Mexican Drug Cartel hires hackers, captures member of Anonymous

Shortly after the hacking group Anonymous threatened to expose the Zetas drug cartel on youtube, it's now being reported that the Zetas are hiring their own computer hackers to hunt down Anonymous members.

"We have seen reports that Los Zetas are deploying their own teams of computer experts to track those individuals involved in the online anti-cartel campaign, which indicates that the criminal group is taking the campaign very seriously. Those individuals involved face the risk of abduction, injury and death — judging by how Los Zetas has dealt with threats in the past."

"This higher skill-set means that Anonymous could contribute to the effectiveness of the online struggle against the cartels or at least bring more publicity to the issue. It's important to remember that the U.S. has been engaging in its own electronic observation of the Mexican cartels for years. Anonymous likely won't be able to turn up more information than the U.S. government already has, but they are able to publicize more information than the U.S. government can.

If Anonymous is able to increase the effectiveness of online operations seeking to expose cartel activities then that makes them and other anti-cartel bloggers in Mexico much higher profile targets than before.

Anonymous is not an organization. It's important to remember, it is a loose association of individuals. It's not the group itself then, but the individuals involved, who become targets of the cartels."

Which is why I said in another topic that they have balls for even attempting this. It's one of the best ways to put your life at risk.

It kinda hilarious and scary at the same time. Mexican anonymous members aren't taking part because they are too scared. I wonder if we are going to start seeing headless nerds on the news

Also all these hired hackers would need to do is track down just a few members of anonymous. After the cartel decapitates a few anonymous members I think the rest would be too scared to do anything to retaliate.

This is going to be a rather interesting turn of events.

Considering most of the guys taking part in this are from the US or other parts of the world, and that the cartels really only have reach within Mexico, I don't see anon being in too much danger. Not to mention that if they did attack citizens of other countries in other countries, the consequences would be pretty severe.gameguy6700

I was going to post something similar to this. The cartel would have to have a station wherever anonymous members came up. That in itself would be an almost impossible task, but even if they did somehow find out the members names and attacked them, they'd be pretty much destroyed by interpol.

I know its a joke but I highly doubt they can do anything. Anon members are spread all over the world. The Cartel is in Mexico.
