So i just got hired and I am just working part-time for like 6 months until I get the job I want. Is Wal-Mart that bad of a place to work for? Also I am a cashier.

Ugh, retail is not fun.duxupNeither is food service. :\To be honest most temporary jobs are crappy. You just have to find one that is less crappy than the rest. :)
If you need cash, and working isn't going to hurt your studies, then go for it. Just expect to hate humanity after a week or two.
i was in a receiver (unloaded trucks)/stocking shelves type position many years ago at Wal-mart and i didnt find it to be bad at all, but im not one to complain, i'd rather look for the good in things.
So in my experiences it was a good place to make a few bucks for my next job.
Its been many years since then and i now work on Gas Turbine engines (jet engines), i balance the rotors for 3 different engine product lines. The engines i work on are for industrial purposes, a variant of the CF-18 engine, also a variant of the T56 (Herc) engine and a brand new engine fitted onto the US navy LCAC hovercrafts and Wally yachts.
Be patient ;)
NO
But if you need the cash, go make your paper! Times is hard. . .
I don't know how old you are, but don't be one of those people that get stuck into it. I know people that get into temporary part-time jobs - for years. Despite what they say about the economy there are good jobs out there, if you use your resources like "careeronestop" and look hard enough.
Im also starting at $8.25. I think that's pretty good considering the fact that I never had any retail job or experience.
Because one of my friends work there and he could get me the job right on the spot so I said why not.I've heard it's terrible.
By the way, why didn't you ask before you submitted your job app? o_o;;

[QUOTE="Shad0ki11"]Because one of my friends work there and he could get me the job right on the spot so I said why not. Dude take what you can get. Work there, get a steady paycheck, and keep applying until you find a better job, put in your two weeks, and go to new/better job.I've heard it's terrible.
By the way, why didn't you ask before you submitted your job app? o_o;;

Should be like any other part time job, you'll make friends, hate the customers, love the money, and dislike the work. You'll do fine.Im_single
You have done an excellent summarization of service industry work. :D I spent years working in restaurants and coffee shops...I HATE that kind of work, but you do make some friends along the way. It's not so bad...plus, you end up with plenty of humorous stories dealing with the public.
The most fun job I ever had was in retail, but it was at a family(not my family) owned furniture store. You'll eventually realize that most jobs suck. guynamedbilly
Yeah, I had a blast working at a KFC when I was 15. Me and my friends would cook all the food that was projected to be sold that night when we started our shift, then just head out the back door or into the office and hang out. We'd come in whenever there was an order, so we could bag the food...but other than that we just relaxed and visited.
And yes, there are things about most jobs that suck. It's just something you have to do, unless you have inherited a fortune.
I worked at an amusement park. It was far from fun, but it's a job(worked open to close, with only 1 half hour break); they sure gave me more than enough hours to work (I worked 55 hours a week, and I could have worked even more). At least I got to interact with some interesting... people.LuminouslightCool I worked at a Six Flags in a retail shop. It wasn't bad. The thing about a theme park, there's always lots of employees you can talk to so you tend to make friends easily
I'm sure it'll blow..but then you get discounts don't you?

No, Walmart gives no incentives whatsoever to their employees.
Also, they really pressure you to leave if you're part of a union. I remember there was some scandal a while back about a manager vandalizing the home of a unionized cashier at Walmart, jusr for being in a union and demanding not to be locked in the store at night (that's what they do for nightshift workers, at least in the South).
I've heard nothing but bad things about working at Wal*Mart...I worked in retail ages ago and my employers used to tell us stories of how the employees at Wal*Mart were treated...but maybe it will be different for you.
Oh, and working in fast food is not really that bad. I've been there and done it...and to be honest, I rather enjoyed it most of the time. The customers weren't as bad as the ones I would get in the retail job I had later on...but again, I may just have been lucky with my managers and fellow employees being fun to work around and getting customers the majority of the time that were nice and not a problem.
I work at taco for now :( but ima become an animal docter eventually. It`s not the bad, the people i work with is my age, hell im older then one of the managers, we get 5 dollar free meal a day and it`s not that bad, unless you work line.
