Right on!
Glad to see this happen, hopefully my state (WI, fairly liberal) will also try to get it passed as well soon, so we can end this stupid belief that gay marriage is somehow wrong enough to be banned.

Marriage itself is such a shame(is this word still used?). I really don't understand why people would want to partake in it, if they didn't feel it was socially unacceptable for them not to...
I am a little suprised. I am happy about it,but as a new englander I though maine would have been the last to crumble, they are the most conservative state here.mattykovax
"Most conservative" doesn't exactly mean a whole lot when you're talking about New England. :P Although I'd say New Hampshire strikes me as the most conservative, though it depends on what one means by "conservative".
Anyway, good for Maine. Now for the other 45 states.
Are you assuming that all the people who are enthused about this are gay Anyway, if statistics from the general population hold, somewhere around 1 gamer in 10 will be gay .Wow. Im quite surprised by the comments on these boards. I had no idea there were so many gay gamers
Xbot_720
And just because we support gay marriage doesn't make us gay either. I wasn't counting but I think I only saw one person say they were gay in this thread.Wow. Im quite surprised by the comments on these boards. I had no idea there were so many gay gamers

Its the internet: you get more liberals for your money. Believe me, there are plenty of religious conservatives on here too.Is everyone on this forum socially liberal, or do the non-liberals simply not post in threads like this? I just find it interesting how most support same-sex marriage.

Pretty much every person I meet is conservative wherever I go in town, but we aren't heavily religious and we're all for people doing things their own way. Basically, we're all OK with this so long as it doesn't affect us, and it doesn't, so, yeah.
I'm glad I don't live in Maine!

Uh-oh, might catch "teh ghey"!
Anyways, thumbs up to America for it's progression
You dont have to be gay to support same-sex marriage... >_>Wow. Im quite surprised by the comments on these boards. I had no idea there were so many gay gamers

Nice try though in presenting it as if the reason why people here vote for it is their personal bias. ;)
Congratulations! :DI'm from Maine!......Just thought I'd throw that out there...

Which is what people usually do when they vote against it.[QUOTE="BlueBirdTS"]The conservatives in this board also support gay marriage. Is everyone on this forum socially liberal, or do the non-liberals simply not post in threads like this? Speak for yourself.
So why do straight couples need marriage to be happy? And whose to say what makes other people happy? Equal rights is a happy thing. This is ridiculous. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Period. Gays don't need marriage to be happy. Civil Unions are enough.

They don't, but thats the way it was made and it needs to stay that way. I don't get why such a small percentage of people in the world get so much attention and demand so much from everyone else. Marriage needs to stay exclusive to heterosexual couples. That doesn't mean I'm against gays being together or anything like that, I just think gays should not have the right to be married.

The conservatives in this board also support gay marriage.Pretty much. I think Pirate700 is probably the biggest conservative and even he does not seem to have a political problem with it.[QUOTE="Famiking"][QUOTE="BlueBirdTS"]The conservatives in this board also support gay marriage.Pretty much. I don't know where you guys are getting this idea. Just because a couple conservatives here don't have a problem with it doesn't mean you can throw out a generalized statement like that. I'm probably as conservative as you can get and I'm completely against gay marriage. This board is just so overwhelmingly liberal, that its hard for some conservatives to voice their opinions because they chastised for it most of the time. This board might as well be MSNBC:roll:.

I am going,as I am sure borbons3 was,on the list of known liberals/conservatives that post heavily in political topics.Yeah, or the Gay Police might show up and make you get gay married!I'm glad I don't live in Maine!

Well, actual, anti-big government conservatives do; neocons do not. Thanks for the distinction,I will remember that next time.I really don't see why people object to this. DrSpongeYou're not afraid of the toads and fire that god is going to rain down upon us?
Good for them. This thread is going to end up being 10+ long with religious debate.

And there we go, ten long pages... hahaha I aint reading it. I think the problem is, the people are not deciding, its the government pushing, or something like that. Its really just an attack on traditional marriage, even the definition of marriage, why cant they just have civil unions with the same benefits? Well one thing, if I get married, I won't use the States system of marriage, but the biblical one.

If its the same thing, why not call it the same thing? This in no way changes religious marriage, because the governmenty has no say in that. It changes the civil, legal definition. And in Vermont, it was done by popular vote.[QUOTE="CommanderShiro"]

The government is ensuring that there are equal marriage rights, that's their job. And 'traditional marriage' was already changed with inter-racial marriage. So, really, marriage today is nowhere near what it was in 'traditional' times.[QUOTE="CommanderShiro"]
