I guess it's a good thing the Sumo tournament was cancelled otherwise they would be right in the middle of the day's matches at the moment the quake hit. Most reports at the moment seem to lack much real detail other than almost everyone's phones seem to not work and they're bracing for a possible tsunami or large aftershock.
