it will become inevitable either we stop having as many kids or we start killing off or start letting people who are in famine die and grow to a stable population that the environment can actually sustain

No that law will be totally pointless, and do nothing but harm. 1) in places like the US and other 'first world' nations, the brith rate is already lower than the death rate, so the population growth is already negative (not accounting for immigration) and 2) This would ruin the developing countries.

Chaos_HL21

That is not true. In the United States there is one birth on average of every 7 seconds, and one death on average of every 12 seconds. Which means that, roughly, 2 people are being born in the US for every 1 person who dies.

How can there be a limit on how many children a household can have that's just ridiculous.

nickz_fpk
Umm famine says hi. 1/12 children in America says hi. China and Japan also says hi. There's a reason, because there are limits. There's no such thing as unlimited food.

Unconstitutional? I think so.

Storm_Marine

Immoral is more like it.

I don't think limiting the number of children is immoral in the least. I find it to be irresponsible and immoral for people to have large families due to current population levels and resource consumption rates.

The problem isn't that there isn't enough food being produced. The problem is one of distribution and consumption. Half the world doesn't have enough to eat and we're taking a staple food like corn and putting it in our fuel tanks or turning it into packaging for convenience foods.

Oh that is right I was thinking about Population growth rate, My mistake. I think the US's population growth is under 1% (around the same as China's). Some nations have negative, like Japan and I think Germany.

Overpopulation is not a serious problem, over consumption is. We need to continue to produce more green technology. I doubt key resources such as water and food would run out. Water is a renewable resource and one only needs to look towards the Green Revolution in India to see why humans will never be short of food. However, oil, coal etc. will one day run out no matter what the population. We need to find alternate fuel sources and we need to make our technology more green.

Yes. Set the limit to something high that no real parent would realistically reach, like 10. I have huge issues with the people who adopt 15 kids to get money from the government.

Whiteblade999

but what about those who already have money and adopt kids from orphanages or other countries to take care of them? :\

see, thats the thing about more regulation concerning personal decisions... it solves one problem, but then creates 5 more.

Yes. There should be a license before you are allowed to have a child. You should have to prove you are capable of raising the child well and have enough income to support them. This will never happen, of course, so I might as well throw in, there should be a minimum score on an IQ test as well.

ferrari2001

So what would happen if a college student accidentally got herself pregnant and did not have that licence. Then what happens?

How could you give each of those children the attention they need when there are like 20? Past a certain point some would just be ignored all the time which defeats the purpose of becoming a parent for that child.

well my mom was the youngest of eight, and going to visit her family was a blast... everyone looked out for each other, loved each other, and all took personal responsibility so they didn't need tons of attention from mom and dad at 20... you don't have to baby your children after they are 20... and you can still have a relationship... heh. seems like by that age you'd be working or in college? and i think that a dirt pool child who lives in an orphanage somewhere in like South America would be willing to trade their current, hopeless childhood for a chance at a good life... wouldn't you agree?

Forced Abortions, yea that's a wonderful government. So much for a persons precious choice.

Still surprised at how many people are okay with the government taking charge of their lives.

and what are you going to do with parents who choose to not comply with the breeding laws... throw them in jail where they may be abused and beat up...thus turning them into violent criminals... and for what, because they had too many kids? lol... freaking insane man. and yeah, i'd like to see the cops willing to drag a screaming pregnant teen off to have her late term baby aborted...

i think its because in our culture today we are brought up thinking that the governments wants whats absolutely best for us...

George Carlin might have other ideas about the government though...

What if the family can afford to have as many kids as they want?

No, I'm in favor of individual liberty, government should not be dictating these things to folks.

Second, developed counries should be trying to raise the birth rates, not lower them.

1nf4m0us

Why do you say this?

because the birth rates in most developed countries are quite low and lower than "replacement level".

Forget that...let's just make it so no one can have any children until the world population goes down and every child is adopted. Obligatory emoticon. =p
