Love continues to grow deeper with time, so even if being in love is just infatuation, cant infatuation turn into love?

Of course. When someone is special to you (platonic or not) you just want to be good to them and for them to be happy, this is the basis of love. You can love a dog, a wife or even the whole world.
What I meant by dividing the two is because there is always a cooling-off period with a romantic relationship. There is that hump about 3-9 months into it when your mind's eye really sees the person. You have had enough time spent with that person to really understand who they are. Reality hits and you realize they do things you may not like or agree with; like slurp their soup, become critical of strangers or just don't clean up after themselves very well. This is when the patience comes into play.
In order to stay in love with someone you need to decide everyday and treat it like the first. Loving someone will come naturally right on it's heels.
What do you mean exactly by 'treat it like the first'Don't take the person for granted. Treat it like the first day means look at the person like you've never seen em before. Encourage the things you guys did together to continue to happen, like nookie-sessions, just laying and staring with a smile, picnics - whatever. Hold hands frequently, talk about likes/dislikes, dreams, wishes or plans. Keep it new by "treating it like the first".
