Sky News just reporting that a Tsunami is expected within the next 15 minutes. Really is a terrible situation, thoughts are with all of those affected.

Weren't 220,000 killed in the thailand tsunami? Not saying that to downgrade the Japan one, but it could have been a lot worse.

Weren't the numbers so high because people didn't take the warnings seriously + the fact that the general public is not trained for evac like Japan + Japan has very strict building codes and tech, etc...

Yea, Thailand is a third world country, and the buildings they had were obviously not built very well. What I am trying to say that if it's to hit anywhere it's good that it hit Japan...I know that sounds terrible.. but they're the most prepared, and the death tolls would have been much higher anywhere else.

There was apparently a strong aftershock recorded a few hours ago I believe, and Sky are saying that there's been reports of the sea levels dropping (i think?) which indicates a big wave. Then that was denied and the tremor felt was apparently due to a landslide, but everything is sketchy at the moment.
