Really? Like five people like anything passed Justice. Apparently, hair length has something to do with musical talent. :?
...AJFA and K'emA Where both great album (even through the poor mixing/production.) Puppets kidna sucked and RTL had a few good songs on it.
no one thinks new metallica is better. metallica rode the dave mustaine riff mobile until they ran out of things to steal, then they started their musical decline with master of puppets, and then with and justice for all they attempted to be prog / technical / try a lot of stuff and it backfired on them with the exception of the title track and one. shortest straw and harvester of sorrow being two of their worst pre black songs.nimatoad2000
Many of the riffs are Dave's, yes. But some of their most renowned work came from Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets. Those in which Dave had wrote very few riffs for.
if you want to know why master of puppets was not only the decline for metallica, but thrash in general because it because so generic / samey with every band copying the other. go to metal archives, and read the master of puppets review by ultraboris. he sums things up almost perfectly.
in a nutshell what he says is that master of puppets brought us the metallica that slowed things down, dropped the technicality, and made things more mainstream accessable ( lars and james had already tried to get a hit with escape off of RTL.. no wonder its one of their worst pre black songs) thus in doing so they showed many lesser known bands, with their sucess, that you do not need to be making albums like peace sells, or shred like yngwie to become popular. metallica showed other bands that being mediocre, but accessable ( not too heavy for normal listeners) was the way to go to become popular. and thus out the window went musicianship. now my summary is nowhere near as well written as his. but his review is like 3-4 pages long :P .

RTL and cthulu are both daves, if you listen to the horsemen of the appocolypse demo, RTL with dave playing sounds way better, especially the spider riff section, you can find it on youtube under "RTL dave singing" , its not dave singing, but it is dave playing) those are the best songs on RTL. MOP is a meh album. orion is a brilliant song, but that was entirely cliff's work.[QUOTE="WushuFighter"][QUOTE="nimatoad2000"]no one thinks new metallica is better. metallica rode the dave mustaine riff mobile until they ran out of things to steal, then they started their musical decline with master of puppets, and then with and justice for all they attempted to be prog / technical / try a lot of stuff and it backfired on them with the exception of the title track and one. shortest straw and harvester of sorrow being two of their worst pre black songs.nimatoad2000

Even though he wrote much of their old stuff, they still would have made it on their own without him. Half of RTL, MOP, and their self-titled album reveal that fact.
i've been listening to a lot of them lately. i love the ride the lightning album, ride the lightning is probably my favorite metallica song. i'm also digging blackened and dyers eve right now. i don't give a crap what riffs dave wrote, good for him, he can stroke his **** that much bigger if he wants, i like the songs and that's all i care about. i'm trying to learn to play ride the lightning on guitar. the solo's kind of hard for me, but i'm getting there.
RTL and KEA were decent. Master Of Puppets just copied RTL in structure, but Cliff knew what he was doing for the most part when he stuck to the formula. AJFA was mediocre at best. Weak bass, guitars chugging along, same old Lars beating away savagely and without an ounce of ability...it's boring, simplistic and gets old very fast. At least the old albums had more elements to them. It kept them interesting...
From then on I barely recognize Metallica's existence. I'm not a big fan of them in general though.

making it =/ good i'm sure that if you turned on the tv or radio right now you would understand what i mean. also in the early days, james didn't even play guitar live and lars did not even know how to assemble / disassemble his drum kit. dave held there hands and carried them, the main attraction of metallica was dave. its not like james' voice is very great, or lars is a master drummer. dangerious dave was just that, dangerious and unpredictable, top that off with his amazing riffs and shredding ability, the guy pretty much invented thrash or at least perfected the sound. exodus and overkill were around already when metallica started up, but their early sound is nothing in comparison to hearing even the earliest verison of the mechanix. the fact is metallica already had an entire first album thanks to dave, thats why they got rid of him when they did. the half of RTL that they did have, and the songs they stole from their earlier bands ( kirk stole creeping death from exodus) gave them a second album that even i will admit is better than the first. but with MOP you can see the decline, they ran out of material, slowing down the pace and dumbing down the technicality, there is much more "chug" in MOP than RTL, chug being slow / mid paced up / down tremelo picking. like in the beginning of disposable heroes. besides that MOP is imo a mediocre thrash album, its got its great songs ( battery ,dmg inc , disposable heroes and orion) but overall it does not, nor even when i was a metallica fanboy, keep me coming back. also their self titled album is trash. a perfect word for it, taking the H out because they were no longer a thrash band, although arguably you can say with MOP they stopped being thrash due to the speed / aggression change.solo is hard because its a dave solo ;) try to learn wake up dead next!i've been listening to a lot of them lately. i love the ride the lightning album, ride the lightning is probably my favorite metallica song. i'm also digging blackened and dyers eve right now. i don't give a crap what riffs dave wrote, good for him, he can stroke his **** that much bigger if he wants, i like the songs and that's all i care about. i'm trying to learn to play ride the lightning on guitar. the solo's kind of hard for me, but i'm getting there.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic. If you are, my bad. If you're not, :|.
I don't think anybody thinks new Metallica is better than the old one. All the albums up to Load were great. From there on they kind of went down. I like Death Magnetic though; their best album in a while. I just hope they get back to playing like they did in RTL and MP. They still put on awesome shows but James doesn't have that intensity in his voice anymore. Something about him blowing out his voicebox or something.
No vocalist will have the same voice in his forties that he did in his twenties. It's just something that comes with age.

no one said it but we are on gamespot forums...its obvious that around 90% of OT loves GH3 and its obvious that they always play that song...no one said it but we are on gamespot forums...its obvious that around 90% of OT loves GH3 and its obvious that they always play that song...lightleggy
It's not obvious. You're just making a massive assumption.

Seriously though everytime a band changes their hairstyles/lengths then **** goes down. Metallica, Arctic Monkeys and Kings of Leon are good examples.

Old Metallica great, then St. Anger came and that was a monstrosity, Death Magnetic brought back old Metallica for me. :)
I prefer Metallica's older music, although I've found the more I listen to metal, the softer Metallica becomes. Now, listening to bands like Cannibal Corpse, and The Black Dahlia Murder, I find that Metallica is slow and light compared to everything else. I find myself more and more inclined to skip a Metallica song. Still, that being said, Master of Puppets is still a great song(And album), and the song "...And Justice for All" is one of my all time favourite Metallica tunes.MisterCyotieThey tried to get heavy again with DM. Here's hoping the next album goes back to MP and RTL style.

IT IS obvious...No, it's not. Guitar Hero III came out what, three years ago? Saying that 90% of OT plays that game and always play One is a statistic you've pulled out of thin air.
RTL and MoP are better than anything else they've done.
During Reload they started sucking but they've redeemed themselves with Death Magnetic.
And for the record I like RTL better than MoP.
