200 years ago we were of the opinion that black people were three-fifths of a person and perfectly acceptable as property, and that women were incapable of doing anything other than staying home, cooking, and taking care of kids.
The fact that things aren't perfect today is not exactly an indicator that things are not getting better.
Its going to get better slowly but theres always going to be one person who doesn't accept someone else for whatever reason.A big factor is obviously the media and the 'elites' that 'run' this earth honestly there a bad influence to all people.
[QUOTE="Genetic_Code"]Humans aren't perfect. They can't conform to any other standard except one that happens naturally, with a few exceptions of course.LJS9502_basicBut it's not hard to accept that we are all different. Why does it matter that someone is a different race or gender? Does it bother one that they have different beliefs so much that it's a quest to continually insult those beliefs? Why does it matter who someone is attracted to in life? Does it hurt you? NO.
people fear what they dont understand.Anyway, like some other people said, there will never be a time where all humans tolerate each other.
Humans aren't perfect. They can't conform to any other standard except one that happens naturally, with a few exceptions of course.Genetic_CodeParents who raise their kids to be racist is not natural.
"We" are still intolerant of other's race, gender, sexual orientation, and religious beliefs. Why is that? Is humanity destined to never reach enlightenedment? I for one have no problem with the differences between people...but after spending the morning reading some of these threads I have come to the conclusion that there is no hope that humans will do the right thing.
Your thoughts?
Your right we are all screwed...[QUOTE="MetalGear_Ninty"]I think the level of intolerance by people is very much overestimated beyond the actual levels of intolerance. I think its a bit crap that, you can have several, tolerant and understanding people, then for every ten of those you get one intolerant person -- and then suddenly a black mark is put on all of us.LJS9502_basicI'm, not saying everyone is intolerant. I, myself, am not intolerant. So I'd hardly paint everyone that way. But it seems that the intolerant outweigh the tolerant. I think it just appears that way. Intolerant people are probably more vocal, especially with the anonymity of the internet. I find children are much more tolerant today than when I was in school, just judging from my own personal experience.

I thought I already answered this question for you. Humanity will reach enlightenment when you become enlightened enough to figure out how to teach the rest of us.

[QUOTE="aaronmullan"][QUOTE="DrSponge"]There will never be a time where everyone is tolerant of everyone else.LJS9502_basicI agree, someone will always think differently.Thinking differently is fine...being intolerant of differences is not. If everyone thought that we are all equal, and I mean really equal, not this bs we have today, and someone thinks "no, they are different from me", then that is thinking differently, which apparently is fine. So no matter what intolerance = eternal till we are extinct.

You know, this thread is hypocritical anyway, because YOU'RE actually INTOLERANT of intolerance itself. You say that you are not intolerant by nature, but you are. Because if you were truly tolerant, you'd find a way to accept that intolerance is a part of life, and thus wouldn't be bothered enough by it to complain about it.
Tolerant people are at peace with the world around them, and you are CLEARLY not at peace, judging by the fact that you even made this thread.

Ah well you know assumptions are often wrong and in this case they are. I'm not one to get bothered much by other people. I generally ignore them. But it was an observation of what I saw in OT that day and it merely proves that for all the so called advances humans have made...they are still not developed enough to allow for differences. Then don't complain!

Then, perhaps tolerance is not as much a virtue as previously thought, if betterment both of self and of the world is impossible under it.
Then don't complain!

I never said anything about it being good or bad, this thread is just ridiculous. It's hypocritical at it's very core. You're intolerant of intolerance. This thread you made is all about how depressed it makes you. You're not open to it. Not open to it means you're intolerant of it. If you weren't such a self-absorbed emo, you might notice this.3-Legged_ManI think you are misapplying the word intolerant. Striving for the betterment of humanity does not mean one is intolerant. Oh...and obviously this thread shows I'm not self absorbed or I'd never notice the intolerance.;)
PS. I'm not an "emo". Sorry.

If you weren't such a self-absorbed emo, you might notice this. Or if he were a fairly wise observer of society and this forum it would bug him at the amount of intolerance. Which would prompt him to make this thread. If you were in the thread he was speaking of you might understand better, but I wouldn't wish that 10 page jibberish on anyone. It's perfectly ok to be angry or whatever at the lack of progress we have made and the utter lack of people respecting each others beliefs.[QUOTE="3-Legged_Man"][QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]Ah well you know assumptions are often wrong and in this case they are. That's cute. I see how you insinuate I have a little mind, but you didn't even understand my point correctly. Would your post be considered as "flaming" since you used the quote as a way of cutting me down? Oh but I bet since you're a mod you can get away with it, right? I'll tell you what I think is small-minded: Quoting someone to speak for you, rather than speaking for yourself. :)[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]I think you are misapplying the word intolerant. This thread is not depressing nor is it hypocritical. And again I have to ask what your old account was because I haven't been on much lately...and you are level 2. No worries, I just was in that veryyyyyyyyyyyy long thread and know where LJS's is coming from. I'd have started a similar topic myself if I'd have gotten off my ass this morning.

I read between the lines, and can tell by your choice of words that you are bothered/depressed. Maybe The Cure isn't labeled "emo", as a band, but they sure look and act like today's emo kids. Robert Smith is obviously a self-absorbed emo.

Really? That was the tipping point into misanthropy? You're a smart guy, I'm surprised you haven't figured it out by now. It is much, MUCH easier to spread peace than hate. Proof of concept: it took 246 years for black people in America to not be slaves anymore; Hitler put Jews and other people in camps within his first five years of power.
