Yea so today I went to Dennys... because Dennys is beast.

Anyways after I ate, I happen to walk into the bathroom at the same time with the guy that waited my table.

After I was done taking a piss I went over to wash my hands... I had looked up in the mirror at myself and saw someone walk behind me from the stall and it was the WAITER. BASICALLY HE took a piss and didnt wash his hands!

I Practically threw up in my mouth alittle because this is the guy who served my plates and my Drinks. I'm THINKING WTF!?

So I go back to my table where my buddies were and I told them whats up their was 5 of us and we left without leaving that fool at tip.

HAVE YOU GUYS EVER SEEN SOMEONE DO THIS!!?!? GOD. WHY DENNYS WHY?!?!

You realize the waiters don't cook, right? Even so, that's fairly gross.

I hate Denny's. I went there once with family, waited over an hour fod our dinner, and it was cold when they brought it to us...

...Not to mention the people that get shot at the Denny's here on occasion.

It took that for you not to tip? Ask a waiter/waitress why you should tiup them when you don't tip anyone else. Most the time they come up with 'well I bring you your food and deal with you' Yeah sure they do that, but that's what they get paid to do. People break their backs at McD's and all those nasty places cooking and serving and no one tips them.

Next to finding out the truth about Santa Clause, this is one of the most traumatic truths you will learn. I'm sorry your hygeine innocence had to be broken at Denny's, but it's true everywhere. My condolences.

People at McDonalds make about $7 an hour. Tipped waiters make about $3 an hour.

:|

Furthermore, if you've ever been to a halfway decent restaurant, try coimparing the service you get there to the service you get at ****ing McDonalds. I think it speaks for itself that when you go to McDonalds, you EXPECT crappy service, and when you go to a fine restaurant for an anniversary date with your girlfriend, you EXPECT good service.

THAT'S what tipping does for customers.

If the restaurant is so good and prices all their food high, they should put some of the money towards paying their waiters. I know waitresses who make $9/hour and they got mad when they found out I don't tip. If the job doesn't pay good enough then they can go find something else like everyone else.

Whatever, dude.

YOU WERE EATING AT DENNY'S.

Let that sink in for a minute. You were actually eating at freaking Denny's, and think that Denny's should set the bar for food quality and service quality.

And yeah, if Denny's is your idea of good eating, then by all means don't tip. Because Denny's is exactly what happens when waiters can't make money off of tips, and/or can't get jobs at good restaurants.

We're not talking about someone being rude or messing up an order, this is basic human hygeine. I don't leave the bathroom without washing my hands even if I'm not going to be touching food for hours- it's disgusting.

Well considering the original story wasn't me, no I wasn't and no, I wasn't talking about only at Denny's. Are you trying to tell me that just because the food is more expensive somewhere that I should be tipping someone who simply brings me the food more? Sure they split tips up but what's saying they won't pocket it, or rip off everyone else. I don't think it matters where you're eating you shouldn't have to tip. The more expensive the food, the more expensive the owner is, and to me that means the more they can pay their employees. Then the fact about how it seems EVERY waiter thinks they're entitled to a tip, and give you a dirty look when you don't.

Waiters get an hourly wage + tips.
Wouldn't be legal to just leave it as tips, unless it's a highcla ss resturaunt with huge tips.

The reason they get paid so little is because the tips make up for it...

Waiters get taxed for tips, even if you don't leave them one.

Basically, if you ate where I worked often, and you didn't tip, you would get horrible service from me.

This is the kind of attitude I mean, look what tipping has created. If you don't like what you're getting paid why not go hassle your boss like everyone else has to? If they don't budge then get a new job. I have to deal with tons of angry customers throughout a day, and have to do what they want for the most part to keep them happy. I can't be an ass to a customer just because I know I'm not getting a tip. I can't be selective out of regulars as to how I'm going to treat them, and not many other people really can if they'd like to keep their jobs

Hassle your boss? Where do you work? At places like Denny's, hassling your boss to give you a raise would likely give you a terrible work schedule, loss of hours, and possibly getting fired. Waiters won't be jerks to regulars that don't tip, because they will get fired for it, but they certianly won't bend over backwards to make sure they're served in a timely manner.

Haha, tipping makes me laugh.

Its a straaaaaaaaaaaaaange American only custom, anyone who asks me for a tip can kiss my ass. I've worked that line of work before and never gotten a tip, probably because if you asked for a tip in my country you'd get a hook in the ball sack; but thats not really important.

So you didn't leave a tip? Haha! Good one! Thats sure to leave a lasting hurt on the poor little waiter.

Cmon damnit, get his ass fired! He deserves it for getting caught not washing his hands. I mean, I NEVER wash my hands at my work unless the manager or his cronies are looking, but I don't get caught; and it doesn't matter if you don't get caugh don't ya know?

By the way, what is the rate for tipping? Is it 20%? I can't remember the figure. Oh, and do you have to tip for all types of service? Like if you buy an item/appliance/object at a store do you need to tip the cashier/salesman? If so thats F'd up.

When I say hassle you boss I don't mean like that, I mean ask him for one say why you should have one etc... If you're doing a good enough job to deserve all this tip money then why shouldn't you be allowed to ask for a raise, I would certainly give one of my key employees a raise if they threatened to leave. I just don't see why it should be the customers job to keep employees happy. And I'm a ASM for a video store that also does cell phones and internet, so I'd imagine I have to deal with tons pricks whining about phone bills because they didn't read small print, or people who arguing late fees so I know exactly what the customers are like. No one tips me for helping them though

You fail. LOTS of countries tip, it's usually automatically added to the bill. And, if you would have read the whole thread, waiters and waitresses make WAY below minimum wage, they live off tips. Also, I highlighted the part of your post that makes you disgusting.

They get paid LESS than minimum wage, and are required to give EXCELLENT service.

What do you not undersrtand about this?

Yes, they could settle for minimum wage. But if that were the case, it'd be easier for them to go to McDonalds, where they could give crappy service, NOT bust their asses, and still make minimum wage.

What do you NOT understand about tips ensuring that the customer gets good service?

Well TC, at least be thankful he had the urge to take a piss AFTER he served you your food. I don't agree with you not tipping him however. If he gave you good service and wasn't a prick or anything to you and your friends there's no reason why you shouldn't have left him a tip. After all, if you hadn't caught him you would've never known and tipped him anyways right? Plus, if it bothered you so much, the better thing to have done would've been to notify the manager and let him know what you saw and let him/her deal with it.

RiSkyBiZ-13

You fail. LOTS of countries tip, it's usually automatically added to the bill. And, if you would have read the whole thread, waiters and waitresses make WAY below minimum wage, they live off tips. Also, I highlighted the part of your post that makes you disgusting.

Oh my ass is perfectly clean, I use toilet paper.

Wait, damnit, I meant that I don't wash my hands before I start work. Of course I wash my hands when I go to the toilet.

Lots of countries tip? BULL****. VERY VERY FEW countries tip, inside of the commonwealth or ex-commonwealth nations tipping is not part of the culture. Its highly uncommon in Europe. Its HIGHLY uncommon in Asia.

IT IS an a largely American dodad. It serves no purpose.

And by the way, thats bullcrap about waiters making their wages off of tipping, unless you are using illegal mexican immigrants or Japanese robots. There is no way that could be legal. Minimum wage means MINIMUM WAGE.

Waiters and waitresses make approx. $3/hour. Why is this so hard to understand?

2 things here. First if you don't tip you're cheap scum period. Waiters make there living off tips. Most of there hourly wages are eatin up with taxes. Even if they don't get a dime in tips they are forced to claim a certain percentage of their sales. If you don't tip you are hurting that persons income big. Also most waiters bust there tails. It isn't easy work.

Second my brother currently runs (GM) the #1 grossing Denny's in Texas. When he hires someone he lets them know about washing their hands. That's the first and only warning. If they're caught not washing them they're fired no questions asked. My family is opening a new Huddle House (a lot like a Denny's) within the next 4-6 months. The same policy will be used. That's just a horrible truth about eating out though. Luckily waiters don't (atleast they're not suppose to) touch the food. Most good cooks are good about it though. Which is where most of the concern should be.

Wow this thread is funny.

First off, some of you guys have severe germ phobias. You know how many times you've probably eaten food that was prepared by hands that haven't been washed in a while? Too many times to count. And you never got sick, or rarely do. The whole danger of germs thing is way overblown. Your body has an immune system to deal with those things, and we are constantly bombarded by microscopic germs and bacteria all day long. And we're still ok. There's mold spores flying around outside all day long that you breathe in all the time. Wonder why you sneeze and cough? For the hell of it? No. Your body is reacting to those airborne "pollutants" and rejecting them. Your body does it's best to keep itself clean without you even thinking about it.

It's funny how you didn't think about the germs that were on the seat you sat on, or on the surface of the table where you probably placed your hands or elbows. Or on the handle of the front door when you walked in. You honestly think all the germs get wiped off or killed when they bus a table? Besides, all those germs come from your fellow humans. You're the same species. They don't have any germs that you don't have, or that you haven't dealt with before. You're not gonna die.

PLUS, what's the big deal about washing your hands after you piss? I always wash my hands after a dump, but all I touch when I piss is the surface of my jeans and the zipper. And the waiter only touches the bottom of your plate and the server tray. The cooks are the ones who need the cleanest of hands, and that's only if they're preparing uncooked foods! You know that all the germs are killed when something is cooked right? Even if I made you a pizza with dirty hands, when it comes out of the oven, all those germs have been destroyed.

...? I don't want to insult you here... but... waiters do make WAY below minimum wage, their earnings are tips.

RiSkyBiZ-13

I've never heard of that. All the full-service restaurants around here pay their employees minimum wage.

The more expensive the food, the more expensive the owner is, and to me that means the more they can pay their employees. Scarface_tm431

What? The more expensive the food, the more it costs the restaurant to begin with. Denny's is cheap, because the food is cheap quality, and it doesn't cost the restaurant much. If you go to a steakhouse, the prices are higher, because the price of premium beef is higher, costs the restaurant more, and they pass the expense on to the customer. I thought everyone knew that.

That is really disgusting! This is one of the reasons why it's never good to eat at fast food or other restaurants.

Dam straight. But I think that they should probably wash their hands after pissing or taking a dump, incase anyones watching. Its kinda nasty to see someone not wash their hands.

It took that for you not to tip? Ask a waiter/waitress why you should tiup them when you don't tip anyone else. Most the time they come up with 'well I bring you your food and deal with you' Yeah sure they do that, but that's what they get paid to do. People break their backs at McD's and all those nasty places cooking and serving and no one tips them.Scarface_tm431
Take it to heart that I find it very hard not to flame you very harshly. Also, go try being a waiter, learn how little the restaurant pays you and how hard to can be to continuously serve food, keep a smile on your face, and not drop anything. :|

I delivered pizza for Pizza Hut about 10 years ago. I made minimum wage, plus tips that needed to be reported (which I didn't always do, hee hee). I don't know where you guys get these ideas.

EDIT: Oh I just realized, it may vary from state to state, but here in California, every worker must be paid at least the minimum wage, no matter what. It's the law. Maybe in your state waiters actually get paid $3 an hour...and that's horrible! Wow, I would never do that job if it was like that. You guys making $3 an hour are getting hosed!

I don't know about pizza delivery guys, but waiters and waitresses around here make about half of minimum wage. They're expected to make the rest with tips.

Maybe some stores do it differently? I worked at a pizza place. Delivery guys made 4.50 an hour.

I've been a waiter as well. I made 2.26 an hour. They HAVE to pay you enough to cover taxes, and that's it, I believe.
