[QUOTE="Cube_of_MooN"]I've never heard of her before... but a groundbreaking pick like this with the potential to get a woman in the VP seat very well might draw some Hillary supporters to McCain's side. We'll have to wait and see how this plays out over the next few days...DarKre

That would be a shame that Hillary supports would go Republican just because the VP is female.

[QUOTE="Tjeremiah1988"]wait wait wait. So now GS members that went against Obama choice saids this is ok? Why? You have someone who is experience and someone who isnt. How is it different?Oleg_Huzwog

Could not the same be said about Obama supporters who rip on McCain for his age then applaud Biden's experience?

This sounds like weak Damage Control.

Not at all. I thought the Biden pick was brilliant because he brings what Obama has been accused of lacking. And I think the the Palin pick is equally commendable for the exact same reason - she brings what McCain has been accused of lacking.

yea well, the age debate wasnt as talked about or issued as the subject on inexperience. Though McCain does have health issues.

Well good for him going outside the box, but her anti-abortion stance won't win any of Hillary's votes.

Horrible choice i think, maybe he forget the point of the election is to win. I think she is to unknown and has little experience which is going to hurt him when the dems go on a backlash about his criticizing of Obama. He could of and should of made a much better choice, and without a doubt Biden was a much better choice as a vp then she was.

can someone explain to me how this is a good idea. I mean yes, its cool a woman is picked as a choice for V.P but not many know of her and its late August. Also, how can McCain think this can somehow lead Hilary supporters onto his side (c'mon, everyone knows he was thinking this)? Right now I know a lot of woman are giddy but I see that quickly dieing down 2 weeks from now. I just heard shes pro life and against gay marriage (though I agree with her on that matter).

He should have made this choice before this week, at least. Hilary Clinton fully endorsed all her delegates and is going to campaign for Obama now, if he did it earlier Clinton's supporters wouldn't feel so left out. Also, as said before, McCain singlehandedly thew out Obama's inexperience factor. Not only that Palin is under an ethics investigation, right now, if she were voted in she could abuse her power.

The good of all this? I suppose one, the increased woman support, possibly the younger vote. Also, when Biden attacks hard on McCain during the veep. debates, he might have to roll his attacks a bit on Palin or it will make him look like a bully. Still, going with a random, risky choice against an established choice like Biden is going to put McCain down a notch.

Until this year I didn't know who the hell Obama was. Her status as an unknown doesn't mean very much. I'm pretty sure that no man would be stupid enough just to pick a VP for more Hillary supporters.:|

Both McCain and Obama oppose gay marriage on a personal level, not legal. McCain is pro-life, and I'm relieved he picked a pro-life VP (he was considering a pro-choice VP).

Cripes, I read about that when reading an article about Alaskan politics. I didn't put two and two together and remember her name.

I'm not sure why you'd pick someone with a recent issue like that out there.

That's for the conservatives that had their doubts about McCain. Obama/Biden are very liberal so that's not being to open-minded on their parts either. As for as the political game goes, this was a very good move on McCain's part because it covers alot of bases.

Not sure how this reaffirms McCain as a maverick. He picked an extremely conservative VP choice who is also under investigation for questionable ethics. As a bonus, she has less experience in public office than Obama has. What about this choice, other than her being a woman, shows any sort of departure from Republican orthodoxy? I'll grant you that it shows some boldness and courage on McCain's part, and he's to be commended for taking a risk. That said, the definition of a Maverick isn't picking someone who agrees with the Republican party platform on pretty much every issue.

Morning hokies. I thought I might see you here. :) Don't you think this undercuts the "Obama is too inexperienced to be president" argument that McCain is trying to make? After all, no matter what you may say about Obama's experience, it is quantifiably more than what Palin has. McCain is closing in on 72 years old and has a history of cancer. If, god forbid, he won the election and died in office...do you really think this woman is ready to be president if you don't think Obama is? I make no judgments at this time about her qualifications. I just don't know enough about her yet to do so with a straight face. But speaking just about the election politics of the matter, isn't this going to hurt the argument McCain is trying to make?

Mccain has lost my vote. He picked an unknown governor from ALASKA just because she was a woman, over Mitt Romney, the former governor of Maseuchettes and a self-made multi-millionaire. this is pathetic on the part of John Mccain and the Republican party, I am ashed to call myself a conservative republican.

Mccain has lost my vote. He picked an unknown governor from ALASKA just because she was a woman, over Mitt Romney, the former governor of Maseuchettes and a self-made multi-millionaire. this is pathetic on the part of John Mccain and the Republican party, I am ashed to call myself a conservative republican.bungie93
yeah because I would run to Obama....now there's a conservative voice.........
