Pencil and notebook. I write faster than I type, plus it is easily transpotable, and I like being able to write side notes in the margines and being able to draw diagrams.

I got a netbook back in April (right around the time school ended) and have been using it every day this year in university. I used to never take notes and did well. But now I can actually take notes and have them there if I need them. And it also really helps pass the time if the lecture is boring. It also gives me the ability to look things up on the internet if I want to know more about them.

EDIT: Though, I still take notes in pencil for when I go to Sanskrit club. Since writing languages, especially ones with complex alphabets, is difficult in any other method.

Pen and Paper. I don't want my Labtop getting Stolen or Broken. I find taking notes helps me absorb information better too. Math Class is killer though, nothing to do but stare at your blank sheet of paper. A Labtop you can at least doodle or something.

or look up how to do the equation. Thats the only advantage i find with having laptop during a lecture. Don't understand a word or topic then just google it.

pen and paper. you really dont have to write down every burp that comes out of the professor's mouth. its all about determining what is important.

There was this girl in a few of my lectures who never took notes, but you knew she clearly understood the stuff since she would constantly question the lecturer, good questions mind. She could have read textbooks that closely followed the course but to remember everything the course pertained and what was relevant for the exam is something I clearly do not have the brain power or time for. I NEED to take notes and the quickest way to do so is with pen and paper, since Math has a lot of symbols and diagrams that would be more time consuming to do on a laptop.

Usually a pencil and paper.

I don't always take notes since my professors all post or email their lecture notes or outlines.

Pen and paper. I didn't do the whole laptop thing because I don't retain the information as well as I did with my notes. I have a very detailed, elaborate way of taking notes and the laptop can not handle that. And I found myself being distracted doing other stuff instead.

I do both. I type out the words on the computer, write out diagrams, formulas/drawings etc. on paper. When I print out my notes that I had just typed, I transfer the drawings under the appropriate sections that I pertain to the drawings. (I make gaps in my notes to insert the drawings later) It's a good system, I think. I don't miss out on everything the teacher lectures on.

Mechanical pencil and paper. Writing equations on a laptop is a waste of time when it could take you less than 5 seconds to write it on paper?

Pen and paper, when i feel like taking notes, most of my profs put notes up on a website and I get it from there, I just write down what they tell me to write. Also 90% of people on laptops are surfing/chatting not taking notes.

If it's not a science class, I'll type. If not, I either write a few notes, but chances are I'll just buy notes if the professor doesn't post any power points.

Depends on the class. In some classes, the teacher just reads straight from the text book and gets the test questions from there. so i just zone out and daydream in class, then read the chapters the day before the test.

In other classes, the teacher actually teaches stuff, but still uses the book as a guideline. for those, I pay attention in class, but dont take notes. then I go over the book before the test.

Then there's the classes that practically force you to take notes (I use pen and paper), because they actually want the class to be hard

No, there is a student ran organization here that makes notes. They type down word for word what the professor says, and include every diagram shown. They're incredibly easy to study off of. I get them for every class of mine they offer to do.

Mathmatic/Symbol based courses (Ie Chem/Linear Algebra/calc) I would use a pen/paper

Useful written courses (Ie Biology) I would you my laptop

Useless written courses (Ie English) I surf the internet at the back of the room on my laptop.
