John McCain: Palin can beat Obama in 2012.

As speculation swirls over whether former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will enter the race for the 2012 presidential campaign, former 2008 Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain (AZ) said this morning that he thinks Palin can win in a race against President Obama in 2012.

"Of course, she can," Senator John McCain made said on "Fox News Sunday" this morning. "She can. Now, whether she will or not, whether she'll even run or not, I don't know."

I think the idea that Palin can beat Obama in a general election (barring some tragedy in the next 18 months) is ludicrous.Over 55 percent of Americans view her unfavorably while slightly over a third view her favorably. She's appeals to the lunatic fringe of her party, while the independents and moderates want nothing to do with her.

By all means, I hope Republicans vote for her in the primary. I won't bat an eye. However, I think deep down they know better.

But seriously I think a strong female candidate could win a presidential election. Unfortunatley the two potential GOP offerings, Bachmann and Palin don't fit the criteria.

I don't think she'll run, but maybe, it could happen.

I was convinced weeks ago that she wasn't going to run. But now she seems to be making slight moves in preparing herself for an official candidacy. I guess current speculation is that she'll try to time it with the upcoming documentary about her.mattbbpl

Even if she does, it won't matter. I guarantee it's going to be either Romney, Pawlenty or Huntsman who win the primary nomination. I'm hoping Huntsman does because I think he can sway a lot of moderate Dems and independents.

It's quite sad when you think about it that certain people operate with a mindset that would prevent them from voting for a candidate solely based on faith or sexual orientation.

Palin could theoretically win the Republican nomination, although it's unlikely.

I don't think it's even theoretically possible that Palin could win the general election against Obama.

There really should be a law barring old, senile men from holding public office. First Storm Thurmond (who didn't retire from politics until his funeral) and now Mr. McCain is losing it :P

Well if Rick Perry decides to run, i would pencil him as the favorite win the nomination.

If Palin and Bachmann both run, that will be good news for Romney as they can split the fringe vote. I don't think Pawlenty has much of a chance in the general election either way. I don't know much about Huntsman, although I know you've mentioned him before (he's you're favorite, if I recall correctly).mattbbpl

Mitch Daniels was my favorite, and he chose not to run. I liked his stance on having a truce over social issues. I like Pawlenty a lot, but I think Huntsman has the best shot. He's mostly a moderate on social issues(for civil unions and pro-life), he kept Utah financially stable, was a businessman, has the capital to go toe to toe with Obama, isn't boring, and is hella' smart.

Romney is too much of a flip-flopper for me, so I won't be voting for him in the primary.

The only reason why we don't have a female President now is because Barack was the better Canidate. If Hilary Clinton had won the Demo primary, I have no doubt she would of beaten McCain.

Well to be serious for one moment, McCain and Palin have watched closely not to stab one another politcally after loosing 2008. Holding fast to Saint Reagan's "Thou shalt not speak ill of other Republicans." You see how bad Gingrich got trashed for speaking the truth, if McCain did the same they'd be on him like stink on s***.

I think he's doing well within in the confines of what he's allowed to do.

The problem with Americans is their idea of what the President can do is unrealistic. They don't understand our Government. I've seen people go "Obama isn't doing anything so I'm voting Republican" The republicans go "Our #1 Priority is to stop Obama from doing anything" - Do you see the circle?

The problem with America in general, isn't the Executive branch. I think President is fine. What needs to change is our congress and senate.

He's not doing exactly what I'd like him to be doing, but he's certainly doing better than any GOP platform I've heard proposed recently.mattbbpl

The GOP hasn't suggested policy that makes business crap itself(cap and trade, forms for sales over a certain amount, etc). Our unemployment is at 9%. The GOP has nothing to do with that.

I suppose it's subjective, depending on what your priorities are, but he's not doing so well in my book.
