It's apocalypse time again! (More evidence than ancient calendars)

The Large Hadron Collider is GOOD TO GO and it's countdown is on for 39 days today (August 31). Basically there are THEORIES about what might happen, ranging from giving us huge amounts of easy electricity, or destroying everything everywhere. Should probably book the day before off from work.

Here she is.

Sure armageddon always seems far fetched, but that's until the day it happens. At least we won't be arguing about it afterwards.

1) I HIGHLY doubt they'd make something that has the ability to destroy this world. Humans have a natural instinct for self-preservation. If we made the LHC with the knowledge it could destroy us, then I doubt they wouldve went on with the project.

2) I cant see past the whole "God" thing...

Well i read that it does have a chance to create a black hole and consume the earth in 4 years.
Here is what i just read what the mayans said:

To those who still seriously believe that this will bring about the end of the world, you have to realize that there are other powerful particle accelerators in this world which have no yet caused a doomsday. Sure, there is a debate that they could, but at least we are still here for right now, isn't that correct? jetpower3

Yes I have read that it won't destroy the world, and also that it could. Both are just theories you have to understand that what you are so sure of is also a theory, and that the LHC will not definately destroy the earth it is just a theory. As are the people saying everything will be fine, they are basing their predictions of theories. The fact is scientist believe that the chance of anything bad happening is so miniscule that it's not worth worrying about. You really should research the situation, and not only believe things from a few crazy articles that have no bases.

Like all of quantum mechanics, it's all theoretical anyway. Likewise, if anything were to go wrong in a particle accelerator, the result would probably be so unstable that whatever is created would be destroyed almost immediately, if such an event can even happen. So there's no concrete cause to worry, except for the fear and risk that humans always have when doing something so new.
