[QUOTE="espoac"]I really don't understand how a parent could hit their child when their are much better forms of discipline. Spanking, no matter how harmless people think it is, makes a child develop feeling of resentment towards the parent. cfamgcn
You are so wrong there. My mom disciplined my sister and me that way, and we totally love her. I know plenty of people who feel the same way, too. ~de arimasu :P If I ever have kids, I'll make sure to properly discipline them. Of course, abusing of it is another matter which shouldn't ever happen, and they will know the reason of my actions. ~de arimasu

Sorry but this really isn't up for debate. http://www.aap.org/publiced/BR_Discipline.htm Spanking is irresponsible, lazy parenting. Plain and simple.

It is a simple way of conditioning someone.

Using fear and pain as the variable. But, it is usually too much and like other said.. a thin line between discipline and child abuse.

My parents spanked me as a child. I have no negative side effects. I have a great relationship with my parents and I love them very much.

[QUOTE="Boba_Fett_3710"]I plan on physically disciplining my kids as I believe it is the right thing to do. Don't try to change my mind about this one. Anybody can say it's wrong but if it is, please feel free to offer a LOGICAL alternative to dealing with an undeveloped child mind with no reasoning skills._______1_______
Hi again. :) You already planning on physically disciplining your children before they are even born is extremely disturbing. It's as if you don't even want to think about alternatives. I wonder how much of a temper problem you have. How about your wife? Will you smack her around if she doesn't have dinner ready on time? I sense some control issues within your words.

Look, how about you worry about your own life. I can pretty much raise my fictional children any way I desire, I don't care how disturbing you find it. Temper has nothing to do with it and as for my fictional wife, you leave her out of it.

I don't like it when parents hit their kids especially in public where I can see the little redneck brats crying.

Fear isn't respect, but i'm sure that's already been said. I'm guessing people are debating it since there are 6 pages and this is OT.

Nope it isn't the same, fear is one way to make people respect or obey you. Or just to get you to do something they want.

i don't see the point of physically abusing a child when they are so much more damaged by phsychological trauma.

I would fee like a complete **** if i ever beat my children, or physically harm them in any way. Im not really sure how i would deal with a situation like my child throwing a fit in public, but i sure as hell would not resort to hitting him/her. Ive been beat by my parents, aunts, and grandparents, it never helped me, in fact i dont know if this is linked to beating, but i suffer from anxiety and im manic depressive. So i dont know how much beatings you need to straighten that....i never felt respect, all i ever felt was fear...the fear that i would get hit, i dont want my kids(if i ever have any) to feel that.

Hitting your kids isn't right no matter what the circumstances.

Yup, it makes sense if its justified. they say kids under 10 years of age dont know right from wrong, they know the difference between getting smacked and not getting smacked.

This is bullsh*t. I was spanked as a child I dont resent my parents, in fact I have huge amounts of respect and gratitude for the discipline I received as a child. The same goes for my parents respecting theirs. My Dad told me that his mother would spank her kids with whatever she could get her hands on, and not a one of her kids resented her, the loved and respected her. Your child's mind is like clay needing to be molded, and its your job as a parent to mold it regardless what actions you may need to take. This talk about allowing your child to express himself, well thats BS. A child when young will soak up what he sees around him and express himself accordingly, its your job to make sure that he expresses himself correctly not the way the world would have him do.

You need to smack up your kids at least once a week. Its punishment for whatever they got away with.

I'm not for it. I've seen first hand how it doesn't work, at least for my brother and sister and I, and my kids. Talking to them works much better IMO.

Hello there. :) I hope you are joking because this is actually a major problem. Fear and respect are actually polar opposites. There is no respect in fear, and no fear in respect.

Not really, I both fear and respect some of my teachers at the same time, same could be said for my dead.

Respect: When your father dies, you do the appropriate thing and attend to his funeral. Fear: When your father dies, you attend to his funeral, but only so you can, uh, spit on his grave.

I agree its stupid, but thats kids for you. I guess I would hit them, not hard, just to teach them a lesson. But only as a last resort type of thing.

I'm all for spanking. A small kid is usually not going to understand if you tell him it's not ok so you spank them to teach them not to do it again. Now if you're leaving bruises when you're spanking them then that's wrong, you should in no way harm the child while spanking him.

At first: I would reason with them Then: I would try to humiliate them (by acting like them) If they ever hit me, I just hit harder, or punch them back, and then act all normal.
