After contemplating hard on it I realised that it's not much different than piracy, you are using something for free and dont have any right to block the ads which keep the internet running. If the use of adblock in browsers becomes too much then this could hurt the future of the internet.

And before you say something yes I do watch youtube videos and donot claim to follow copyright rules all the time but the thing is that this particular thing is easily avoidable and does not cost me anything, just a little annoyance which I should bear for using a site for free.

I am not gonna tell all adblock users that you are doing something wrong because these are very subjective issues and even I was using it for years until recently so who am I to say anyone anything. But I will say one thing and that is that you should think about it atleast.:)

I may do, but not because it's immoral. It just doesn't work. Probably because i'm doing it wrong. I installed it... left it at that, and there are still ads all over the place. :(

No. I didn't click on the ads in the first place. All adblock is doing is blocking the ads from the consumer's view. It's not like it's going into the website's server and deleting the ad all together. As far as the website is concerned, you're still viewing the ad.

You have to add a subscription.

The option pops up once you install it.

@TC: I dont find it comparable to piracy.

Although it kinda is since just as you cant prove that revenue is lost from piracy, you also cant prove that I would be buying any of the products advertised if I didnt use addblock.

It's not immoral as I never agreed to view the ads in the first case and am under no legal/contractual or moral obligation to view them. If I see another internet ad in my life I will vomit.

Like Teenaged said, you need a subscription (it's free) to an ad filter list. You can access through the Adblock menu. Don't give up man. :{

Used to use it because some ads are too intrusive, like flashing ones, ones that play videos, pop up ones and noisy ones. Now I just use NoScript that blocks all scripts except the ones I designate as safe. Makes it a lot easier and works every time. Also good for malaware protection as malicious scripts are stopped too. In this way, I am avoiding annoying adverts, but more conservative ones are let through and are fine by me.

I love my noscript. It has also saved me a couple of times from 'older' sites.

I use adblock and no, I don't have a 'right' to block it, but they don't have a 'right' to force it on to me either. I never click them anyway, so they are not generating any revenue from me, so there isn't a difference.

Never been interested in ad blockers. I enjoy these sites FOR FREE! The least I can do is not block their only source of revenue.

Have fun with your viruses OP. Ad blocking is about more than just getting rid of annoying ads, it also blocks "ads" that are really just excuses to load malware onto your PC.

I used it on my old computer, it was basically a necessity, the thing was a dinosaur and all the flash ads did was make it chug even slower, now my laptop is very speedy, I have no need for it anymore.

I don't even care about commerical products so I don't see how it will hurt the internet market.

The only thing that has kept it going are dumb people who use IE and buy things off ads.
