there will such a massive generation gap by then the real classic rock of the 60's and 70's will be considered archaic and irrelevant. Bands like Fallout Boy, MCR, and Green Day will have paved the way for the new generation of rock & roll.

lol I dunno, just seems odd..

New term, no doubt. Like, "Old School Emo" or something.

Maybe technical death metal will be considered as classic rock.

I doubt they'd be remembered at all. They're pretty much a fad band.

Only if we permit the generation that listens to that crap to grow up and become the controlling demographic.

i've thought of that before. i don't think a lot of newer bands will still be being listened to in 30 years like the bands we consider classic rock today.

WAIT, I just thougtof something. Even though we praise all the classic rock bands of the 60's today, do you think back then they got the same hate from hardcore fans that fallout boy and MCR gets? Like back then, were the chuck berry & bob dylan generation of rock & roll fans hating on bands like the beatles and the stones? Did buddy guy fans hate hendrix?!

Like it all comes full circle.

OMG i'm just opening up all types of philisophical avenues today

There would have been, but not in a group sense you see it. The thing you're forgetting is that different people have different tastes in music, it would be as clear cut as Chuck Berry V Beatles. And there wasn't that much variety in music as there is now.

Not every band has longevity. They may be popular at one time, but that doesn't mean they will be remembered in future.

I don't see that happening. They don't have the longevity factor. Very important.

But all of these bands are interchangeable so I doubt they will be remembered. Or if they are it will be in the New Kids On The Block way of "Wow they were so bad"

Just like the girls of the 90s all loved boy bands, and who thinks they are amazing artists now? Nobody, but they were very popular during the 90s.

Sorry to break this to you, but your generation is now and thus FOB is now. It wont be until the next 4-5 generations that decide that.

And they wont last because FOB are a fad, their current fanbase consist mainly of angsty teens and pre-teens, most of which will grow out of it at some point. And before you pull the "Beatles had a screaming teen fanbase too" FOB just dont have versatility or songwriting skills that a lot of the classic bands have.

sorry to break it to you but songwriting skills mean absolutely nothing to today's teenagers. Today it's about emotion, which teens of today could connect. And 5 years from will will still be MY generation

Boogie_J

How can you convey emotion if you can't write a song? These bands provide a 10 minute thrill for the teen generation, and they make money. Hence why the are interchangeable, the record industry knows they make money, hence the market saturation, and so the lack of versatility and song writing talent. All you have then is bands who will have their 15 minutes, and will then fade into the ether.

So you are saying I could dress up in a hip way, play random notes on an instrument, and then just make silly noises over the mic and become a musical act that will be remembered for generations?

Green Day isn't that bad... Their old material is quite good, with Dookie being my favorite pop-punk album.

Yeah, I'm not a big pop-punk fan but I really do enjoy that album.
