I moved out when I was 18 and only lived with my parents during breaks.
I would say people miss out on a lot of life if they don't move out.
I'm 23 now and I have been living in apartments and on my own for nearly 6 years now and I love it.
Living at home is cheap, but that's about it. You're not always going to be able to live with your parents and the sooner you can accept the responsibilties of life the better.
I am 20 years old myself, Live with my parents and I work for my dad. You don't even know how bad i want out of this house. If i could move into a place and be able to cover the rent, I'd be so fking happy. Why ? Because I have things that I like to do when my parents are away, such as get stoned. listen to LOUD music. I can barely turn anything up in my room cause i piss my mother off. I play bass for crying out loud. I NEED TO BE ABLE TO MAKE SOME F****** NOISE !I'm 20 years old. I am also a university student. I am still living with my parents, and I can't see myself leaving the house or getting married, ever. My parents are pretty chill people and I get to live here rent-free. I can imagine myself living here for a while.
How about you? Are you an adult still living with your parents? Do you plan on moving out, or is this going to be the status quo that you will embrace for the rest of your life? I know I probably fall into the latter category.

I would love to move out... but with the prices here... It's like shooting yourself in the foot before trying to run a marathon.I moved out when I was 18 and only lived with my parents during breaks.

Yes, he could lose limbs. I could lose limbs in a car accident. I'm not asking if there is a potential to lose limbs. I'm asking how badly diabetes impairs his ability to work. If it's caused by morbid obesity, it may be that complications from that are the foundation for disability. It wouldn't be an unusual cause for Type II Diabetes either.[QUOTE="thegerg"][QUOTE="Bucked20"]Yes, he could lose limbs. I could lose limbs in a car accident. At a sturdy 260 lbs that Easports48 is (or was, judging from his post in the height/weight etc. thread), one would think so.
Also, I don't think he's trolling. He's been telling us more or less the same thing for 2-3 years.
I know a lot of 18+ year olds still living with their parents around here. 95% of them can't afford the cost of living in New York. And it's only getting worse.
I will add that anyone who came of age in the last 2-3 years has a much more understandable case for still living at homeI know a lot of 18+ year olds still living with their parents around here. 95% of them can't afford the cost of living in New York. And it's only getting worse.

Yeah, I'm 19 living with my mom. I'll be taking online classes again for community college starting on January 9th.
Are there still people that think kids should be kicked out at 18? If so, that's pretty sad. I would be homeless if my mom kicked me out at 18. O_O How many 18-19 year olds can hold their own place, car, and job so young? All of that while in school.

Depends where they live. If I was living in North Dakota, I'd have no problem kicking my child out at 18. In New York, I wouldn't dream of it.

I moved to Atlanta to start at Georgia Tech when I was 17, no need to kick me out, I was running out the door*raises hand*Yeah, I'm 19 living with my mom. I'll be taking online classes again for community college starting on January 9th.

I got parental consent to join the military at 17, right when I graduated high-school. I didn't want to stay in NY any more than I had to. When I came home after my enlistment I lived with my folks until I could get a job. I don't see anything wrong with living with your parents until you get your life in order, especially in a a place like NY.

Me either I can understand if its a temp solution until you get going but I know a few guys here that still live at home have a decent paying job and just keeps stashing money away in the bank accounts. It's not like their parents are poor either I just don't think they really care and let the guy mooch. One is 22, 26 and almost 30 and still crashing at home and have no plans to move out anytime soon.especially in a a place like NY.people use 'location' a lot in giving excusesairshocker
I have no problem with people that live at home post HS (though I tend to think less of them, but that can't be helped). The only thing I have a problem with are the excuses. If you want to live at home b/c it is easier, then more power to you...just don't make excuses. That is even more pathetic IMO.
-this is not talking about people that are at home to help their parents (versus the parents helping them)

My friend is 24 and now living with his parents. He just got out of the USAF too. But the only difference is, he can't find a job. No one in this area of New York is really hiring, and all the skillsets he has(security, police work) require him to get a permit to a pistol, get upgraded to a security carry, and go through security guard training classes. This place is a nightmare for people looking for honest, good-paying work.
people use 'location' a lot in giving excuses
-cost of living, no job, etc I say move then.

To each his own. Nothing I said was false. This state is far, far too expensive to live on your own. And having family here is another reason why someone wouldn't want to go live somewhere else.
Why does one have to live on their own? Not living with parents =/= living alone. To each his own. Nothing I said was false. This state is far, far too expensive to live on your own. And having family here is another reason why someone wouldn't want to go live somewhere else.

That's their fault then. Living with someone else virtually cuts your rent in half, making it affordable to live almost anywhere if you've got a full-time job.[QUOTE="rawsavon"]

I agree it is too expensive.Like I said, I have no problem with someone staying at home.
They could just say "I choose to live at home b/c ______". But saying you can't live on your own just makes someone look either incompetent or like a little b*tch

I don't know where fault comes into anything. It's perfectly reasonable to not like having roommates. I hated my roommates while I was in the military. Most of them were nasty, didn't clean up after themselves and rarely showered.

Fault comes in when you were blaming the geographic area. I'm stating that you can do it almost anywhere if you live with someone else. And you can choose your roommates. Or you can move in with someone you already know and trust.I agree it is too expensive.
If everyplace was like that, I would see your point, but wanting to be around family, cost of living, no job, etc are all just excuses (since they can be fixed).
...people COULD move out and live on their own.Like I said, I have no problem with someone staying at home.

Like I already said, distance to family is a major factor for some people. I know my wife refuses to move further away from her family, even though I would like to go back to North Dakota and live far more comfortably than we do here. I don't particularly want to move away from my parents and my sister, but such is the state of my area that it's looking more and more attractive.

So it's not the state's fault for being so expensive? News to me.
