Thats the truth whether you wanna accept it or not.

He may have been really good in Dark Knight, but people are going overboard, and thats only because everything is being amplified just because of what happened. If he was still alive people would be saying, yeah he was good. Now people are claiming its one of the best performances ever...

I guess thats just the way it is for all entertainers though, from music to acting. Too bad people dont get all the attention while they are still alive, they'd probably like it a lot more.

Yeah I think it is a bit obvious and all and I think everyone who has heard about it probably worked it out as well.

Maybe, but that still doesn't change the fact he was one of the best actors around. I'll be seeing Batman due to the all-star cast though with many amazing actors:

Bale (see American Psycho), Oldman (see Léon), Freeman ('nuff said) and Caine (same as Freeman). It won't take much for Ledger to beat Nicholson's performance in the old Batman film, though.

I am sure that many ppl are getting into the hype that just because ledger is dead that that makes him a fantastic actor, but the truth is, his portrayal of the Joker in The Dark Knight was brilliant and I would offer that it was better than Nicholson's portrayal. I don't really care who the actor is, but if they do an amazing performance than they deserve what ever hype they recieve, and Ledger's performance deserves the hype he is getting... for this role.

I believe Ledger would still get a lot of recognition for his performance as The Joker. But obviously his death contributes to why he's being emphasized. Is that a bad thing? Hell no.

I don't know whether you're being serious or punny there. :P Could you elaborate more? I think Nicholson is a better actor, however, his performances in The Shining and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest are immense.

he's being serious, he isn't talking about the different roles that nicholson or ledger have portrayed, he is talking about the fact that the Jokers portrayed are two very different ones from different comic book backgrounds. Nicholson's Joker is much more the comic book one who is a crazy criminal type whereas ledger's Joker is from the more "graphic novels" which is one who is psychotic and criminally INSANE. Though they are the same characters in that they are the Joker, how the characters were written and influenced are very different. Ledger and Nicholson's Jokers can't be compared to Adam West era's Joker, while still Batman's nemesis, they are different characters.

Yeah, you're probably right, but I still think he out did every other actor in Batman. There were a couple of parts where his performance was a little over the top, but he certainly made the role of the Joker pretty evil.

To say the reaction to Dark Night and Heath's performance is undeserved is ridiculous. It was the single best performance of a villain in any movie I've ever seen, regardless of whether Heath died or not. Heath really did steal the show, and whenever he was off screen I found myself wanting him on screen again. He played it with the perfect dark, creepiness while still being humorous.

Personally, I believe people are watching this more because it's a chance to see Ledger's final acting position. I don't think they're calling the greatest movie ever because he died! I think they're saying it was a really good movie to pay their respects to a good actor in his final movie. Anyone agree?

In the case of "making things a big deal", imagine his performance as what it was, and nobody cared :|. I'd imagine any celebirty dying would be made a big deal of. The TC makes it sound as though there was a worldwide televised broadcast of the movie and his burial.

People are making such a big deal out of it becasue he's dead.

But the quality of his performance has been acurately praised.

I thought the same thing until I saw the movie. I dislike most of Heath Ledger's other movies and I have high expectations for playing the Joker and the Heath Ledger managed to make the Joker all the more frightening for me again.

Apparently you never saw Brokeback Mountain. Heath Ledger was an actor just beginning to come into his own. Brokeback was a fantastic piece of work by the man, and the Dark Knight is a masterpiece because of how he played Joker.

People would care even more if he wasn't dead, because he would have become one of the brightest young actors in Hollywood.

The performance he gave as Heath Ledger was amazing. His death didn't sadden me until I watched the movie realizing what a great actor he is.

P.S. I think the fact he was dead added a creep factor to his role.

No way. I was pumped for this movie the day they announced it. And when I heard Heath was playing the joker I was skeptical (along with many many others) but I had faith in Nolan, after all, he did bring us the spectacular Memento and Batman Begins. Then when they showed how the joker would look for the first time, I was actually pumped. I LOVED where they were going with the character, and I could already tell Heath was already changing the character around for the better. He made the Joker his own.

I still remember when I saw the first Dark Knight trailer that actually had the joker in it. I was blown away. The guy had nailed the role, and that was just from a few lines in a trailer. Last night I saw the movie (twice) and my god, he did something I never thought possible. He took a comic book character, someone who is so inhumanly twisted and sick and somehow managed to pull it off. I was amazed. It showed just how great of an actor Heath was.

So no, I think you're wrong. I knew Heath would do an amazing job, and his death didn't change my mind in any way. The only thing his death did was made me anticipate it more simply because I was desparate to see his final performance (which oddly is his second to last performance) because I knew it'd be amazing

that was the single best acting job i have seen in quite a few years. it's not because he's dead. i didn't even know he was dead until some people were talking about it after i saw the movie. seriously, if heath ledger was not in that movie, it would have been so boring.

EXACTLY, every single time the Joker is on the screen it's amazing. This comparison has been made before but it really reminds of how it was when I watched 'Silence of the Lambs'. So many scenes with the Joker in that movie I loved.

Technically, you're absolutely right. It adds to the hype surrounding the movie, as shallow as that sounds. If he hadn't died, it would probably be the biggest movie of the year. Because of the circumstances, though, it will be one of the biggest movies of all time (see the first day's gross in America alone). I don't think the praise for his acting is exaggerrated, though. He was already extremely highly regarded as an actor, ever since Brokeback Mtn. I saw the extended IMAX trailer for The Dark Knight months before he died, and the brief part he played in that made me more excited for the movie than I've been since the Phantom Menace. Also, the movie deserves the attention it's getting for other reasons. It's just a damn good movie, so it's a good thing if people go to see it expecting something more than a goofy comic book flick.

I would say that it was one of the best I've seen in recent years, but yes, I think that it got more hype because Ledger died. Same reason everyone thinks that Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison are gods. They just died young and could have been so much more. So even though their stuff or performances may have been much better later in life, we only have what they gave us, thus, the overamplified nature of the media and popular opinion.
