the wound is. Either way, keep putting pressure on it.

lemon juice and salt.Old chef's trick.

Mix some up, and dump it on the cut. It stings like something awful, but it will stop the bleeding...it chemically cauterizes the would

if its anything like the glass-cuts I get, its deep and just bleeds and bleeds lol.

*oh sorry did not read your entire post lol.

Havent you ever been cut before? Just keep a bandaid, maybe some neosporin (a tube of gel that helps wounds heal), on it and let it heal.

Well I'm no expert but if the bleeding stopped, I guess the wound started healing, no?

so your mom think that having internet is better than having at least a minimum quantity of money for medical emergencies? yeah that makes perfect sense, the internet will obviously seal your wounds when you start reading on a forum. seriously, we all know its a joke thread, you can stop pretending now

Dude, any visit to a hospital or dentist or whatever medical profession costs absurd amounts of money if you don't have insurance. I don't know if you ever look at the amounts that are being charged to your insurance whenever you go to, e.g. a dentist, but it's ridiculously expensive. I wouldn't be surprised if stitches run you about $200. A poor family might be able to afford it if they drained their bank account, but why would you do that if the injury isn't critical? Stop being such an **** lightleggy.

Depends on the state. Some states have laws that let doctors open "mini clinics" that can do basic things like stitches or treating a feverfor a few bucks. But if the state you live in doesn't let doctors work that way, you pretty much need insurance.

It's a possibility, yes. Internet is not as expensive as health insurance, and you can save up for a PS3/PC over time.

you know what dude, you must not know what it's like to rely on yourself for things. I came here asking for an opinion, despite being that i'm going to try and heal it myself anways just like id do for every injury i've had since forever rather than waste hundreds of dollars for a simple visit to place that would give me some bullcrap story about some strange treatment I don't need. Same for my pc. I learned and built it on my own which considerably reduced the amount if i just bought it premade, even then it still took me over a year to save up a very small portion of any payment i got for working in all sorts of places. Ps3 was just something from pre-poorness. If you learned to patient and ethical towards anything, even if you're poor, you can get everything you want and need, which for me, aren't very much.

correct me if im wrong, but isn't building the PC "by yourself" a lot more expensive that buying a premade? cuz last time I checked, there was a great premade PC that costed 800 dollars, I thought the same as you and I tried building it by myself, and it resulted that if I would build it by myself instead of buying the premade one, the pc with the same components, costed 1250 dollars.

Mine cost me $1200 for the entire package including monitor, keyboard, and mouse. In a package deal from many of the prebuilding places at the time averaged to about $2000

Do you know how much health insurance for a family can cost? Per month? I got something in the mail for health insurance. For family, it wanted over $800 a month and for single, it wanted over $400 a month ($485 to be exact. That's almost $500 a month for just myself). Decent internet can cost you around at least $30 a month. On top of that, medical bills can be very hefty. If he doesn't need stitches, he doesn't need stitches. The wound stopped bleeding (how deep is it btw?). He seems fine just by typing so all he really needs to do is keep an eye on it while bandaging it up. Now, if it continued to bleed and it wasn't stopping, then yes, he would need stitches.

How (really) to GameSpot:

1.) Something bad happens to you.

2.) Freak out for a while. Scream and/or cry.

3.) Get calmed down and get a snack.

4.) Post about it on GameSpot.

5.) Wait for someone to say "Pics or it didn't happen."

6.) Argue with that person.

7.) Get moderarted for "Trolling."

8.) Go to "Ask the Mods" and ask why you were moderated.

9.) Moderator answers your question, but you're still pissed.

10.) Post about it on your blog.

Sorry i forgot to explain my wound in exact detail> The cut goes from halfway to the left side of my finger to the center of the frontside of my finger (you know the grabbing side), and it's positioned right beneath that bottom opposable joint on my ring finger. It's pretty deep, when i looked at it, my skin was completely breached and I could see some fatty tissue and some sort of microscopic tendon, but at the same time, I noticed that bleeding clotted up real fast and I didn't hit any veins so however deep that sounds. I plan to first try and heal the surface of it using a simple bandage, and by that time I think I might use a butterfly bandage to see If I could pull the skin together and heal that too. Some Doctor would probably tell me "Oh you need som $150 stitches, and this visit will also cost you $200", pfft yea right.

Oh and i'm typing qith one hand. you might notice spelling and grammar mistakes.

ok ok im sorry for saying you didnt had economic problems and that you didnt got hurt...now I dont know if you did got hurt or not, but all I can tell you is that if it actually happened and you are not planning to get treatment/stitches, then desinfect the wound with medical alcohol, even if it stopped bleading, its still an open wound and it can get infected

yeah but you dont get stitched to stop the bleeding...as a matter of fact, the first thing you need to do is STOP the bleeding before you can stitch, because stitching wont magically fix the vein

That's not what I meant. Usually if the bleeding cannot be stopped before going to the hospital, then the wound is really deep (not talking about like a serious, you're going to die if you don't go to the hospital wound. I'm just talking about like an every day cut from a sharp object [though, that probably wouldn't be an every day thing, but I hope you get what I mean...]) and you need to get stitches/staples for it (I've been attacked by a dog twice. I had to get stitches on my face and staples along my scalp).

Wait. To make sure that it is clear, you are talking about just one finger, right? From the way you make it sound, you're describing more than one finger. And that sounds really deep. It's not bleeding, though. Personally, I'd have a doctor get a look at it, but then again, I don't know how it looks, so I cannot say.

Yea there's not a terribly lot you can do for me without seeing it, I wish I had a camera, but then again, I'm just going to waait a while before I see I doctor because I was able to maintain it so that there wasn't any more bleeding and I got the pain to merely "sting" the area where I was cut, almost like how a regular paper cut feels. If I don't see any result whatsoever, then I msy try and see a doctor somehow without getting a lawsuit for not being able to pay a bill. Also, btw, it's just one finger, my ring finger on my left hand.

If you really don't want to go to the hospital, then sew it up with a needle and thread if its that deep.
I don't know if doing that would make it worse, which it might, and I'm no doctor.

Hahaha this is probably THE best post I've read all year

i sliced my finger open a few years ago while camping with a wood saw... wasn't exactly close to civilization to get it stitched.. cleaned it with alcohol pads, covered it with bacitracin and bandaged it shut and kept it covered and clean.. it closed and healed eventually but with a nice little scar ... make sure you keep it clean and held shut and it should heal on it's own.

Well, I'm glad you got that crap out. Crap hasn't gotten stuck in my finger yet, so I don't know what I'd do in a situation like that...:P

Wow, that post was reassuring, thanks a lot. Also, lol @ the fecal matter comments.

If you can make it stop bleeding by putting pressure on it then it is fine. put a band-aid on it and it will be fine in a few days.

Clean it, and apply superglue. No doctor, no bill, no home stiching. Problem solved

How much do stiches cost in America?

htekemerald

Money for getting stiches isn't a lot but going to the hospital getting looked at and then all the fees. It does add up
