[QUOTE="Funky_Llama"][QUOTE="battousai188"]Your comment is so Christian. >_>30 years ago gay meant happy/glad.. 10 years ago it was to refer to a homosexual, and still presently does, but the term gay is dominantly an expression of something that is lame/stupid/inadequet. So I don't really think it should be viewed as offensive because most people can distinguish when its being used to say how dumb something is or if they are refering to someone as being homosexual.. And the term gay for calling someone homosexual isn't even that offensive its a more polite way of putting their sexual preference out there than saying any number of highly explicit terms.
battousai188
You can distinguish, right? :o
how is that a christian response.. Im not even religious, and second yes about 9 out of 10 times I hear the term gay used I know the point someone is trying to get across. I have seen and used the word gay to lable someones sexual preference but not out of hate or negativity just to state hey this person is into dudes / girls.. not a big deal.
Oh, well, surely you can see that it's the use of the word 'Christian' to mean 'bad'. Which is apparently fine. >___>[QUOTE="battousai188"][QUOTE="Funky_Llama"]Your comment is so Christian. >_>You can distinguish, right? :o

Thanks, you too. :)[QUOTE="AncientNecro"]technically the gays stole the word from its original meaning of "happy" so i think it should go back even further than an identification of homosexualityxaosI am glad our insidious plot of stealing a word was successful.
And the rainbow! *pouts*
I use it in the wrong way and I'm bisexual myselfblack_tempest
That's kind of interesting. Some of my gay friends use it that way, as well. "Oh my gawd, that is sooo gay!"...I think it's pretty funny, myself.
oh well, youll get over it.
its fine how it is i reckon!
and ll keep using no matter what people say on the internet
Being that way is wrong, so it is an offense for me. So yeah, I use it a lot :PThiago26792
It may be wrong, but they can't help it. Physical attraction ain't something one can control.

Some people actually think that it can be controlled. But let's leave it like that...[QUOTE="DarkPrinceXC"][QUOTE="3eyedrazorback"]It happens with some people. Ignorance gets the best of them. They just haven't expanded their vocabulary to the point of saying a different word, so they fall back to that word, because they think of it as a derogatory word. I, for one, don't use it. If I get frustrated, I don't ever spout that out. Kinda childish.3eyedrazorbackI love how anyone who doesn't use the word incorrectly is automatically a more intelligent, overall better person than someone who is using it incorrectly. I'm not saying I'm more intelligent. But, I don't like the Blackhawks, so that must account for something  You are a cruel, cruel person. But anyways, I'm not just singling you out. It seems pretty much everyone who shares the same view as you do about things like this have some sort of "God-complex" on the internet. It's pretty weird, but it is amusing to watch on these forums.
no because gay can mean happy and people should just say homomayforcebeyouI don't really like that one, because it's short for homosapian(sp?). But whatever, I don't care what words people use. It's all personal preference.
Yes, I know I copied the title form the other topic. Anyways, I've been hearing people use the word gay as something offensive. For example: go into youtube and every single video has comments like "This video sucks, it is so gay A video itself can't be homosexual and I'm pretty sure they aren't using the other meaning of gay (happy). People in my school generally use the word gay when something is extremely feminine or crappy. But not every single homosexual is feminine. My little pocket dictionary from my bookshelf says that the word gay can be used as a Adjective and a noun. When it's a noun it means that a person practices homosexuality. When the word is used as an adjective it generally means is bright and pleasant. Now the question is, Why is the word gay used as something offensive? Why can't it be used as a title here at Gamespot?MrEnvelope
Youtube comments generally aren't known for being intellectual, but yeah, that use of the word doesn't seem to be exclusive to them. To say gay when one means they don't like something is saying they don't like either homosexuality or happiness, whether they intend to or not. I'm straight but I find it absurd when people use gay to mean they don't like it yet claim they have nothing against homosexuality; I think the two are just plain incompatible. I think it'd be better to be fully anti-gay than to have such inconsistency.
Though for what it's worth, the idea of calling something feminine gay sounds a bit more logical; there is scientific reason to believe that homosexual behaviour resembles that of the opposite sex, and since 3% of males and only 2% of females are homosexuals, this would suggest that the majority of homosexals are male, and therefore the overall net influence of homosexuality would be towards more feminine behaviour. That said, even then it's still not much more logical, since equating homosexuality with femininity is not only saying that homosexual men are feminine, but that feminine men are homosexual; personally, I think the latter assumption is even worse, (since it's assuming the converse) but even with both assumptions, the problem is that what our society arbitrarily labels "feminine" or "masculine" isn't necessarily in line with the more scientifically valid gender differences.
[QUOTE="musikizmagik"]Right, just like if I were to describe something unappealing/distasteful as being "so black" or "so Christian", for example, it would totally not be a big deal or in any way offensive to any reasonable person.I use it to mean something I find to be unappealing or lacking in substance. It's only slang, not really a big deal.
xaos
Technically, "black" IS used to refer to things/people that are unappealing. Just watch Lord of the Rings for confirmation.
Funny, isn't it '[QUOTE="DrSponge"][QUOTE="Theokhoth"]I honestly think that most of the people offended by the derogatory use of the word gay are straight as a pole.Theokhoth
Funny, sad, take your pick.
Why would it be either?Whooh...Man, I'm glad that's cleared up.
Does that say Dennis Kucinich in the background?[QUOTE="StrawberryHill"]Does that say Dennis Kucinich in the background?Whooh...Man, I'm glad that's cleared up.
