Lesson One: Listening to music on a phone should never happen.I don't know what their called. I just hear a friend of mine play this crap music from his phone. Screaming and Distortion.

As far as I'm concerned most metal is for kids. Especially Death/black and all that stuff. I don't know enough to comment on the state of the genre, though I know many are trying to get a more mainstream voice/lyrics.

Why do you say that?
Are you refering to Death or Black Metal? It's the next level up above Heavy Metal...in a nutshell it's Louder Heavy metal.I don't know what their called. I just hear a friend of mine play this crap music from his phone. Screaming and Distortion.

eh i disagree
Core >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gore
other way around No I didn't make a mistake i honestly like metalcore betterAbout 40 years ago an English band called Black Sabbath created a new genre of music. This genre is called Heavy Metal. This genre was so new, so original that Black Sabbath built up a massive fan base. Most of which were teenagers at the time. Their parents listened to Jazz and Funk or whatever. It was too heavy for them. Heavy metal over it's 40 years of existence has branched out into many sub genres. Thrash Metal, Punk, Grunge, Progressive Metaland many more different sub genres.
But Metal is falling. After 40 years it has become nothing but distortion and screaming about death, sex and anti-religion. This is pathetic. And so metal is decaying and falling to pop music. Which is even more pathetic. And with the recent death of Ronnie James Dio, A heavy metal LEGEND it's not going to get any better. Unless the next generation of heavy metal musicians have something NEW! to offer the genre it's going to become a thing of the past.
The metal we hear today has no distinct qualities. It's just this band trying to be as good as all the other bands, and so they end up sounding almost the same. There's no creativity involved. This saddens me to see metal die. I want to be able to enjoy newer music. But I can't unless new bands actually offer something original.

Don't mistake a bunch of pre-pubecent kids for the general metalhead populus... :)Clearly the Metal Militia needs to get its act together.

There will always be Metal Bands, but every genre has a prime, and as such, has a fall as well.
I respect Metal for giving me the music I enjoy most (Even though metal purists have a hissy fit at the mention of the genre), but again, Metal IS dying in a sense, but everything dies.. (Or at least Ages, if "dies" is too strong a word for you)
It's not dying lulz
But in terms of orginality and heaviness, at least the way I see it anwyay, it peaked with Strapping Young Lad.

Wow a Metal head with a clear and conscious notice of Metals current music scene and atmosphere, surrounded by more narcissistic cliche groups not willing to expand the music to its fullest creativity and capacity, just to continue the iidea of being the outcast. Funny that the so-called "indie" scene is going through something very similar. But for what its worth, I don't think I will ever hear this again in my life time. :P
LionsBridge
There are plenty of bands willing to expand their horizons. The problem is that everyone's perception of metal is the cookie-cutter deathcore and metalcore bands which are the closest metal bands to the mainstream.
I agree Ragek. Whenever I mention that I like Metal to someone they immediately think its all about cookie monster vocals and satanic lyrics I dont think that at all. In fact how do most people, their are so many sub-genres in metal now its hard to imagine anyone generalize it. Though I do agree that metal fans are stereotyped often. That doesn't change the current Metal scene though, its lame that the current connotation of metal is, "your either in or your out."
We need to secure the keys of metal. Once that's done we will execute step 2 Ascend from darkness and all the rest follows
Step 3. Rain fire
Step 4. Unleash the horde.
Step 5. Skewer the winged beast.(Disney)
Step 6. Wield a fist of iron.
Step 7. Raise Hell
Step 8. Freedom.

Why do you say that?
The lyrical content.
So let me get this straight, you do not even listen to metal? If you do a little bit of searching you'll find all kinds of great bands with different themes. Metal is far from dying.
Metal is in great shape today, as are many other musical genres.
The problem is that the music business discovered that good music is not needed to make a profit.
They manufacture their own garbage and market it to the masses, who won't lift a finger to seek out good music and thus only listen to what marketers put in front of their faces.

Why do you say that?
The lyrical content.
Reality suspends my present life.
Curious thoughts, I confront my mortality.
Uncertain to the laws of the unknown.
I have no fear in facing trials of the mind one by one.
Sifting through ossuaries of creation.
Looking for a worth, is existence pointless?
Perceptive to the truth, I never may return.
Resistance falling short, I sever all my ties one by one.
Vanish into the unseen origins of infinity.
A pleasant swim in the seas of dormant ecstacy.
A state of being I could spend with all of eternity.
Suspended above the remains of what I used to be.
I can see things not capable of imagining.
The explanation of my mind has progressed me endlessly.
Things that once were illusions have become reality.
I perceive now what was never clear to me.
Unwelcomed kind.
No way to overcome, I'm disadvantaged prey.
My way back has been erased.
Torn from my bliss.
No longer bound in flesh, a dismembered soul.
Helpless to what I can't see.
Unwelcomed kind.
No way to overcome, a disembodied soul.
My way back has been erased.
I must focus on what I can't see.
Things done to me, I cannot explain.
Falling further from myself.
To give in would end all my pain.
Subconscious misery placed unto me.
Is their meaning to this life?
To break away transparent light.
The end is clearer.
Pass through the mirror.
I fade into the sky.
Hanging in the balance.
Drowning in the afterlife.
Suspended in Tribulation by Suffocation
Yea, the lyrical content is for kids.

Yeah that's true. I actually like disturbed. Their the kind of band that'll hopefully save the genre.

I guess to an extent, but I'm still occupied with all the old school metal bands, I don't have time for the new ones.metallica_fan42Anthrax rules!!!
Slipknot is the best metal band around. If you haven't heard of 'em, check them out. You'll be glad that you did.Hopkins_J
Ha ha ha... Good joke.
ummm haha, metal has never been better. If you like classic bands like that, there is a huge revival of that going on. Try Striker, Reverend Bizzare, Baroness, and Kvelterak (spelling might be wrong.)

No for real man... No other band captures the essence of stellar music quite like Slapknut... Err I mean Slipknot.I think the European metal scene is doing quite well. Check out some bands like Sonata Arctica, Edguy, Stratovarius, Falconer, etc. etc. Clean vocals, great riffs. I like some screaming every now and then too. "Heroes to Us" by Kalmah is one of the best metal songs I have heard.red12355
So many great bands coming from especially Sweden and Finland right now.
