ACLJ Applauds Federal Court Decision Dismissing Atheist Lawsuit Challenging National Motto on U.S. Currency after Dr. Michael Newdow and the Freedom From Religion Foundation brought the lawsuit in federal court to have In God We Trust removed from coins and currency in the US.

The Supreme Court has affirmed that it is perfectly legal to have the motto on the money and the federal judge backed it up again.

Should it remain or should it go? Remember that while there is a seperation of church and state, the motto does not define any particular religion.

I don't see an issue with it being removed from the currency. Some of us don't believe in god, after all.

i really don't care but it is curious that we invoke god on our money.

you would think it would be the religious that would be pissed not the atheists.

i can hardly think of anything more sacrilegious than invoking god on the item i hand to prostitutes, drug dealers and liquor store clerks.

This. Its so stupid. Overzealous Atheists are just as bad as Overzealous...well...Zealots lol. Atheism is starting to seem more and more like a religion, where Science is god. In my opinion, I don't care what it says on the US currency not until the day they tell me I cant use it because of my beliefs. There are far better things to do with my time.

I don't care either way. As an agnostic, it doesn't bother me that it is on the money. I dislike the fact that atheists are so butthurt that they need to take action to have the word God removed everywhere even though it is of little consequence. Saying the Pledge of Allegiance doesn't mean that people are praying to God in school, just affirming their commitment to their country and that is all that it was about no matter what word was added or when it was added.

It's ridiculous that states have had to spend extra money to remove the Ten Commandments from public buildings like court houses and schools when they do not specify which religion that they pertain to.

I don't know why people act like both "In God We Trust" or the "Under God" line of the Pledge of Allegiance is some sacred old American tradition, both have only been in use since the mid 1950s.

there is a theory to these phrases being adopted in the 50s on currency and the Pledge of Allegiance as a means of weeding out communist agents here in the US, that communist agents would who have somehow given America the slip and living amongst us would burst into flame if they touched the holy relic of capitalistic currency with the word "God" on it or spontaneous combust if they recited the "under God" line of the Pledge of Allegiance honestly, the McCarthy era of politics is a shameful mark on American history, if this is a remnant of that I don't know why we're supporting it like we're proud of that

I'm not sure why anyone has a problem with "Merry Christmas" given how it's essentially a secular holiday celebrating materialism and gluttony.

The motto should have never been on the money, but I don't give even one/millionth of a sh!t that it remains on the money. How people can be passionate about this issue one way or the other is beyond me.

I'm sorry, but where was the Supreme Court involvement in this?

In an order issued on September 9th, U.S. District Court Judge Harold Baer, Jr. dismissed the suit and agreed with the ACLJs arguments: The Supreme Court has repeatedly assumed the mottos secular purpose and effect, and all circuit courts that have considered this issue - namely the Ninth, Fifth, Tenth, and D.C. Circuit - have found no constitutional violation in the mottos inclusion on currency, the court concluded.Linked Article

Shouldn't these Atheist guys be trying to abolish something any reasonable person with at least a little common sense can all agree on? Maybe something like abolishing The Westboro Baptist Church?
