I hear a lot of different views on this and decided to see what OT thinks about it :D

I personally think money is everything, and if not, it can help you get anything you want (like personal trainers to get into shape etc)

What do you think? Answer the poll and leave a comment!

It really does. People who argue it does not will point at all the unhappy rich people who kill themselves or have depression but those people would have been like that with or without money.

Saying it doesn't would be like saying water does not put out fire and fire does not burn things that are flamable. It makes that much sense.

money in and of itself doesn't make you happy. it buys you temporary happiness and makes your life easier.

Making your life easier means it's easier to form the relationships to people/things that make you truly happy.

It's a means to ends, but the mean itself doesn't necessarily make you happy. My own father is more concerned about making more money and investing it, but he doesn't wanna spend a dime on himself. Personally don't think making money makes him happy either, just gives him something to do, which i think that MAY be what makes him happy. The feeling of being useful.

Which is gonna suck when he gets into old age. :(

P.S. form relationships meaning bonds, marriages that are financially sound tend to stay together more then financially troubled ones. the money doesn't buy happiness, just makes it eaier to get it.

It just buys you everything you need to be happy. Directly or indirectly it does buy happiness. At the very least it makes being happy 4329834289478342834 times easier.

Anyone who has money and argues any different is more than welcome to give it all to me so i can do a better job with it.

Anyone who says it doesn't make happiness a lot easier has either never been poor, or has always been poor.

You can't have a reliable car without money, you can't get a good education without money, you can't take care of a girlfriend of family without money, and you sure can't eat well without money on top of all these other things. Simply the peace of mind you can get from not having to worry about when you'll get your next meal is something that someone who has never had to experience that worry can't begin to comprehend.

Usually when you have money in such a case as being a millionaire, it only attracts a lot of gold diggers. I rather have a girl who wasn't like that and just love me for who I was and not my money. Just who I am though can't say that everyone else wouldn't care or do something else.

Too much money is just a recipe for depression. Life is fun because it's challenging. If you could just have whatever you wanted, whenever you wanted it... things would just get dull. Sure, it'd be amazing for the first few days/weeks/months, but once the novelty wore off, there'd be nothing left. We enjoy things so much more when we've earned them and had to put in effort to get them. That said, money definitely can buy you happiness.

I can see that being true for people who have always had money and who have never known a life that was not like the one you described. For people who have experienced the other side i would think having that memory of how bad life was before would be enough to keep them appreciating the fact that it wasn't like that anymore for multiple lifetimes at minimum.

I just can't fathom how i would ever be bored or depressed with infinite funds. Material things yes. I can see those getting old. It would be the life experiences and memories you could afford to have that would never get old. You could do something new every single day if you wanted.

Depends entirely on what you want. Having money makes it easier to achieve what you really want, and I wager that having what you really want isn't going to be that great if you're dirt poor and struggling through life.

Money is everything. Don't delude yourself.

The only thing is the more money you have the more leaches you'll have trying to suck it out of you.

All people really care about is what benefits them.

If you benefit them they'll be your friend thats how it is.

I won the lottery (1.25 million) and suddenly people I knew from highschool that I hadn't talked to in 15 years are acting like my best friends. Relatives I used to see once a year at Christmas suddenly want to visit all the time. Theres women whose life goal is to find a rich guy and get knocked up and marry them. Seriously thats their plan in life and they research potential rich bachelors and hunt them down. Just look at hugh hefner. Do you think all those b-otches are there for his good looks ?

Money can buy happiness, depending on your values. If you greatly value material things, money makes acquiring material goods easier, and can increase your happiness. If you don't value material things much, money would have far less utility for you.

Money buys me food. Food makes me happy. Ergo money makes me happy.

Money buys me video games. Video games make me happy (most of the time anyway). Ergo money makes me happy.

Money buys me a ticket to the movies etc. etc. etc.

Money DOES buy happiness. Not everything that makes one happy has to be bought, but I'm assuming most people have something they purchased with their own money that they have thoroughly enjoyed.

No one thing can make you happy. Rich people often confirm that it doesn't. What it does do is that it eliminates worries about money, which most of us experience, as a source of UNhappiness, thus raising the total aggregate level of happiness.

It does and doesn't depending on the context. Is that so hard to understand?
