Problems:
1. Girly, nasal-only voices
2. Guitars are only power chords. No more awesome solos.
3. Emos
4. Most bands revolve solely around the color black
5. No awesome lyrics anymore
6. Too much computer/synthesizer use. Guitar, bass, drums, maybe piano. That's all you need.
7. Too much depression. Sing about something positive, like, say, LOVE. The best bands ever wrote about love, not depression.
I'm sure there's more I forgot about.
The only one you had right was "Major label's unwillingness to sign anyone who might not make boatloads of money."Problems:

There's nothing wrong with rock. It would have died out if everyone continued to make the same music as the 60's and 70's. Alternative FTW.LJS9502_basic
Well thats only because you like today's rock.

And the reverse is true of your post. Your point?
There is still great rock bands out there you just got to look and ask around. :)

Wow, this must be the most ignorant post in the history of OT.
And by the way, bands have been imitating each other for a looooooon time.

Agreed. Music is an ever changing, ever evolving entity. So what if your tastes are for the stuff of the 80's. A lot of bands were around in the 80's.
People need to start finding their own music, rather than whatever is shoved down their throats on the radio
eh Fall Out Boys talent??? yeah... right.. anyways a band in the UK, muse, is original listen to supermassive blackhole or map of the problematique and say that sounds like another songsquitsquat

I agree man...it just seems the mainstream bands of today stink. Everytime I turn on the radio to a new rock station it's a whiney nasal-ly sounding complainer, crying about how much life sucks.
I literally have to change the station to AM radio and listen to NPR to cheer up :P

Yeah, well he's right. Rock wouldn't even be around if it was the same as the 60's and 70's. People would've been bored with it after 30 or 40 years  It's the same for Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance and all those other garbage bands. They'll all be gone soon enough.
Good Music = Opinion.
Just cause you like it more, doesent make it better....
Def_Jef88
True...but not all opinions are equal. My opinion could be that this song:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2120659111755287021
is the single best song in history. But honestly...how reliable would my opinon be? Sure...its my opinion and you can't prove me wrong...but anybody with any sort of taste would know my opinion was trash.
Its not that modern music is bad, its just that its too same-y. Its boring.
The Killers are the one band breaking away from the modern by rocking a little' 80's revival.
I like them a lot, their actually interesting, and great song writers.
I'm still iffy on modern stuff, only a few bands I like.
The pop syndrome. A band releases a great album, but an album or two later they get poppish solidscryerJust like the beatles.
Personally I think Jack White is the savior of rock these days....everything he creates has that rough almost ac/dc like feel to it. Dude keeps it simple and its friggin brilliant.MarineJcksn
I haven't heard any of his recent stuff, but I hope he fired his old drummer. Talk about lack of talent.

The Killers don't sound anything like 80's rock. They sound like a bad combination of U2, Jet, and Coldplay.
What's wrong is that record labels take in bands for image rather then talent. Excellent examples are KISS, Motley Crue, every single freaking hair and glam metal band etc.EboyLOLthats just it.
all these popular bands are popular because they're 4 or 5 guys who are always pissed off and wearing black

Wrong. The Killers are channeling 80's rock. What 80's bands are you familiar with?
