Im looking for a new phone and i was thinking either between the iphone 4 or the iphone 3GS. My friends have the iphone 3GS and dont have any problems with it. The Iphone 4 is only 100$ more and iv heard several things about it. I have heard that it has some problems but im not sure on whats true or not. I have heard its serious problem is the death grip where if you hold it in a certain way the signal bars drop to zero. I heard the only way to fix this is by using a case which apple gives you free with each iphone 4 purchase (not sure if this is true) i heard there were other problems but they were solved (not sure either). Anyways can somone please enlighten me and share their knowledge about this. I would greatly appreciate it, Thanks.

Unless you want talk time on wifi or a camera with flash, then stick with the 3GS.

Do you need flash on your camera? Do you need the latest piece of technology? Do you need 960x640 resolution? Do you want facetime but don't mind it only on wifi? Have you tested the new iphone 4g? (apple surely didn't) Do you need more than 8gigs memory? If you've answered yes to all these minor questions, go get an Iphone 4G. The 3GS is capable of everything else the iphone 4G can.

I was thinking about it, but after reading reviews, comparing specs, watching vids, I'm going for the 32GB Iphone 4. The way I see it, I'm going to have this phone for 2 years, so I want the one that satisfies me the most with features, not price. Not to mention I'm going to use it as my main mp3 player (love my touch, but it makes my pockets to cramped). But I am going to the Apple store tomorrow, checking it out, going to ask a few questions (mostly about the monthly bill).

Forgot to mention, if you get one up till September 30th, Apple is offering a free voucher to 7 different cases, which also solves the signal problem some people are reporting.

I know the signal problem is the biggest problem but are their other problems the iphone 4 is facing or is that the only one?

Customization is gone. Stuck with Apple. Horrible (emphasis on the horrible) multitasking.

can you please be more specific.

You can't do much else other than choose apps and change the home screen. You're tied down to everything Apple, and you're at their whim. The multitasking is the most non-fluid experience I've ever seen. Open one app, and then it's open for the rest of the time. You have to double-tap the home button, then hold down on the screen until you can finally click exit on each and every app that's been opened. Apple's all about ease of use, but that would bother the ever-loving hell out of me on a daily basis.

You can always jailbreak (NOW LEGAL).

As long as you restore the phone, Apple will have no idea that it was jailbroken because it is all software based.

As a hardcore techie, I'd say the processor. The processor (The A4 to be exact) is the same one that's in the iPad, and that thing is a monster when it comes to mobile computing. A hunk chunk of the new features that were added are thanks to this processor.

You want to hear something funny? The Iphone 4's specs are as good as this computer that I am currently using. I only have my 1ghz single core processor, 512mb of RAM, and an 18gb hard drive. The only thing I have better is my 128mb graphics card which was upgraded from my integrated graphics. Go ahead and laugh it up...

so in your opinion you would definetly take the iphone 4 over the 3GS despite its problems?

No, I would wait for the next generation. The antenna being in the metal band that holds the phone together is an absolute engineering flaw and is a horrible design decision. Supporting bad engineering is the wrong message to send, no matter how good the product is. Getting one of those free cases that Apple is offering just ignores the problem. I have a 3GS and it does everything I need it to do and then some.

I think only some people have been having their antenna problems or maybe apple fixed it somehow... It would probably be a decent phone despite the fact that apple is too controlling with their software. A Jailbreak would be recommended. Then they phone would dominate (mostly). I would LOVE to have that resolution in my current phone. Ill probably end up getting an unlocked one someday just because I need an mp3 player really badly.

Why not buy the Samsung Captivate or the HTC Aria? If you want the amazing screen and a lot of it, get the Captivate. If you like a smaller package with a great look, get the Aria. I'd skip the iPhone altogether.dreDREb13

^ This.

My sister just got the Captivate a few days ago.

The screen is drop-dead gorgeous. The blacks are actually black and the colors are bright and vivid. It makes every other screen looked washed out. AMOLED is awesome. Also, the Captivate has the same processor as the iPhone 4. Combined with the GPU, it crunches through over 90 million triangles per second.

That makes it the most powerful phone in the world.

It's also the thinnest smartphone in the world.

And the Evo 4G crunches through 30 million triangles/sec. The Galaxy S (Captivate for AT&T) blows away every other phone when it comes to processing power.

Why would it just be between those two phones? Also, if it's for work it'd be best if you got a phone that didn't have signal strength issues...

it comes with a case which fixes that problem though.

A smart consumer checks out the competition, not just one brand. Just head over to the AT&T store and play with the Samsung Captivate for awhile. You'll love it.
