I respect your opinion over your distate for anime, but in all honesty; the worst form of entertainment is TV poker. Jesus, it's like watching paint dry, if the paint had less personality somehow.
I personally love anime, I always end up preferring the manga if there is one though. I think they have some of the most unique storylines on TV compared to some of the overused nonsense. There are some sub-genres that really get on my nipples, like "harem" which is that annoying thing where loads of girls fall for a guy with the personality of a slug in a trance, but most of it I really do enjoy.
the reason anime bashers annoy me is that they always refer to the same shows which are known to be bad, then use that to generalise the whole thing. It's like saying that all video games are bad after giving Big Rigs a try.Zagrius
Quoted for emphasis.
Generalizing doesn't help your argument.
TC: Chances are I hate the shows to which you're referring. There's lots of crappy shounen shows out there, but unfortunately that's all that seems to get adapted quickly in North America.
There really are some great series out there intended for older audiances. Not everything is like Naruto/Bleach/DBZ as all of these fall under the shounen demographic (intended for a young male audiance.) Check out the seinen demographic..shows like Monster, Black Lagoon, and Higurashi will quickly dispel your pre-conceived notions of anime.
I have no problem with Anime, however I do have a problem with people who think just because something is made in Japan, it is automatically better than everything else. And those people are typically Anime fans.caje47
Those are referred to as "weaboos."
Even anime fans hate them. See here for the distinction.
... It's just poorly drawn characters with exaggerated features going "I HAVE FIRE BALL MEET YOUR DOOM KOGURASHI!" Lots of flashy stuff happens in the background while the two people fighting float in the air but never touch each other until it's zoomed in so close on their faces you can see their skin cells. ...

That right there is an accurate description of Dragonball Z, one series out of thousands. Your argument is akin to saying that all video games suck because Superman 64 exists. It's generalizing to a massive degree and really only makes you look ignorant. Check out Cowboy Bebop or Outlaw Star before you make statements about how *all anime* sucks. It's not a genre, it's a medium. It's broad enough for everyone to have something that they like.
Anime uses some of those things you find anoying because they want to cheapen production costs. Alot of anime is generic crap. Just like all mediums but here are a few good ones. Not for everone but well made
-Cowboy Bebop
-Trigun
-Blood +
-Full Metal Alchemist (although not everyone will like this)
-Yu Yu Hakisho
From what I hear Evongellion and Deathnote and Elfin Lied are good but I've never seen them
There is alot of unique anime that never gets attention. And alot of crap. And alot of stupid fans that miss the message and depth of their show.
Don't bash an entire genre just bash the suck. Remember there is a difference between justified critisim for something that is bad and being biased because you don't get it.
I honeslty tried getting into it. Though one time I watched bleach.. and he was talking to this stupid monster the whole time. Also they really like that up beat techno lol... Honestly though I personally like American cartoons better like Family Guy, Futurama, and South Park. Though, if anyone has any links to good anime, i'll probably take a look at it. Meh___Guy
Check this out:
Outlaw Star
Akira ... Princes mononoke ... ninja scroll ... spirited away ... steamboy ... and many others are all excellent anime that disney, dreamworks or any other animation studio would have loved to make. Just because it is japanese animation does not make it cookie cutter poke-garbage. Or do you think american animation sucks too? Either way the worst form of entertainment ever is easily referred to as the "donkey show", but i am not even gonna start to explain that.limitless_rage
Princes Mononoke is fine, Spritited Away is fine, never seen Ninja Scroll. Steamboy was annoying, and Akira was boring. Yes you heard me. I felt that the so called pinacle of anime, Akira, was boring and needlessly campy. I didn't like it at all.
That's one problem you'll have with anime when you're getting into it. A lot of people will recomend shows you probably just won't like. It's really hard to find proffesional, honest reviews of anime these days. Most of them are just "zomg show haz fanzervie it RAWKS!" or "zomg show has super ORIGINAL emotion plot and all characs are trubled passed!"
When what of video games? If anime sucks because of that,so does video games, either you're contradicting yourself,or i'm missing something :?People obsess over this stupid **** when they could be learning about stuff that actually matters. ALL TV sucks...but anime is right at the bottom of the list with professional wrestling and American Idol.

I'd avoid stereotyping all of anime into one description because you saw one or two shows that fellow geeks recommended you should see but SUCKED. I will say that about 85% of anime sucks. 5% is barely watchable, and about 8% is good, while only about 2% demonstrates any kind of genuine amazement. Like most entertainment these days. CaptHawkeye
Hey, it's just Sturgeon's Law: 90% of everything is crap. Anime is no different from other mediums in that regard.
Old anime such as Battle Of The Planets, Robotech, Astro Boy(classic & 80's), and Macross are testiments to the awesome potential that anime one had, but this new trash from the late 90's onward is nothing but milked garbage to please those who would take it any way they can get it.
Anime was once good. When looking at what modern anime has done to my favorite shows like the Transformers, I can't help crying. I never seen a Decepticon act like a spoiled child in a candy store before. Really sad.
I watch it mostly because it achieves alot of things that cant be done in hollywood films due to budget or time.
Someone can draw a scene in a few days that takes 3 months to shoot normally.
That and they generally have alot more fantasy material than movies which are more often than not based off fictional portions of reality.
It also helps that im an asian nut. I really get into the mythology and history of japan and anime is just one facet of a larger picture.
I swear half the threads on OT are about anime.
How can people watch anime? I don't understand the fascination.
This is the premise of every anime I've ever seen. How can people find this crap entertaining? It makes me want to find whoever makes that crap put kill them to put the world out of misery.

Obviously you're making in ignorant rant about something you don't know much about. How much anime have you actually seen?
There's good, decent anime and then there's fad anime. You're basing all your assumptions on fad anime. I suggest you watch some of the top quality ones before jumping to conclusions. And you could do the smart thing and judge each anime on its own, as one would judge a movie on its own rather than condemning the whole medium.

Wow, I agree with this thread completely. I thought I was alone. Anime is terrible. It's the most stupid crap I've ever seen. What's even worse is the anime fans I've seen. They were freakin weirdos.
Thanks for generalizing Anime. Do you even know 'why' you're complaining?
Black Lagoon
Armitage
Appleseed
Akira
Venus Wars
Ghost in a Shell
The Animatrix
Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz
Those are awesome Animes. Series and movies. Stop watching Inuyasha and thinking all Anime is garbage.
I rather watch Cowboy Bebop and Bleach then watch stupid shows on MTV like the real world or Super Sweet 16. The worst form of Entertainment is reality shows.
I rather watch a action intense anime like Bleach where two people are clashing with swords instead watching some stupid girl on super sweet 16 whining about her parents getting her a BMW instead of a Mercedes-Benz.
Anime is much more formulaic than it's hardcore fans give it credit for but so is most any form of established entertainment. TC is pretty much talking about the "tournament" style anime like DB, Naruto, and Bleach. My two favorite anime are Excel Saga and Bobobobo because they rip on the whole medium and expose it for what it is.
I still like a lot of different kinds of anime though and there is a steady supply of new stuff that succeeds in being it's own thing surrounded by a mess of mediocre crap just like American TV.

you're a pothead so i'll put it in terms you'll understand. saying all anime is the same and sucks because you've seen dragonball z and naruto is like saying all pot is the same and sucks because you've only smoked brown, mexican dirt weed.I swear half the threads on OT are about anime.

I don't like it but I can see how people would. For me, it's just too over-dramatic. I also find it to be repetetive. It's like the main character has to be some dark, quiet hero with secret un-tapped power meanwhile he is in love with some girl who they try to make look cute and have a sort of "damsel in distress" role.
I know not all anime is like, I know. But at this point, I don't care enough to look. The only anime I did enjoy was DBZ and Cowboy Bebop. I've also been told Death Note was good but I've yet to see it.

That's a typical action/fantasy shounen anime. Shows like Naruto, Bleach, DBZ, and One Piece are targetted at the shounen demographic (simply put, this means they're shows generally targetted at males under the age of 18. Edit: "Shounen" translates as "boy"..)
Shounen anime =/= all anime.
It seems when someone says they hate anime, they always only manage to bring up examples of shounen series. Ah well. This thread should just die already. The same basic concepts/arguments are being repeated over and over; we're going in circles..

You should like Excel Saga then. I think it's great! Bobobobo brings me to tears I start laughing so hard sometimes.
