Excuse me, did you actually watch the video? Many of the signs shown required foriegners to be accompanied by a Japanese friend. Kinda like not being able to get into some high-cl@ss club unless you know someone inside. Hmm..

similarly stupid, but at least the kind of practice you're comparing this exclusion to is not blatantly racist.

It may seem racist, but they're protecting their social stability and their culture. They don't want people going over there gawking at everything with no understanding or appreciation for why Japanese people do things the way they do. Furthermore, one sign shown in that video offers an excellant reason for this behavior. A sign clearly explains that the staff don't understand english. Another example of American hypocrisy. We expect visitors and immigrants to our country to learn english. But so many tourists visit Japan every year with no desire to learn how to speak and read Japanese. Why should their everyday citizens and workers be mandated to learn a second language just to appease a bunch of ignorant tourists?

Okay, well if you move to Japan, I imagine you would make some japanese friends. So what's the problem?

You wouldnt be allowed to go to bars, clubs, cafe's etc bc they are japanese only. look at my post vid

No, it's nothing like that. A "high-****club" does not discriminate based on race or nationality.

I suggest you read this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic_issues_in_Japan

"In 2005, a United Nationsspecial rapporteur on racism and xenophobia expressed concerns about "deep and profound"racism in Japanand insufficient government recognition of the problem."

From the same article, first paragraph -

Sankei Shimbun, a Japanese national newspaper, while expressing a support for combating discrimination, expressed doubt on the impartiality of the report, pointing out that Doudou Diène never visited Japan before and his short tour was arranged by a Japanese NGO, IMADR (International Movement Against All Forms of Discrimination). The chairman of the organisation is Professor Kinhide Mushakoji (武者小路公秀), who is a board member (and the ex director of the board) of the International Institute of the Juche Idea (主体思想国際研究所), an organisation whose stated purpose is to propagate the official ideology of North Korea.[4]
