There are a few fallacies in your conclusion. First alcoholism is a disease...and it doesn't affect everyone that tastes alcohol. Second...not everyone abuse alcohol. Third...alcohol in moderation has health benefits.LJS9502_basic

Nah, dude. Alcoholism is not disease, it is a lack of self control. If alcoholism is a disease, then so is overeating, logically. You can't black out on pot and pot doesn't make you mean. And pot has health benefits, too. Anything in moderation is ok, but like I said, you can smoke all the pot you want and you're not gonna wake up in jail with no recollection of how you got there.

Moderation.

it will only be a matter of time before your "moderation" turns into abuse if you use it.

No. I have self control. I smoke weed once in a while. Just because you lack self control doesn't mean everyone else does.

Fact of the matter is you buy your weed from a drug dealer which sells other drugs 'harder' drugs , just being exposed to those kinds of people is bad, and unless you're careful you might end up trying those other drugs.

I have tried those other drugs... And if you look at the facts many of them are less harmful than alcohol. 'These People' you speak of are your equals and where once a little kid like everyone else, you have no right to judge them.

These 'people' chose the wrong path and by no means would I want to be around them, who would?.

its a dependency at a certain point that can give you a disease. Liver cirrhosis is a disease that it can give you. I don't care what the books say. I'm sorry, someone that drinks too much is not the same as someone born with diabetes.

I agree with that. I've been using Marijuana for years, and I'm fine. I can do any activity without mistakes while under the influence of marijuana. Say what you want, but until something actually happens to me, I'm going to keep using it. I have no intentions of moving on to harder drugs because I don't get "high" anymore from marijuana. People only have skewed views on marijauna, because they haven't tried it, or don't have the desire to try it.

Yep, I don't even use the stuff anymore (its expensive), but he's right. The only reason it is illegal is becaue the gov't has no way of taxing it and regulating it. If it were legal pharmaceutical companies (the government's drugs) and alcohol companies would suffer greatly.

I live in BC, which is known for potent pot, but when you smoke as much as I do, even the most potent strain doesn't have the same effet as it used to when I didn't smoke as much.

I wouldn't necessarily say you're "under the influence" when you use cannabis. It's more like, you're holding hands with it, walking side by side. :P

Seriously, that's why people are able to function while the effects are prevalent, even during the peak of the effect, because it doesn't do anything to "put you under" or control your actions in any way. You're still free to think and act as you choose when cannabis is running through your blood. Which is one reason why it's much safer than any other recreational, or even medicinal, substances. You won't morph into a monster like "Reefer Madness" would have people believe...

I feel you on everything else you said, but sorry, California flowers are much better than BC... ;)

So true. Sometimes I say stupid things, and start laughing like an idiot, but I know that I'm talking stupid when I'm talking stupid, it's just fun to do it, lol. I've never done anything crazy while I was high.

Of course marijuana is safer than alcohol.

Not that that justifies its use in any way, or somehow makes its users any better than Al Keyhallic.

Not that that justifies its use in any way, or somehow makes its users any better than Al Keyhallic.

Dracargen

It doesn't need to be justified. There's nothing wrong with it to begin with. Some people don't understand that, but whaddya gonna do?

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]There are a few fallacies in your conclusion. First alcoholism is a disease...and it doesn't affect everyone that tastes alcohol. Second...not everyone abuse alcohol. Third...alcohol in moderation has health benefits.waltw_84

Nah, dude. Alcoholism is not disease, it is a lack of self control. If alcoholism is a disease, then so is overeating, logically. You can't black out on pot and pot doesn't make you mean. And pot has health benefits, too. Anything in moderation is ok, but like I said, you can smoke all the pot you want and you're not gonna wake up in jail with no recollection of how you got there.

lol at alcoholism is not a disease, you should see some of the those people.

its a dependency at a certain point that can give you a disease. Liver cirrhosis is a disease that it can give you. I don't care what the books say. I'm sorry, someone that drinks too much is not the same as someone born with diabetes.

In other words, "I don't understand alcohol, therefore it's not a disease."

First off, alcoholism is not drinking too much. Plenty of people drink too much and are NOT alcoholics.

Secondly, a lot of alcoholics NEVER drink. They won't ever drink the smallest amount of alcohol, and yet they are still alcoholics.

The fact that you think that alcoholism is simply drinking too much shows that you don't even know what alcoholism is, and are in no position to talk about it.

I don't need to. If you actually cared about not sounding like you have no idea what the hell you were talking about, you would have googled alcoholism and then clicked on the first freaking link.

If you want to be willfully ignorant, then that's your right, but I have absolutely no obligation to spoonfeed you the stuff that you would have already known if you actually cared about being informed.

Well...marijuana makes you feel good and the worst thing it can do to you is slow your movements, short term memory loss, hallucinate but only if you smoke alot....etc but as for alcohol...i mean it does not realy make you feel good and even if you hit a peak were it does you get to have a whole fun filled morning the next day with MR.migraine, also it is poison and it has way worse effects. I mean if given the choice i would pick marijuana because atleast with pot you dont have to worry about drowning yourself in your own vomit while passed out.

Of freaking course, I don't frickin post freaking links to ****ing things people could ****ing look up on their ****ing own either. I'm just ****ing saying it looked freakin silly to ****ing berate the frickin guy for not ****ing knowing what it ****ing was and then freakin ending your ****ing post. For ****s sake. Mr. ****ing Geezer.

In all fairness, we're not talking about little known aspects of brain surgery. We're talking about the definition of alcoholism. If someone is so out of whack that they don't even know what alcoholism is, I'm not gonna walk them through it any more than I'd go out of my way to educate someone who thinks that evolution states that life began when lightning struck a mud puddle.

Based on personal experience as well as reading articles online, I've come to the conclusion and agreement that marijuana is indeed safer than alcohol. It's true that smoking pot can cause some memory loss and other relatively small short-term problems, but they are nothing compared to the dangers of alcoholism. I'd like to hear from you guys and your views about this statement: Marijuana is safer than alcohol.

EDIT: Doing neither is safer, duh. But I'm not talking about that case right now.

MrGeezer

maybe so, but i can't smoke weed. i've done it before and used to like it, but after time it's gotten to the point where smoking weed has made me feel like i'm going insane. so really, i don't even care if it's "safer" than alcohol. at least when i drink alcohol, i don't end up curled up under a bush feeling like the entire world is out to get me

Uh, was your weed laced with something? That's not a typical reaction...

Also, as far as car crashes go:

Correlation does not equal causation. If gets into a crash with a very high blood alcohol level, I would say even higher than .08, that the crash was caused by the person being drunk. Alcohol heavily effects motor skills, perception of time, decision making, and a plethora of other things. However, I can't say the same for marijuana. If someone gets into a crash and has marijuana in their system, people seem to automatically say it was BECAUSE marijuana was in their system, but I can't agree with that. Not only is there not NEARLY enough research on how much marijuana needs to be consumed and the effects of different amounts, but as far as I know marijuana mainly affects perception of time, not motor skills or judgement making (at least not NEARLY to the same degree). It is a poor argument either way.

I agree that it is, but I still drink. Of cource I would rather smoke than drink...or just do both. And you people need to lighten up. Pot and Alcohol is not that teribal. If you know how to handle it in moderation you can have lots of fun with it. You just pass out from smoking to much though, you either end up over the tolied or end up dead if you drink to much.
