[QUOTE="jaydough"][QUOTE="printer72"][QUOTE="cfamgcn"][QUOTE="PSBox3SixWi"]it seems like you can get modded on a whim for the slightest thing. it seems a bit ridiculous. example.... i was asked a question. i said, "no" and got modded. was my "no" on a thread with a few PAGES of discussion really bothering anyone? whatcha think? printer72
Saying "no" doesn't really contribute to the thread...
I'm glad moderators are doing their jobs, otherwise, we would have "were r teh mods" threads every 5 minutes ;)
Well if you're asked a yes or no question, then what's wrong with posting yes or no? You shouldn't always be required to give some kind of big schpeel to a simple question.
I'm pretty sure 3 words or less constitutes spam, so just saying "No" would be spam.I agree for the most part, however, if you're asked a question by someone.....like "Oh yeah, but does your Mom think it's okay?" and you say "No". Then what's wrong with that?

For the record, one-word posts are not always moderated for disruptive posting as if there was a zero-tolerance rule; we do try to take the context of the question into account. For example, if someone's just taking a poll of "cake vs. pie", someone would probably not be moderated for just saying "cake".
That said, however, if you respond to an entire paragraph of text that was obviously intending to start a discussion by just saying "no", we'd really prefer you to make more of an effort to actually participate in the discussion.

Wrong. I answered a poll question of rock or rap with rock and got moderated.
It was a nice place that was fun... 5 or 6 years ago.... the admin were really nice at that time and system wars was a place where you could post off-topics.
Now it's so strict that I wonder how can some moderators can mod so much peoples maybe older than them?
It's just that myspace is a piece of garbage and that IGN is the DOS of all the forums... and they are not free...
If I could find a better place, I will post there...

I respect your opinion, but older =/= mature, at least in my opinion.
If you have ever managed a forum (I have) you would know it is a pain to deal with so much SPAM...

I'm sorry, but a forum is SPAMMING not matter what you define by SPAMMING. It's all just a waste of space...Girls problem... do i look good? COME ON, THAT'S SPAMMING! All threads is SPAMMING, even this one! So what can you define as SPAMMING if everything is useless??
I've been moderated mostly because of my crude attitude toward idiots, nothing else.
Wrong. I answered a poll question of rock or rap with rock and got moderated.

Well, speaking for myself, I probably would not have moderated that.
- The whole maximum quote is something stupid
- The whole off-topics not in system wars is something stupid
- The whole BLOG post not posted is something stupid
- The whole moderations for such petty thing as saying "STUPID" is stupid
- Being modderated for useless reason more than 20 times, that's something really really stupid...

1. The vast majority of people will have already read every single post in the thread. Posting a message that quotes like 10 other posts is just wasted space that unnecessarily forces people to scroll down to see the actual new content. This is especially true if several of the posts are sizable in content.
2. I don't moderate System Wars, so I can't say much about that.
3. The operative word in the title "Off-Topic Discussion" is "discussion". Now, not every post needs discussion, but we would prefer people to in some way involve the other posters. The entire point of a person's blog is to talk about that person's life. For a person to then go to the forums just to talk about their day is just redundant.
4. I don't really know what you're referring to here.
5. If you don't understand why you were moderated, that's what Ask the Mods is for... and if you do understand why you were moderated, then the fact that there is an explanation for it ought to at least convey the fact that it's not useless... users are free to disagree with our reasons for moderating things, though.
So GS are not overly modeerated...? Are you nuts?!
Redgarl
Well, would it make you feel better for me to cuss out the moderation team and say that we're doing a terrible job? :P
They take it a bit too serious and the slightest thing gets they're blood boiling.maccer101
I thought the same thing at first but realized that it's other users who are the ones that report this to them. The few times I've been modded have been because some other user was out there looking for the slightest reason to click the 'report abuse' button.

You mean like those cartoons Muhammed that made people blow up their own buildings because they were so outraged?

Never really thought of that actually... so its the users that are the problem, hmmm...... I'll sort them out

About the threads you are talking about, they are in the "Off-topic" forum, so expect those.
If you ever report abuse to a moderator (like advertising), you would see what can get you moderated... basically anything offensive. If you are crude and someone finds it offensive, you get moderated. Simply as that.
Lesson: don't take everything seriously. Even if we go by what you said, this is "spamming", so don't act seriously when an idiot writes stupid stuff... what were you expecting anyway?

Well, contrary to popular belief, we do read the post in question before deciding whether or not we need to do anything about it. :P We don't just go "oh, this was reported, I guess we'd better moderate it".

1. It's definitely not stupid. There is nothing more annoying than scrolling through pages of quotes.
2. We have Off-Topic Discussion for a reason. System Wars is for system wars.
3. Blame coders, not the moderators.
4. If you want to read low quality posts, you can always go to GameTrailers. There is a reason why I prefer GameSpot over other sites and you seem to too.
5. More than 20 times? Somehow I believe you should blame yourself, not the mods.

So you are the problem then, hmm....... I'll sort you guys out then (oh no please don't mod me, was a joke!)
You can make polls all day long with more than 80% of the people protesting Gamespot's Moderators....
Gamespot obviously doesn't care. They care about as much George Bush when it comes to the war on terror.
Gamespot will continue to piss people off because it's all they know how to do.

I prefer to stay on a forum where my mother doesn't get insulted every time I post.
With that said, they could ease up a bit I think.

1. I agree with the post quote moderation. It's annoying to have to scroll to read posts because no one trims the quote chain.
It's defiantly the strictest forum on the web I'm even scared to spell words wrong in-case i get modded! Please don't hit me Mr.ModDX_HBK_HHH

I don't know about your particular situation but I would have to say yes in mine. They claim that all one has to do is read the TOS. But in actual practice, they use very subjective reasoning when deciding to do some moderations. I feel that in some cases, a person has to "walk on eggshells" when trying to avoid being moderated.
