Violence in America is not due to weapons, it's due to multiculturalism.

Lots of countries have very free gun laws, and low murder rates.

It's because they have a cohesive culture, they are one people.

We're not one people.

We're a fractured republic.

Guns here would result in an initial bloodletting and possibly genocide, followed by peace.

Where is this?

UK. You can get guns but you have to get a licence first. The only people who get those are farmers and hunters.

Interestingly, though, the UK has a higher crime rate than the US. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/7922755/England-has-worse-crime-rate-than-the-US-says-Civitas-study.html http://www.heuni.fi/Satellite?blobtable=MungoBlobs&blobcol=urldata&SSURIapptype=BlobServer&SSURIcontainer=Default&SSURIsession=false&blobkey=id&blobheadervalue1=inline;%20filename=Hakapaino_final_07042010.pdf&SSURIsscontext=Satellite%20Server&blobwhere=1266335656647&blobheadername1=Content-Disposition&ssbinary=true&blobheader=application/pdf

I did specify gun crime. I'd rather my house be broken into, then be shot.

The gun crime rate in the US is 40 times higher than in the UK.

Well, yeah.

Like you said, less people have guns.

So, there's going to be less gun-related crimes.

There is a town in Georgia that made gun ownership a law....

Crime rates actually dropped(to be fair they were low to begin with.

In contrast look at DC ban fiasco(rates skyrocketed after ban)

In my opinion, more guns in responsible hands=less crime

Though high employment and low poverty are biger factors to less crime....

I've heard many people claim that the laws only prevent law abiding people getting them, and will have no effect on criminals.

Not true.

More guns would likely mean more gun related deaths. Crime is influenced by multiple factors, but I've never seen any studies showing that guns decreased crime.

Whether or not guns decrease crime (and I don't think they would), more guns must surely lead to more crime-related deaths.

You could argue that that's what we have here in Australia - all police officers have guns, and very few other people have guns. It seems to work fairly well - our gun crime rates aren't completely awful down here.

Come to think of it, I've never seen a gun outside of a police officer's holster (besides that one time I went to a shooting range).

Laws only affect those who abide by them. "Banning guns" is only banning guns from those who abide.

I think the legalization of guns would be a win/lose situation. Everyone could carry a gun, thus have a somewhat equal advantage over eachother and the ability to prevent crime, but there will definitely be an increase in the number of deaths via firearm IMO.. Or will the would-be criminal realize "hey, my ass might get shot if I try something stupid?" Who knows? I think we can only try it out and see.

Sure, a homeless person might be tempted to rob a bank, but he'd risk getting shot by pretty much anyone else carrying a gun, aside from the gaurds. It's the fear of retaliation that would serve as an equilibrium.

The only downside is if someone doesn't have that fear and they just decide to take someone out point-blank, which I'm sure would happen every now and then.

The only studies I ever see focus on gun crime rates, not the overall crime rate. I believe if there are more guns there are more crimes involving guns, but crime rates stay relatively the same. I could be wrong on that though.

It makes sense though. Crime is much more associated with income levels than anything else.
