Cloverfield. Terrible. Just terrible.

I almost forgot about Napoleon Dynamite. I don't know how anyone could have liked it
Napoleon Dynamite is a lot like beer. It's an acquired taste. First time watching it I thought 'WTF is this?' after a few days of thinking about it, the movie slowly grew on me.
As for Star Wars, I just don't find the series mind-blowing and it doesn't help that Lucas basically stole the outline of the hero monomyth and just put it into a new universe. Yes there is some good stuff in it and they aren't bad movies in the least, but damn I cannot understand why people would tote them as some of the greatest sci-fi films ever.

I've learned over time that Star Wars and Harry Potter are alike in how they're both quite generic and borrow standard archetypes. Except in Star Wars, they had some badass art directors, and in harry Potter they have shambled creativity.
Both are widely acclaimed, but neither are anything special. Just accessible and entertaining.
My choices for overrated movies recently...would probably be Superbad, WALL-E and Michael Clayton.

I'd say the main problem with the Harry Potter movies is that about half of each book DOESN'T make it into the film.....
The films are alright, but I must say I definitely LOVE the books.
Well no offense to you guys out there, but I hate it when people call the Dark Knight the best film of all time!.

Agreed, even though I enjoyed it, I left the theatre laughing at how over hyped it was.

All three of those movies are great in their own right. I absolutely agree with you on Harry Potter and Star Wars though.

The reason for Star Wars and Harry Potter's success is that they take typical archeotypes of heroes and villains but make them their own IMO.
how is fight club overrated!? no one knows about fight club it didnt win awards or anything
anyway Iron Man was okay but not as good as everyone said it was.
also, 300, it was meh..and everyone made it sound like the best movie ever.
i dont think Titanic was even close to being the most overrated movie ever, maybe overrated but definitely not most. i know many people hate on it but it was a very entertaining movie. i actually really like it and i enjoy watching it. the dark knight is not overrated,http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/ the people have spoken, the hype was justified, because of the hype, people went into this film more critical than usual, and its surpassed many expectations.
i would totally agree that babel was overrated, but crash was a really good movie. it had a great script and good acting.
im gonna say...
Gone With the Wind
lol i don't know why i think that, but i watched it once at my grandma's house, and i thought to myself, are you f*ing kidding me? do they really expect me to feel sorry for a bunch of slave owners?! pff. and when you look at the highest grossing films of all time, adjusted for inflation, that movie is #1 by a landslide. it grossed well over a billion domestically by todays dollar value. that has to be seriously overrated.
many people call The Dark Knight the best movie of all time because its really their favorite movie ever, thats understandable in my mind.
also Napolean Dynamite, i dont get how people enjoyed that it was so dumb.Bauers-Twin
It was minimal and epitomised the contemporary trend of surreal humour in a subtle and entertaining fashion.
Napoleon Dynamite... if that's recent enough... if not... The Departed I guess...
EVERYONE DIES IN THE MOVIE IT"S F***IN CRAZY
I don't see how Superbad is overrated. Great performances from both main actors, the juxtaposition between them is fantastic. A lot of the jokes I found quite funny, like when they're ripping into McLovin's fake ID. :lol:bradleybhoy
'Well I'm going to Dartmoth(sp?) where the girls are half as smart and thus twice as likely to felatia me.'
