[QUOTE="Heisenderp"] US, yes, Europe, hell no.pie-junior

I would actually say the line between religion and politics in Europe is pretty clear, yes there are things like the Queen of Britain being the head of the English Church ,but thats mostly ceremonial, and even then , shes not a politician.

I can't think of much cases where religion and politics (or as a product of it, the state) actively mix and translate into policy.

That's what he said, which conflicts with what you said just a post ago. I I don't understand this conversation.

I was under the impression he said Europe was where religion and politics are sometimes mixed. if it is, its a misunderstanding on my part.

although Im not sure what level of religion exists in US politics.

Yeah, it was kind of ambiguous. I meant that Europe is mostly secular now. It would've worked better if you said "as blurred as in Europe" instead of "more so than Europe".

[QUOTE="helwa1988"]The grand mufti needs to read on own religion. Islam says new churches are not allowed to be newly built but churches that are already standing cannot be destroyed. The same goes for synagogues . Please people do not take this mufti in saudi as authority on Islam. Most Muslims wouldn't evn want to live there. The only reason why Muslims go there is because the kaba is there.Darkman2007
I would have thought that as the birthplace and centre of Islam , Saudi clerics would have at least certain amount of influence? or am I wrong?

actually no. it is the birth place of islam. but their shaikhs are not the most influential. most of the shaikhs who are famous and influential are actually non saudi. a lot of muslims see shaikhs in saudi as government scholars. meaning they get paid to make fatwas. like for example they don't women driving in saudi. but a woman getting driven around by a man is perfectly fine there. but islam is clear on it being prohibited for a man and woman being alone together. so they say it is immodest for women to drive but they have no problem with a woman being alone with a man in a car? it is must safer and better if the woman is driving herself. not only that i just had a friend who left saudi (she was working there) because her driver tried driving her out to the desert and raping her. thankfully she was able to get out of the car before he did so. but this is a common thing there where the driver or taxi driver will attempt to rape the woman or sexually harass her.

I see what you mean , a religious figure tied to the government can always be accused of telling the government line though I would imagine most Muslims would have at least a certain degree of Sharia in any Muslim country's constitution, maybe not to the level of Saudia .

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"][QUOTE="Inconsistancy"] I'll tolerate the people of it, but I don't, in any way, see how religion benefits humanity.

Inconsistancy

You don't? Most religious people just go through living their lives and not mentioning anything about their religion. They also believe in helping others and many do donate to charitable causes or volunteer to help others. I'm not seeing a downside to that....

"Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion." -Steven Weinberg

Just 'cause a religious person does 'good' things doesn't mean an atheist wouldn't have in the ~same situation...

That quote is just.... lol

I was just answering the question.

Well,can you name anybody else?

Certainly, George Bush, Barrack Obama, Tommy Robinson (EDL leader), Nick Griffin (BNP leader), Irish Republic Army, Israel and the list goes on. Terrorism isn't just about 'Religions and Bombs' my friend, Terrorism is ' The calculated use of Violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are POLITICAL or RELIGIOUS or IDEOLOGICAL in nature, this is done through intimidation or coercion or installing fear' notice how just Religion isn't what terrorism is about. And I think the above mentioned people satisfy the definition of 'terrorism' through their actions.

He's a "smartazz" for pretty much correcting all your dumbass remarks? I think for the sake of further embarrasment you refrain from posting in any thread that involves the US Military. Oh and by the way that little attempt at comedy was horrible, just saying. Don't ever do that again.

Ruthless dictatorships are good if they let the US do what they want. Democracy is bad if they don't let the US do what they want. That basically summarises US dealings in the ME so far.

"Considering the hysteria that besets the West whenever non-authoritative individuals offend Islam – for instance, a fringe, unknown pastor – imagine what would happen if a Christian counterpart to the Grand Mufti, say the Pope, were to declare that all mosques in Italy must be destroyed; imagine the nonstop Western media frenzy that would erupt, all the shrill screams of 'intolerance' and 'bigot,' demands for apologies if not resignation, nonstop handwringing by sensitive politicians, and worse," Raymond Ibrahim of Jihad Watcharticle

I totally agree with that statement from the article

We aren't trying to change their ways of life or convert them. If they want to destroy all of the churches and be a pure islamic state let them. Only ignorant people believe we are in the middle east fighting Islam.

I think this thread might encapsulate the worst aspects of OT.

Made as an anti US thread, it turned into a big political fight, then a big religious debate (which was more of a big religious fight), then it got a bunch of replies. This just needs to turn into some vegan argument and it will be the worst thread ever made on OT.

[QUOTE="jdc6305"]I was just answering the question.

H_M_1

What the?You label George Bush as a terrorist.....AND Barrack Obama?

You're telling me that what Bush/Obama have done in Iraq/Afghanistan, and what Obama is still doing in Afghanistan is not Terrorism? And now he's sticking his nose in Iran so that his 'wife' Netanyahu can have a pleasurable life with no threats. Have you not read the definition of terrorism or do you not understand it, these guys satisfy the definition of terrorism, I'm not promoting what some Muslims may do because terrorism is just wrong, end of story. I'm just naming individuals besides Muslims who are terrorists, but people turn a blind eye.
