you have the life you have now theres no sense in whining and complaining about it. your family gave you a good life. if you want to learn vietnamese ask your parents to get you a language program or take a college class (theres probably free websites to learn online as well).

Yes. That isn't the point, however. If you grew up in my neighborhood, attended the same high school as me, you would grow up to be a very different person and I would probably relate to you much more than I can right now.

Im vietnamese and i was adopted by a white family the day i was born.  I am 16 and a grew up around all white and black people and my white family.  I live by no asians, i barely have any asians friends, i have always been the only asian at my school, i don't speak my own language, i'm not with the "roots" of my own heritage. I don't live like vietnamese people.  Im vietnamese but im not a grown vietnamese. I know its better that i got adopted by a white family(my family as i should say since they raised me) but i just think it is kind of wrong that i got pulled from my rootes , and grew up as a white person with out my consent. Like atleast when i got put up for adoption make sure i get adopted by another vietnamese family, but Noooo, i had to be pulled from my own people and all.

I should just look forward and become the best i can be and become succesfull but i just hate it that i had to grow up without my own people.  

 

It's like im part of 2 worlds but not fully part of one. Like i will not be fully white person or be a fully vietnamese person.  I hate it when people tell me to just forget the past and be glad im adopted by a better family, but i didn't choose to start my life like this at all.  im kind of glad im adopted by a better family and all since  i do know my real family and they have A LOT of kids and don't live the lifestyle as good as i do, but at the same time, im basically a white person in a vietnamese body and i mean it when i say im the only asian at my school. And i don't live by any asians either or have asian friends.

I love being asian but it wont stick with me since i also don't have a vietnamese first or last name, don't speak my language, etc...

i know my family loves me and wants the best for me but they just changed the life of a human from the whole different race than them, and i don't think it is there desision to deside to do that and take a vietnamese baby and just raise it like a white child.  Like you can't just take a vietnamese baby and adopt it and basically segragate that baby from all of its people and raise it a they would for a white baby and then expect the child to accept that.  

I just want some advice on how to accept this better and not care about how i was raised...

Your race plays a large part in who you are and how others view you and at least from my experience in high school, those of the same or similar race stuck together. The filipinos all hung together, the hispanics stuck together, the whites stuck together and the blacks stuck together. Each in their own area because they could relate to each other. Sure there were groups that mixed together but the cliques existed. Capitan_Kid

My culture played a bigger part of who I am than my race.

Also, that wasn't my experience in high school.

It proves more than your personal experiences do. You're implying that culture rather than race dictates who you're friends with. The fact that people who grew up in the same area are more likely to befriend those of the same race contradicts that. And I said "city" but this is more common in rural areas. Rural areas, on average, are more racist than those in the city. And incase that offends you, I'll add that I live in a extremely rural area. And I see this quite a bit. If your area is different than I'm impressed. But one exception doesn't disprove a trend.

It would probobly be in your best interest to seek counsiling. You need to speak with a profesional so that you can sort this out and move on with your life. Don't burry your problems with drugs of alcohol either it will just make things worse.

Are you going to seriously try and tell me that you don't relate to people based on their culture? You relate to them because of their race?

I'm surprised by this, I have almost no white friends. They are pretty much all either Asian or Black despite me just being 1/4 Asian and having no black in me. Do people really hang out exclusively with others of similar races? Either way...that person should be happy that they have a good family that takes care of them and not worry about something so trivial as race.
