[QUOTE="duxup"][QUOTE="Eltroz"][QUOTE="duxup"]

[QUOTE="Omni-Slash"][QUOTE="duxup"]McCain is 73 years old. If something happened to him (health or otherwise) we'd get someone who was Governor of Alaska for two years...Eltroz

The alternative for President being a Senator of only a few years?.....I'd rather have womone in control who's had to run something.....

I'd go with the dude with more experience, the Senator in this case.

As a govenor she has more experience. A senator is just a law maker. She actually managed a state and a very very large state. FAR more goes into running a state then being a senator. Also she was mayor for 2 terms she has more experience then he does.

Yes a lawmaker, in Washington, where the president works, where you get national security briefings, and such. Not a small population state.

it is silly to debate. There is no way someone can honestly say a person that says yay or nay on bills every couple days is greater or the same as someone that has to deal with day by day operations of a state. Most of the time Obama did not even say yay or nay he just voted present. Just saying your present does not work when your a govenor.

Absolutely you can. Obama works in the environment he is planning to work in, Washington. Dealing with similar issues. The Governor of Alaska is nothing like the Presidency. I would take a Senator's experience any day.

look at her resume. then look at the resume's of all the other people that were on the short list. she is a gender pick. She's young, is an unknown with NO foreign policy experience. this is coming from a guy that said foregin policy issues are the greatest issue of our day.Dreams-Visions

I don't know what I'm worried about more, McCain's trigger happy foreign policy or his VP's lack of foreign policy.

. . . .Do you even have any support for the claim that she was only considered for her gender?

Is that a serious question? :|

Her foreign policy experience has been dealt with in this very topic. . .

lol. I can only imagine. Because her being in charge of the Alaskan National Guard serves as meaningful experience?

you're trying hard to not acknowledge the issue. other conservative here...

honestly mccain is an idiot.

he should have picked Mitt Romney. At least then it would have been somewhat worth voting for him.

Im definitely decided on Bob Barr.

this angers me.

That is exactly what I am thinking.

Oh my, the sexist "gets it." He also "gets" that "women are the cause of all America's problems today."

It has been dealt with. You seem to think Alaska is somehow isolated from the rest of the world.

hai guys!

can't wait until this picture makes its rounds.

Dreams-Visions

MSNBC is gonna jump all over that one. I wonder how they can make it negative though.

the McCain team will scream Photoshopz.

It could be photoshoped.

lol. because Republicans have never worn a mini-skirt? that's her man. and it's not a new picture. fact. it's just that now that she'll be under a kind of scrutiny that doesn't come from running...in Alaska. lol.

These days you never know, anyways like I said earlier, how can this be a negative thing?

With the conservative Republican base? The church-going crowd? srysly?

Pretty much the only reason I need to vote for McCain is right here!

Terrible idea. Most of the Hillary supporters have cooled down by now. People were saying the same thing about disillusioned republicans voting for Kerry in 2004. Look how that worked out.

that's because he is. but this is his only chance now.

the question is whether or not Democratic-leaning women will now vote their gender instead of their issues.

We'll see plenty about who America is this year.

My sister says that McCain actually has no problem with abortion.

Quote: He used to be the guy that said "I don't like abortion but I'm not going to take that right away." Now he just says he doesn't like it because he wants the conservative vote

So what do you guys think?

Palin is a great choice. To be honest, I didn't know much about her before she could have possibly been the running mate, but after reading up on her and listening to her speech today, she is a fantastic choice. I didn't even know hardly anything about Obama either before he was in the running for president.

Personally I like the choice. I also loved hour hours afterward the Obama campaign released a statement saying Palin has no foreign policy experience, and McCain has put her a heartbeat away from the presidency. They must have forgot how Obama has 0 foreign policy experience, and he actually wants to be presidency. Something tells me who ever the spokesperson that cleared that statement is probably going to be fired.

Um, you brought up her foreign policy experience, not me.

I'd rather enjoy reason instead of blind speculation.

Reason: there are plenty of other candidates of a similar age with similar credentials that are better qualified.

While Biden's traits complement certain Obama weaknesses, he's different enough that he isn't that susceptible to attacks that Obama has directed at McCain. Palin, on the other hand, is practically the picture of inexperience, and McCain has rested on that argument to say that Obama is unfit to lead.

Quibbling over exact amounts of years and the importance of different types of experience aside, Palin isn't the most qualified candidate out there. If McCain puts her as his VP candidate, as the person who will take over for him should he be unable to serve (a not-unlikely possibility), how can he reconcile that choice with his attacks on Obama's inexperience? It's an enormous difficulty that his campaign will have to surmount.

The only big upside from this choice for McCain, besides her conservative record (which could have been found in a number of other, more experienced candidates) is that she is a woman, and that could exploit rifts among the Democrats created by Hillary's primary run. It's the strongest reason to choose her over her competitors.

Does that reasoning make sense?

I believe I've already said that the "little experience" argument has never really appealed to me. . .Abraham Lincoln had poor experience as well. So I don't think that alone would make Obama, or Palin should the situation arise, a terrible president, so I think McCain's campaign will have to cut back on that argument.

As for Hillary supporters, as people have said, her strong pro-life support would turn her off to quite a few Hillary supporters, since Hillary was very pro-choice. Do you not think that the McCain party realised this before the Internet teenagers?

[QUOTE="The_Mac_Daddy"]Palin is a great choice. To be honest, I didn't know much about her before she could have possibly been the running mate, but after reading up on her and listening to her speech today, she is a fantastic choice. I didn't even know hardly anything about Obama either before he was in the running for president. Unforgiven2870
Yet you think she's a fantastic choice based off of one speech?Still don't know anything about her lol.

Ok, that's cool. I like how you just completely disregarded the part where I said I read up on her. You cherry pickin' son of a gun, you.

I just went to the Mccain website, and now have all the proof I need to show that she was picked solely because she is a woman.

"Hillary put 18 million holes into the glass ceiling...but it turns out the women of America aren't done yet and we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all!" - Palin today.

Now imagine the field day Republicans would have if Obama had said that about black folk.

But I'm sure it'll be okay now.

Nice try Im not a Fanboy.....We still don't know much about her,i do know i don't trust her since she's married to a guy who probably rakes in more in 20 seconds than we would in 20 years lol.I still find it funny he'd pick someone who's under investigation in her own state.

Now your just making baseless statements, and she has the highest approval rating of any governor of America.

Thats another reason why i don't trust her......

So.. you don't like the fact that ". . . Palin's tenure is noted for her independence from big oil companies, while still promoting resource development.[11][13] Palin has announced plans to create a new sub-cabinet group of advisors, to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions within Alaska."

And it's her husband that has a job at an oil company. How is that wrong?

I'm not going to defend Obama, but at least he won the Democratic nomination by winning millions of votes, Sarah Palin was just simply picked from a group of people.

I don't know a lot about her, however, I have relatives in Alaska who absolutely love her and say that she is very popular. She apparently had a big hand in cleaning up corruption within some members of her own party...corruption exists in both major parties but it's rare to find a whistleblower.

What a load of crap. Her husband is a commerical fisherman, not a Big Oil CEO. He, like many fishermen, works a second job during the offseason.

[QUOTE="sonicmj1"]

Theokhoth

I believe I've already said that the "little experience" argument has never really appealed to me. . .Abraham Lincoln had poor experience as well. So I don't think that alone would make Obama, or Palin should the situation arise, a terrible president, so I think McCain's campaign will have to cut back on that argument.

As for Hillary supporters, as people have said, her strong pro-life support would turn her off to quite a few Hillary supporters, since Hillary was very pro-choice. Do you not think that the McCain party realised this before the Internet teenagers?

The McCain campaign could never have gotten all the Hillary supporters without sacrificing the conservative vote. But that doesn't mean that courting some of them is impossible. Part of Obama's mission at the convention was to demonstrate himself as a supporter of women's rights, declaring that he would fight for equal pay for equal work, to attract the women who voted for Hillary because they believed in women's rights and a female president. This pick is a counter to that move, an attempt to tell women who voted for Hillary because of that 'glass ceiling' that she was putting cracks in that a vote for McCain would be a vote for the future of women's rights, solely on the virtue of putting a female in the White House, in a position to become President.

I'm sure the McCain campaign was aware of the obstacles, but they were also aware of the upsides despite them, and that's why they made the choice they did.
