You're too young to lift weights.

Use steroids instead.

Don't do things that put pressure on your back vertically, that may make you shorter.  Don't do anything too heavy either.

It's hard to get muscles that young (due to puberty), wait till you're a year or two older.

If you're serious about this, there are much better places to go to for information than this site.  Go to a body-building website, or purchase muscle magazines, etc.  You can ask here, and take your chances on whatever is posted, or you can go to a reputable source.  Just trying to help out.  :)

No, you are at the right age to start weight training as you are entering puberty and your testosterone levels (essential for building muscle) are increasing. Just make sure you do it right, don't listen to other 14-year olds. Form is everything, if you don't have the right form, you will be counter-productive and you will hurt yourself. Read my replies to your other thread. Done right, you will be a *MONSTER* by the time you are 18.

i thought it was atleast 16, because your muscles are still developing and if you start working them now

you will get some sort of mutation in your muscle growth. And im being serious, my PE teacher told me.

It should be fine, i used to lift weights for the football team freshman year at highschool, it was required by our coach so i assume it should be fine if coaches make you do it at that age for a football team.

It wouldn't hurt to start but don't lift too much (and don't use free-weights). That way, when you really start working out, your muscles are accustomed to the exercise.

Form is how you lift the weights, like posture.

Weight training requires a lot of discipline, you will be in pain for the first two weeks, but if you keep at it, the pain goes away. It takes about 90 days before you start seeing results, so don't get discouraged.

You don't have to start with your legs, but make sure they are part of your workout. a typical workout is about 45 mins long (with a partner who knows what he's doing) 5 days a week. You want to work your chest one day, legs, arms, back, and shoulders, each on different days.

Remember, your legs will be killing you after your first workout (18-24 sets of legs) I strongly suggest that you hook up with some guys who know what they're doing. It is impossible to teach you proper form over the internet.

Depends on how hard you work. Don't try too hard or you might seriously injure yourself. Read my first post (above this if nobody posts now). If you work at a steady pace, you should see improvement in a week or two. When you first start, a little bit of soreness is normal.

kid, read my replies in your other posts and go throug the process of enlightment. But usually when you start using weights hard at first, mucles youve never notices before will creep up on you, like triceps and such. But yeah exercise first, lots of pushups, whatever works your shoulders, triceps, chest and back.

Best advice is to wait until you're 16 or 17. Wait until you're at leat as tall as you Dad before you start lifting weights. 14 is far too young to be lifting waits anyway. Do press-ups or chin-ups until you're older.

That's way too much for a first-timer. He should be doing around 5-10 sets with a weight that makes him tired at around the 15th rep.

Sorry, i meant football in the english term, which (if you are america) is soccer to you? I still generally think

14 yr olds should not over do it and if they are, take it slowly and not go stupid with the lifting.

There are different types of weight training, what he wants to do is build mass. What you are talking about is more of an aerobic workout, designed to trim fat and cut an already built frame.

i was lifting when i was 14. just make sure you learn technique and don't power lift. do 2 sets of 6-12 reps for each exericse using proper technique, and don't increase the weight until you can do 2 sets of 12 reps.

Guys, we can't know unless we know his size, height, and build. I am 14, 5'8, and I weight lift. And I don't do light weights. I can bench 190lbs and squat 280lbs. It depends on the person. I am not shorter then when I started, I did not stop growing, I AM getting stronger though. It depends on the person, so if you want advice, go to a personal trainer or atleast someone who knows what they are doing.

And also, don't do less then three sets. If you can only do 2 sets you are either doing too much weight or too many reps. I weight lift to get stronger so I do 3 sets of 8-10 for every excercise. You can do more reps if you want, but don't go over 15. If you can do 15 reps for three sets add some weight, even if you are only trying to get more lean. If you can do three sets of 8 reps, then you should not add ANY weight, and might want to take a few pounds off.

Sets are just groups of reps. If you do 10 reps, then take a break, that is one set.

A set is anywhere between 1 and 20 repetitions. When you're trying to build mass, you start with a weight that you can lift, say, 15 times. That's one set. Then you increase the weight by 5-10lbs, and do, say 10 reps. That's 2 sets. So-on and so-forth.

Also, weight lifting and body building are different. Body building is doing light weight for high reps to get big muscles. Doing 12-15 reps is body building. Weight lifting is getting stronger, so you do fewer reps with higher weight. 8-10 reps is what you would want for weight lifting.

They generally develop faster than boys.

So that means they stop growing at 14? Womens bodies continue to develop into their 20s. Hell, I was 5'3 till I was 16 and I am now close to 5'7.

Yes you are fine, I started when I was around 13. Youll gain alot of mass within the first year you do it, it slows down later on but you still get alot stronger.

..Girls stop growing at 14? I must be a mutant.

They generally develop faster than boys.

So that means they stop growing at 14? Womens bodies continue to develop into their 20s. Hell, I was 5'3 till I was 17 and I am now close to 5'7.

Im not saying they stop at 14, the person above me did. All im saying is that girls start puberty

generally 2 years before boys, thats all.

I would wait, i hear it does stump growth. Unless there is a reason. Dont do it to try to look tough and muscular, but if your doing it for a sport then I would say yes. But dont over do it.

So.... if you're doing it for a sport, it doesn't stunt your growth?
