See? This is why I hate extremists of all beliefs. They give said beliefs a bad reputation and those of said beliefs get persecuted over it. :|

Personally I think this is Italy's government way of saying "multi-culturism has not worked" and "we want to stop Islamisation".

if you say so....

Persoanlly i don't like the niqab, but i see this as nothing short of bigotry under the guise of doing the women a favor.

The woman who wears nearly nothing is A - ok, but the woman who wears a niqab or even a hijab, is apparently repressed or is pushing her religious views on everyone. It's a double standard, straight up.

and i'm not defending that law or many of the laws. your missing my point completely. if a woman wears a hijab or even the niqab (which i don't particularly like) what is it any of your business that she wears it? I mean you live in a country where women could basically walk around naked and nobody blinks an eye. hell.... they got nude beach's even. I'm merely pointing a double standard.

I just changed my mind on this issue all the sudden, I think it was a good idea to ban them, because burqas are just taking away woman freedom. If a religion treats women like objects, then it is a bad religion.

They were always told that they are not as good as men and that they have to wear them so they cannot be disrespectful. They are forced to wear them, and if they are wanting to wear them, then it sounds like they have been successfully brainwashed to think that they are worthless baby makers.

Since women can't walk around fully naked, they shouldn't be allowed to walk around fully concealed either. Simple.

Seeing a woman's face is not sexually objectifying a woman. All the other stuff you mentioned; well you don't need a niqab for that.

[QUOTE="ShadowDeathX"][QUOTE="fooZar777"] yes because a Burqa is a mask, -.- wow...fooZar777

The issue for me is the concealment of the face, not women's rights.

Yes, this is my problem with the Burqa, I just feel so uncomfortable talking to someone wearing it. Some women wearing the Burqa are being repressed while others do it out of choice, but I know more than 1 person who feels forced into wearing the Burqa because its her families 'culture' or 'tradition'. Its a diffcult problem to solve, if you ban it then the people who do it out of choice will say they are being repressed but if you don't, the people who are being repressed, continue to be so.

On another topic, Saudi Arabia has a TERRIBLE human rights record; I would never want to visit there. That is the issue I think the world needs to address, but they feel threatened because of Saudi Arabia's Oil reserves...Just wait till that dries up:) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_Saudi_Arabia#Women.27s_rights

if you think so, ask a Muslim woman who wears a niqab. to her she's no longer being sexually objectified and is being taken for her words, with her looks not taken into account to influence that person's opinion of her. SaudiFury

Also, to SaudiFury, I don't care about how attractive a women is when I talk to her and it doesn't affect my opinion of her in general.

you have it misunderstood. I use to believe that as well but then I got some Muslims friends.

They aren't forced to wear it. Once they become of age, they have a choice of either to wear it or not to wear it. T

hat is why you see some Muslim women who do wear it and some who don't.

It is the same thing as a person who wears a more conservative style of clothes and some one wearing a more liberal style of clothes. Its is following tradition but they aren't forced to follow it.

What would you do, if you were forced to wear speedos everywhere you go because normal clothes is banned??

[QUOTE="SaudiFury"] you serious? how many Muslim women who wear the niqab do you know? i'm guessing not many. just easier to assume their all repressed.SaudiFury

The culture is repressing women, and nothing less.

if you say so....

It's a double standard, straight up.

while true. the burqa represents the oppression muslim women face and are forced to abide by oppressive rules in muslim countries. i do think they should be able to choose to wear the burqa if they see fit. but many dont get a choice. while i dont think its the governments business i do see they are probably trying to give some escape to what is an oppressed culture of women. however italy is not a land of the free. hell america isnt even the land of the free anymore. so these kinds of laws are on par with what i'd expect. again i dont think its the governments business.....but something does need to be done about the oppression of women in muslim countries and culture and this is law is likely justified as a small step in that direction.

Good, it's nothing short of sexual repression

Living near Dearborn in Michigan I tend to see quite a few. I'm good friends with a few of the women who wear them and they aren't very religious but the family is. I'm told they are afraid to not wear one because at best it usually results in being booted out of the house and at worst they get killed (you hear about this more then you would think). Sounds like repression to me if they are afraid to not wear a niqab don't you think?
