What say you? Honestly I had never heard of her before.

Odd choice. It would seem he picked her because she's female.... yay?duxup
Probably, and that might be a wise choice.

Same, first I ever hear of the name.
[QUOTE="_LiquidFlame_"]CNN has confirmed it. :)Theokhoth
Um. . . .all that says is that Palin is a potential choice.:|
Did you read the HUGE red banner at the top of the page?
People. . . .it isn't confirmed yet.

I'm just reading what FOX says.
John McCain will introduce Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his vice presidential running mate, senior campaing sources confirmed Friday to FOX News.FOX
Although FOX apparently no longer knows how to spell.
I've never heard of her before... but a groundbreaking pick like this with the potential to get a woman in the VP seat very well might draw some Hillary supporters to McCain's side. We'll have to wait and see how this plays out over the next few days...Cube_of_MooN
It could also be seen as pandering depending on how it plays out. It is hard to imagine a lot of Hillary supporters would run to a pro-life candidate.
Well let's see, Sarah Heath Palin, 44 years of age, former ethics commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, she resigned from that comission due to "ethics issues" with so of her fellow party members (issues that were subsequently exposed), she used this event to platform her way into the gubernatorial election, running with a "clean government" theme she managed to beat former governor Tony Knowles for the position.
So, what we've got here is a relatively young female politician who is known for her progressive environmental policies (in an election where the environment is a big issue) and for fighting against corruption within the government.
I'd say that McCain did OK here.

But most Hillary supporters are already on McCain's side, so that would be more of a waste than anything if it were for that reason.:?

Several Hillary supporters are behind McCain, but most of them?
Surely you jest, my dear man!
Edit: Fixed embarrassing Typo
Interesting move, he's thrown the experience issue out the window.TenP
Not really. You take McCains experiance and mix it with someone who is younger and progressive on many issues.

Yeah maybe. I was thinking that the idea of a woman taking the VP seat under an old President could be tempting to at least some of her supporters, but like you said, it could also be seen as pandering.[QUOTE="Cube_of_MooN"]I've never heard of her before... but a groundbreaking pick like this with the potential to get a woman in the VP seat very well might draw some Hillary supporters to McCain's side. Most? I don't think most of her supporters support McCain. Some do, but I'd say a clear majortiy support Obama. It's not just her plumbing that qualifies her. She ran a grassroots door-to-door campaign to surprisingly win the Republican gubernatorial nomination while Frank Murkowski was in office and seeking re-election. To grasp just how impossible a task this was, consider that the Murkowskis are to Alaska what the Kennedys are to Massachusetts.

McCain would be better off rallying his own base rather than looking to pick up Clinton's scraps.
Nobody knows this lady and it's insanely obvious this was a deperate attempt to steal Hillary Clinton supporters.
It's either an act of pure genius or an act of sad desperation. We'll find out in November.

If McCain trusts someone who is younger and has less experience on the national stage than Obama, then it's okay to have none?
The fact of this is... John McCain is 72 years old and he's had cancer twice, if something unspeakable were to happen would you trust this person to lead you?

I would. I actually answered "Sarah Palin" in an old OT thread about favorite Presidential picks from among those who weren't running.

I'm not saying I don't like Palin, she's a great person with 80% approval rating in Alaska. But I'm just trying to get people to contradict themselves. ;) While it'll bring some independant and undecided women to his side, it may be his damning move.
Odd choice. It would seem he picked her because she's female.... yay?duxup
it's a clever strategy i think. It's an attempt at taking thunder from Obama's historic nomination with his own (if McCain/Palin wins) and if might tempt some really bitter Clinton supporters that don't actually care about the policies.

her husband works for BP(an oil company) i don't know if i can trust more republicans on environmental policies, esp. when they have a personal connection like that.
Odd choice. It would seem he picked her because she's female.... yay?duxupI think he picked her because he realizes that he needs Hillary Democrats in order to beat Obama in the fall. He's hoping that a woman choice will draw away those democrats who supported Hillary who still haven't warmed up to Obama. She's young, good looking and from what I've heard (which isn't much) reasonably smart...but comes with some problems. Namely, the first thing about a VP choice is that you're supposed to pick someone who is ready to take over and be president at a moment's notice. This is particularly important when you're McCain's age and have a history of serious health problems. Most of McCain's election strategy thus far has been to try and paint Obama as too experienced to lead this country during troubled times. This VP pick really undercuts that argument.
wait wait wait. So now GS members that went against Obama choice saids this is ok? Why? You have someone who is experience and someone who isnt. How is it different?Tjeremiah1988
Could not the same be said about Obama supporters who rip on McCain for his age then applaud Biden's experience?

This sounds like weak Damage Control.

That would be a shame that Hillary supports would go Republican just because the VP is female.

Not at all. I thought the Biden pick was brilliant because he brings what Obama has been accused of lacking. And I think the the Palin pick is equally commendable for the exact same reason - she brings what McCain has been accused of lacking.

they show signs of them not knowing what they want. But I dont see em going to the Republican side which goes against anything they believed what Hilary said when she was running. Right now they are probably all giddy, but that will quickly fade.

Meh, a lot of voters vote based purely off personality. Not saying it's right, but that's just how it is.
Edit: Man, that sounds redundant.
