Meteorites seem like a stoppable event. Just give us a few more years and we'll be pretty safe and secure form their threat.
sune_Gem
100 meter ones, maybe.
Giant hulking monstrosities miles in width, I doubt it very highly.
I wouldn't be surprised if in 300 or so years we could just vaporize them into dust.
The best we could do is break them up into smaller chunks and lessen the damage and spread it out across the planet. I don't think we'll ever be able to simply destroy them with no casualties. They couldn't even predict this one to hit
[QUOTE="Samurai_Xavier"]It isn't that asteroid that was suppose to pass. This is different. Yep the asteroid and the meteor apparently aren't connected in any way however that is way to much of a coincidence to have that happen. This was a pretty bad call...
Oh and it says it was the size of an Olympic swimming pool. After it was shot down it must have impacted much smaller. Probably wouldnt have killed humanity, but still....

isnt that asteroid passing in 2029 1 mile wide?.[QUOTE="Kcube"][QUOTE="sune_Gem"]
Nah, after 2012 came and went (the big one) I don't think I'm going to pay no attention to the others.
My mind was at a 20% likelyhood that it may occur. Now I don't think there's ever going to be a 1% chance, unless noteworthy scientists say so.

Don't get me worked up. :|
i was wrong about the size.http://www.space.com/622-asteroid-chance-hitting-earth-2029-watched-carefully.html[QUOTE="sune_Gem"][QUOTE="Kcube"]isnt that asteroid passing in 2029 1 mile wide?.Kcube

i was wrong about the size.http://www.space.com/622-asteroid-chance-hitting-earth-2029-watched-carefully.htmlThe odds of it hitting are slim to none. The article says as time goes on, it's expected that the odds will be lowed to zero.Saw some footage of that. Pretty insane. Interesting that a lot of the people driving around had no clue or missed the gigantic smoke trail and fireball above them.
So was this part of that meteor that was passing close by us or was it a sepperate occurance that we just didn't know about?Serraph105I think it was separate. I heard about that meteor, too, though. The one that was supposed to miss us by 15 minutes. It supposedly passed closer than some of our satellites. Scary thought.
A user on here asked if I heard about Metroids hitting Russia. Confused me until I managed to decipher meteor out of it.
Dat sonic boom....ouch....
wis3boi
Holy sh!t :o I would literally scream like a b!tch if that happened above me. That's soem movie type stuff
Also a satellite image of it. Not much but I find this stuff fascinating
[QUOTE="Samurai_Xavier"]No it wasn't. My bad, this was a completely different meteor coming from the other direction. What are the chances!?This was a pretty bad call...

i missed the stream. it was irony that russia was blasted on the same day that asteroid was passing.made me a little nervous.[QUOTE="lightleggy"]vid looks like crap tbh.Goyoshi12
What were you expecting?
James Cameron cinematics with JJ Abrams light spectacles followed by Micahel Bay explosions?
Well...yeah, honestly. :PNo biggie. Tunguska was a lot bigger 100 years ago.
You probably think this was a sign from aliens though don't you.
NASA says the airburst of the asteroid was a 300kt explosion.
Good thing it exploded at 30km+ up in the atmosphere and not a few km up over a city.
Squeets
Yep. It would've killed thousands.
