I say yes. It causes the police far too much trouble, and the restrictions on the growth of medicinal marijuana are ridiculous. On top of that, my friend just started smoking cigarettes. The reason? She has anxiety problems, and needs something to calm her down, but getting ahold of cigarettes is a lot easier than getting marijuana. And yes, cigarettes are worse for you.
Decriminilization would definitely produce most of the benefits, but legalization would decrease the status of marijuana as a "gateway" drug. Buying it in specified stores will keep people out of the illegal drug world and away from persuasive drug dealers. Also taxation would benefit our economy.
Absolutely not. All we need is a society of burnouts to add to our drinking/drunk driving problem. Lets face it, our drinking age is at 21 because of total irresponsible use. Now you wanna add legalized pot to the mix? Every friend I have who has gotten into pot led a definitely degraded lifestyle. You could see it in their work performances, desires, etc. All they cared about was their next chance to smoke up.
It has already been decriminalized here in the Netherlands, but I definitely want it to be fully legalized. Right now we're in a strange situation where it is allowed to possess it (up to a small amount) and sell it in certain shops, but growing it is still illegal.
Also, marijuana use here is around average for the European Union even though it is decriminalized and you can get it in shops. Several neighbouring countries actually have higher marijuana use then us.
Yah I could see it being legal like alcohol. Can't drive on it, can't show up to work stoned, and so on. But at places like a bar for weed or in your own home wouldn't be to bad.
As much as people don't want to believe it, it hsa way too many long term mental effects for it to be a good idea to legalise it. I am annoyed enough at stupid people - I don't want them to be able to say "it's the weed, man" - that is stupidity I find punishable by death...
My reason? Let people **** themselves up. I would like to see my tax dollars being used to better education, or building up the economy, than waste it on these druggies.
Well I know people who smoke and they are neither dumb or lazy. While they do not drive under influence of anything it is quite obvious that they have pretty much the same motor control when high as when they are...sober is that the word? Alcohol to me seems alot more dangerous. Not without a reasons is Alcoholism called a disease. My father is an alcoholic and I think...I know id rather have him high than drunk. So even if not completely legalized something should be done even for the reason that there is no reason to ban it. There are studies talking of MJs harmful effects but there are many more that say otherwise. It is somewhat similar to the violent video games warping kids minds and making them violent argument.
Pretty much, it's silly to lock up people next to violent offenders for pot. It will also be interesting what happens to the drug trade.

Yea, and hemp should be legalized too! Oil companies would lose a ton of money if hemp was legal, and drug companies would lose tons of money if cannabis was legalized. SO we are SOL :(

No, legalising drugs is not the way to go. As soon as you legalise one, then people will say "well you legalised that one, so why can't you legalise this one" and a downward spiral beggins.

Are you serious? I mean yeah it will be taxed, but because of compitition and eliminating the dozens of middlemen doing illegal things to sell you the marijuana (with risk comes increased prices) it will still be less than it is now. Also the government can't make laws like that if it's "legalized" (although employers can obviously reject someone impaired by marijuana).

No, that's not true. And even if some people started demanding more legalization based on that, do you think they'd get the backing to pass it through? I doubt it.
