According to a report by CBS, Columbus resident Tyler Rigby played Modern Warfare 3 for four days straight before being hospitalized for dehydration.

According to Rigby's aunt Jennifer Thompson, "it's like he was looking at me but he wasn't there. It was like he was looking through me.

"We were talking and I heard a thump and I looked over and he just fell."

"I was very scared. I thought he was going to die", said Jessie Rawlins, Tylers mom.

Tyler is expected to be OK after medics pumped his body full of fluids, but he wont be playing video games anytime soon.

"The Xbox is gone", Rawlins told the station.

Source.

Video.

Ok, I know he was one of you guys.

Atleast the mom actually took away the Xbox. Some parents are too dumb to even do that much. But yeah, I don't understand why she wasn't doing a better job of monitoring her kid. When I was kid, my Mom always told me to get off the video games when I played too long.

lol, no, after about five hours.

At three hours, she would suggest I stop playing. At five hours, she would demand I stop playing and if I refused, she would turn it off right in the middle of my game before I could save.

How the hell did he manage to play MW3 for 4 days straight? I couldn't manage to play it for more than 4 minutes tops. Must be some hardcore CoD kiddie because MW3 is garbage.

No. Playing freaking Skyrim for 4 minutes is even worse than playing MW3 for 4 hours straight

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. MW3, really? Just imagine how much his accuracy had to be suffering by the end of those four days. His KD ratio was probably in the sh*t.

Same with me. I was only allowed 3-4 hours of NES/SNES a day. Then I was forced to play outside. I miss those days of BB guns, bike riding, fort building, and wondering in the woods.

Of course this was in the 80's/early 90's before everyone was convinced their neighbors were pedophiles.

Same here, though in all fairness the kid was 15. When I was 15 years old there's still no way in hell I could have gotten away with a 4 day gaming session, but by that age my parents did grant me some level of independence. As long as I did my chores and kept my grades up, they mostly left me alone and let me do what I wanted.

His parents are morons, why weren't they aware of this? They should be aware what their kid is doing and send him outside or something for a while. They are even dumber for letting a kid play M rated games. The kid sounds like he has an unhealthy obsession with games, perhaps it's best if he doesn't play them at all as he is not equipped to handle them.

While I agree that the parents are dumb for letting this happen, I have to repeat that the kid was 15 years old. Some people here are sort of suggesting that the parents should have been monitoring the kid's activities by the hour. And yeah...if he was like, 7. But by the age of 15, it should be pretty much a solid expectation that he can exercise some level of independence. That's only 3 years away from living completely alone and unsupervised, and the only way to prepare kids for that is to let them practice it. Similarly, why shouldn't this kid have been playing M rated games? He's 15, not 7. That's only 2 years away from being able to walk into a store and buy the games even without his parents' approval. That being said, independence should be given in small doses that get larger as the kid displays his ability to handle that independence responsibly. So there's no way that a 15 year old kid should have been left alone for four days to play videogames (or anything else). But 15 is well beyond the age where someone should no longer need to be constantly watched, and it's well old enough that much of the blame should fall on the kid himself. The parents are at fault too, but this kid was old enough to know better.

And the comments in this thread again.. only in America. Blaming the Parents when the kid is 15? At that age kids are old enough to know when they've played enough etc.

But then again.. only in America.

In all fairness, the parents are to blame too. It's everyone's fault all around. Sure the kid was old enough to know better. But 15 also isn't old enough to leave a kid completely alone for 4 days. They should have been checking up on him and talking to him at least occasionally. Even if the parents assumed that he was spending the entire time studying, you still check up on the kid occasionally, ask how things are going, and don't let him lock himself in his bedroom for 4 full days. It's the parents' fault too.

Eh....parents should still be aware of what their child is doing at age 15. That doesn't mean constant monitoring...but no meals or sleep should have been noticed.
