[quote="Talking Points Memo"] "This might be our last chance to save freedom in America." That's the message a piece of direct mail sent out by the National Campaign for an Impeachment Inquiry, a project of The Conservative Caucus, which is calling -- as their name would suggest -- for the impeachment of President Barack Obama. Why you ask? Well, for one, there's "ObamaCare," which TCC brands as an effort to "control the people." Also, Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro like Obama and his "march of America toward Socialism, or worse." The flyer, obtained by TPMMuckraker, includes a "national ballot of 5,000,000 registered voters" on "Whether Congress Should Launch An Impeachment Inquiry Into President Barack Hussein Obama's Assault On Our Constitution."

Link OT thoughts? Isolated far right fringe group or a realistic prelude to what to expect if the Republicans take over one or both houses of Congress in November? Simply red meat fundraising letter or actual potential Republican policy? I'd like to think that Republicans will remember the lessons from the Clinton years and not launch impeachment proceedings, but I have a sneaky feeling that there's a realistic (greater than 10%) chance that Republicans would indeed spend the next two years launching inquiry after inquiry and seize on anything they can to impeach President Obama. I don't think there's much in the way of "moderate" Republicans any longer. Full Mailer here

i think its a little bit right wing nutjob, but theres a part of me that says "y'know they could be right" it just seems like america is slowly stripping away its citizens freedoms in the name of one thing or another.

I hope they try it, I'd love to see how the Republicans justify wasting time with a pointless and unfounded impeachment process come 2012.

Impeaching Obama... I go back and forth on this one. I feel he's socialist and harming the country and throwing it into a pit of despair, but then again am I just paranoid?

I agree with the latter but he shouldn't be impeached. That's a complete waste of time.

Impeachement. Happens with every President it seems like nowadays. Started with Clinton, then Bush, then Obama. The party in the opposite side of power will always "impeach" because they don't like the president.

Eh....while Bush diserved to be impeached, because he has freaken blood on his hands.....Clinton beceause of lying about sex? Obama because he's trying to pass health care to improve people's lives? Just mentioning this as a neutral observer. Before people say I'm a liberal parot (And I know its coming)....let me say I am not. I don't really care. I'm a neutral observer.

I just think this health care thing is not understood at all....its not meant to control peoples lives as they say. They are just in a corner, and they are spewing their hate. That's all there is to it when it comes to health care. You don't have to sign up for the new health care. I might not sign up for it either. Just my two cents.

Impeachment would only look worse for the Republican party.

The republicans are going through a very crappy phase right now. There is no good conservative party in the US now which is actually doing more harm than good to the country. The Republicans are to right. They don't try to work with any social policy what-so-ever. It doesn't work in their favor when it comes to getting votes.

They also talk for smaller government, but when in power they do nothing but increase spending while decreasing taxes. You can't have both.

I know seriously. You have to live in a socialist country to know what it is. Obama is not a socialist by any standards.

Impeach him for what? A bill that passed through Congress and was later signed into law? Y'know, per process? Reminds of the sillyheads who thought Bush should be impeached for the Patriot Act.

So you are only getting one side of the story (conservative) which also makes you biased. See what I did there? Republican Party will only shoot itself in the foot if it starts the impeachment process because most Americans, to my knowledge, are concerned with fixing USA's economy and not with either party pursuing their own political agenda.

I can't fathom the Republicans actually attempting to impeach Obama, let alone the notion that there would be success with such a measure were it to get to the floor.

Breaking the law is impeachment worthy. Says so right in the Constitution. Hence Clinton getting impeached, not for lying about sex, but for lying in sworn testimony to a federal grand jury (which is a felony).

I still can't believe nearly 20 years after the cold war some people are still falling for red scares. Jesus.

Anyway, the "pro-constitutional" label is pretty ironic in this instance. "I like the Constitution, let's impeach a president who followed the legislative process set out in it!".

More government programs and taxes are progress?

Everyone else is doing it, and the only reason we have not ventured to that is because of Reagan and his idea of 'limited government'.

Just because everybody else is doing it doesn't mean it's a good thing. Higher taxes and deficit spending cannot be a good thing for any country.

Government in this country shouldn't be large. Again, there is NO reason we have to copy the systems of other nations. The government needs to protect the people's rights, not take responsibilities away from them.

Regan's idea of limited government would be great if he wouldn't have also jacked up spending on the military like he had. The idea of small government and a large private sector isn't a bad thing. It's only really bad when you start deficit spending like mad. Now it's coming back to haunt us. Instead of reducing and maybe increasing taxes here and there to make a surplus, we are given a couple trillion dollars more in spending.

How is that progressive? Feel-good policies like health care and social security don't make for good laws. They take the responsibility of the citizens and puts it on the state, which in turn puts the responsibility on everybody, not just those who it's effecting.

The US is not built on the idea that everybody is fair. The only thing we are all supposed to be completely equal on is our rights as laid out in the Constitution. We have the right to peruse happiness, we have to catch it ourselves. The idea that you can take away personal responsibility and give it to others isn't progressive, it's actually a step back as it slows all sectors down. Then we have some serious problems.

Ok where does he advocate government owenership of the means of production? The bailouts were coordinated by Bush and are a non-point.

They're welcome to try; the attempted impeachment of Clinton was one of the major contributing factors to the Democrats' better-than-expected showing in 1998, and this time they don't even have anything remotely approaching legitimate impeachment grounds.

Any direction towards a mixed market is socialism to these people. They're idea of left and right are highly skewed.

But, but, Rush Limbaugh said he was socialist!!!
