[QUOTE="biggest_loser"][QUOTE="SnappyService"] Let the right one was more of a love story with vampire themes. And Psycho is a psychological thriller, A big a building block for the slasher genre but really I wouldn't consider it one. Both great movies though.SnappyService
Are we really going to split those hairs? It even says on the IMDB that these are both in the horror genre.

Yeah, but I think the TC is looking for films for "frights" or shocks but he should watch them for they are amazing....

The Toxic Avenger. A true cult classic.

The Blair Witch Project. Amazingly smart how the directors made it (it was them throwing rocks at the tent).

There's always Un Chien Andalou for some old 1929 horror...

it's actually not bad. It had the first explicit violence seen in the mainstream cinema.

The part that I love is how none of it is acting. It's all real reactions, which I think makes it scarier.

Certainly an odd film, I hated the soundtrack that was playing when I watched it try to make more surreal but it took away from it. But that has nothing to do with the film itself. :P The eye cutting scene was done very well especially for 1929 and Its really have imprinted in my mind.

3 Extremes is pretty good. Splinter. A really clever monster movie that I've seen recently. An American Werewolf in London. One of my favorites and actually quite funny at times. Drag Me to Hell. I don't know if it's out on DVD yet though. : / Rosemary's Baby.

I'm talking about the originals, stay away from crappy Hollywood remakes.

Check out the reviews at Arrow in the Head. I usually agree with them and they are funny.

How could I forget all those awesome Cronenberg movies?! Videodrome is one of the most effed up movies I've ever seen, as is The Fly (the remake), Dead Ringers, or most unsettling of all, Crash (the 1994 movie, not the other one). Crash is about people who get sexually aroused by car accidents and violence. There is a particularly disturbing scene where a man has sex with a woman, but not in any sexual cavity; instead, it's in one of her wounds (the movie's rated NC-17 for a reson, btw).

Cronenberg also made A History of Violence and Eastern Promises; he kind of stopped making horror movies ten years ago.

Session 9 was either a love-it-or-hate-it movie, and you could say I was one of the people who hated it :P

I'm serious, there was absolutely no closure and you never know what the hell happened after an insanely boring hour and a half. It had such promise in the beginning, but it was marred by substandard acting and poor character development, in my opinion.

Wouldn't say it was that scary as much as being the best zombie movie ever created :D

I would say that's one of the dumbest movies ever created, personally.

Of course, I've never seen a zombie movie I actually liked, so I guess it could still be the best of a genre full of nothing but lame movies.

If you want a crap movie with someone jumping out of a dark corner and a static look appearing on the screen and a loud screeching violin playing at random moments, you can pick up some of the movies mentioned already. If you want a 'good' horror movie, I recommend Jacob's Ladder.

Yep, that's the one. I'm PRETTY sure I got it there, but it wouldn't hurt to call just in case...

Thanks.

You won't be disappointed. Three Extremes is a great collection. I'm not sure if I would categorize the films as horror, at least in the western sense of the genre. Some of the images and concepts, however, are pretty disturbing. Watch "Dumplings" and try to eat Chinese pot stickers again.

Jacob's Ladder (One of the best I've ever seen)

Martyrs (Most brutal movie I have ever seen)

A Tale of Two Sisters (One of the best twists I've ever seen in a movie)

Splinter (Great monster movie)

I could name more, but those should do for now.
