For those who are familuar with the swedish horror/romance I just recently heard that they are making a US version as well, it is pretty old news but it is new to me, what do you all think?

''Let the right one in''

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let_The_Right_One_In_(film)

The remake or well...not exactly a remake by there standards. The US version will be called ''Let me in''

and I cant even post any links for some reason, I hope the above one works

Oh, I think it needed it. The original has some interesting concepts that could have been executed better. Plus, I really didn't like the casting.

They also need to go into the background of the vampire, like hopefully cover her origin.

But honestly, I'm getting sick of vampire movies.

is the original in another language? If it is that is probably why they are remaking it instead of subtitling it, since most people in america refuse to watch things that isnt of their own language (atleast in the orlando area I live in people are very critical of things that arent english) so that could be it..

I'd like to watch the original before seeing this remake, subtitled if not english.

Nice, I gotta find it.

Edit: I also heard when reading up on this remake some people arent really happy about it being remade since the original is great enough as it is and i'll quote ''remakes are for bad movies'' is what was said.

This, same with a lot of great foreign movies that get remade for no reason, REC was a great horror movie and then they remade it into Quarentine which was garbage.

there is just no good reason to do this

the original was great, and had subtitles. It even comes dubbed (yuck, learn to read folks) with ok voiceactors.

Why remake it? It is such a good, pure, young movie.

From what I read, it is a remake but like different, they arent gonna make it the same as the original, they are trying to make something seperate, I don't really know what that means exactly though but if this movie is great as it is then the ''remake'' doesnt sound promising.

hmm in that case I will give it a chance.

I just hope it is not a prequel; I loved the mystery of her origins, coming to my own conclusions. Havent read the book, problably wont for exactly that reason (does the book tell us where she came from, etc?)

I'm sure it isnt a prequil or sequil, they are hinting at the same setting. Just might be acted out difforently or more closley related to the book than the original. I also heard some subplots were taken out.

Edit: At this point i'm just making assumptions off what i'm reading, we won't truley know what they will do with it till october 1st

There are alot of things the original movie didn't mention in the book like Eli's origin or Hakan's motives. Looking at the US cast, It will likely focus on Oskar's friend and the people surrounding Eli.

Yeah I read the book and then watched the film and was really surprised at just how much it left out, it was quite disappointing. I'm not sure I understand the cult following behind the film really. The book is leaps and bounds better.

The biggestdisappointment for me was how they lightly touched up on what Virginia went through in the movie. IMO her side story in the book was more touching than anything they did in the movie.

Yeah that was pretty crucial stuff, Virginia's story felt tacked on in the film without any real importance. They could have at least made a greater effort with Lacke, who just seemed like a bit of an ass in the film, then he just gets killed and that's that. Let's not forget completely removing the Tommy/Staffan sub plot.

Oh, I think it needed it. The original has some interesting concepts that could have been executed better. Plus, I really didn't like the casting.

They also need to go into the background of the vampire, like hopefully cover her origin.

But honestly, I'm getting sick of vampire movies.

Why do we (the viewer) need to know her origin? I think the only reason this is getting remade is so it will not be subtitled so more people will see it.

Do know the origin of the vampire? I don't know how to do the spoiler thing, but you know you are incorrect in what you said (and I was incorrect in one word I used).

I think knowing the origin of the vampire tells a whole other side story of the character. It's almost like saying 'Why do we know Princess Leia is Luke's brother?' Sure, you can get by with out it, but you'll view the movie in a whole different light once you know her origin.

Did you know what I am talking about?

Because it adds a whole new insight on BOTH the vampire AND the boy! Thus it sheds light on motivations, actions, and overall character depth. Not to mention it adds sympathy, etc. You don't know who you are until you know where you've been (or something like that)

Yeah, but is the "why" still necessary? I dunno, I just felt like it didn't need explaining.

Because it adds a whole new insight on BOTH the vampire AND the boy! Thus it sheds light on motivations, actions, and overall character depth. Not to mention it adds sympathy, etc. You don't know who you are until you know where you've been (or something like that)

Having more information about something doesn't necessarily mean the information is enlightening or crucial to the story, though. That's all I'm saying.

I saw the movie, thought it was OK, but wasn't wow'ed by it the way a lot of folks seem to have been. I don't think it was bad by any measure, but really nothing about it especially stuck with me.
