The Cure - Responsible for the emo silliness

Slayer/Cannibal Corpse - Now I like a few metal bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Pantera, Judas Priest and Motorhead but those are worlds apart from every other band classified as metal. These 2 came along with the horrible screamo growl and have created a disturbing genre of music.

PsychoT4Prez

The Cure is not now and has never been emo. They are a respected band with talent and have influenced bands in various subgenres.

You don't like their music (and thank your for that)....so?

And for the record...emo is a subgenre that started in the mid 80's around DC. Check it out sometime.....it's nothing like The Cure.

all the bands you have mentioned suck real bad....except for pantera.

the cure is a joke, cannibal corpse is not music, metallica=sell outs, megadeat blows, judas priest is ***....literally.

lilburtonboy748

Your opinion is NOT fact. And in the reality.....the talent level is not on a par with your biased opinion.:|

And Pantera is not exactly one of the better bands in existence dude.

I think Cannibal Corpse is the only band I agree with you on. I think a lot of their songs are rediculous and meaningless. I'm not particularly fond of Slayer (with the exception of God Hates Us All) but they are undeniably talented. And as much as I dislike The Cure they defenitely aren't emo.

The Cure are far from emo

emo has taken all honest anxietys and self destructive lyrics from amazing songwriters like Morrissey and turned it into a vile manufactured image

with no substance

The Cure have an honesty and a warmth in comparison to those whiney american bands

First of all, The Cure isn't emo, not even close. Also, there's no such thing as a screamo growl, otherwise it wouldn't really be screamo.

The Cure and emo aren't even remotely related. Slayer was a pioneering thrash metal band, and people who think Cannibal Corpse is shocking music haven't lisened to much music.

Bands that comepletely destroy rock music are the ones that call themselves rock these days...Maroon 5 is classfied as rock for goodness sakes. Also turn on MTV and youll see what is wrong with music today and I am not talking about metal. Im talking about all the bands that have actually devolved and went back to a retro sound.rzepak

Trends are cyclical. Things that were once fashionable years ago come back into style eventually.

Not really my fault. Look at Robert smiths hair its just so weird. And they had a couple of songs that seemed abit eeeeh, other than that not much "emoness" I only like maybe 2 songs so besides the fact that they play something that sounds a bit like rock i dont really know them very well.

Wow, how many of them have you checked out?

a lot....

all i can do is wait for the next tool or pearl jam cd....besides that i've been listening to the same cds for years.

You're just speaking bollox. If Cannibal Corpse only strums their instruments randomly, please video yourself playing Frantic Disembowelment. It can't be hard, yeah?

it's not complex or creative....it's fast

it's crazy how simple this is, like jesus, you could play that with your eyes close, right?

i consider music something that requires talent....not a bunch of tards randomly playing instuments and some guy barking into a mic....they suck.

lilburtonboy748

Then you consider incorrectly. Music is nothing more than purposefully organized sound. There's no requirement that a musician be talented or skilled to create music. And there's no requirement that you personally like that sound for it to be music.

One could place bets on just how many times they would repeat exactly the same short motive. I think you're over-estimating the skill required to do what you see in this link. Yes, it's beyond the capabilities of most people who play electric guitar, but frankly, most people who play electric guitar NEVER get any sort of decent instruction on the instrument, don't practice consistently, and don't know how to practice properly even when they do. So as a result, people look at clips like this and think the playing is exceptional.

It really isn't as difficult as it looks. And frankly, having worked with music and having taught it for years, I can assure you that musical sensitivity is much more difficult to develop than technique. A musician who can play with true sensitivity is worth much, much more than a musician who can play fast, and though it certainly doesn't look like it, playing sensitively demands much finer technical control than playing rapidly... especially when you're playing mostly repetitive motives in closed positions like in your clip.

I can't believe someone said that the Cure were emo, thats reiduclous. Emo bands were influenced by the non emo music of the Cure, the Smiths, etc. and turned it into something completely differnet, back then there wasnt an emo yet.

The Cure are far from emo

emo has taken all honest anxietys and self destructive lyrics from amazing songwriters like Morrissey and turned it into a vile manufactured image

with no substance

The Cure have an honesty and a warmth in comparison to those whiney american bands

Azurr

What emo bands are you talking about?

My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy would be the most obvious ones that springs to mind

Yeah, that's pop-punk, not emo.

I direct you to "three cheers for sweet revenge". Its what I take as emo, along with a lot of other people.

So as a result, people look at clips like this and think the playing is exceptional.

i agree with this guy, although udoubtedly that CC riff is fast and obviously difficult to play, to play with groove and within a wider range in dynamics for example is takes more technical skill than playing a fast, repeating riff.

im not saying however CC players are unskilled.

i'm not over estimating anything. he said it is just playing a bunch of random notes, and basically beating their guitar, and i'm proving to him that no it is not.
