Although gaming is super fun, it's important to balance our lifestyles with exercise too. You may not neccessarily become invincible like you can in games, but feeling physically / mentally better through exercise is always a welcome change. So...

Favourite exercises / routines?

Your bodybuilding / fitness goals?

On any weight gain / loss diets?

Links to good resources?

Ways to get motivated?

And is fitness through gaming, such as Wii Fit, real fitness?
(would've been its own thread, but the answer is pretty obvious to me)

We got a treadmill a while back and that thing works wonders for me - lost ten pounds (well, 14 actually but gained 4 back since the beginning of chocolate and cookie season). I also do a full body weightlifting routine three times a week.

The way I stay motivated is that the treadmill is actually pretty fun - it's got pre-programmed routines so it's going faster and slower, inclining and going back down all on its own. I put the TV on and pay attention to that if I want. For weightlifting I keep the routine short. It's better to do a modest routine and stick with it than go all out and quit.

Favourite exercises / routines?
Too many to list/name (well more work than I want to do as GS does not allow user uploads in threads like other forums)

Your bodybuilding / fitness goals?
Cutting ATM for beach trip next month

On any weight gain / loss diets?
My diet is pretty specific/regimented....but tailored to 'me' (so probably not much use to others)

Links to good resources?
Without knowing your goal, I would have trouble linking you to something specific

Ways to get motivated?
If you are not internally motivated, then you are doomed to (longterm) failure IMO (as far as a lifestyIe change/something more than a temporary 'fix')

And is fitness through gaming, such as Wii Fit, real fitness?
I do not.
Though they can work for some things (depending on one's goals)

Favourite exercises / routines?
Shoulder press and bicep curls

Your bodybuilding / fitness goals?
To gain A LOT more weight, which I am currently finding extremely difficult and slow

On any weight gain / loss diets?
Not on too strict a diet, but I try and get as much red meat and chicken into me as possible. Protein shake after workouts and before bed

Links to good resources?
Bodybuilding.com, maxs.com.au

Ways to get motivated?
Personal motivation, it's beach season

And is fitness through gaming, such as Wii Fit, real fitness?
(would've been its own thread, but the answer is pretty obvious to me)
Good for cardio and maybe some core, but nothing like weights/gym

Advice for what goal? I would find it hard to link to anything/everything I have found to be useful of the years. I am always looking for something to add/change and have been lifting for almost 15 years = way too much info to cram in w/out any parameters

There are options other than gym, like boot camp courses, but if time is an issue for you then it's a no go. Are you asking how to tone up at home without machines? To me, toning / bulking at home is very difficult. I'm sure there are plenty of people who do it successfully, but personally, I need to be in a gym environment, especially if I'm serious about results. But that's just me.

I hear you loud and clear. For example, at the moment you're cutting up. Anything you've found that's contributed to your success in this area. It could be a website, one diet program, a particular set of exercises that you do, some that you give up, a certain amount of cardio per week. To be honest, I always take resources and advice with a grain of salt, cause everyone has different wiring, you do what works for you, but it's interesting to hear what other people do that works for them.

reduce caloric intake (not by a lot, but 'enough') interval weight training (supersets) increased core work increased number of body weight exercises done

Same applies, can't achieve anything at home. Even if I had my own gym in my house, I need to be around other people who are training, builds the character, but I could just be talking crap. :P

Favourite exercises / routines?

Deadlifts and pullups.

Your bodybuilding / fitness goals?

To stay lean/in shape. I workout 3 times a week, the other 4 days are boxing and jiu-jitsu ****s.

On any weight gain / loss diets?

Once I start fighting professionally for sure, but for now I just aim to stay lean (hoping to debut at 185).

Links to good resources?

bodybuilding.com, but some of the best information I've found is through youtube (Lee Hayward, Scooby and Elliot Hulse).

Ways to get motivated?

I'm self-motivated at this point, I don't really need a strong push to get myself out there as it's been part of my daily life for so long.

And is fitness through gaming, such as Wii Fit, real fitness?
(would've been its own thread, but the answer is pretty obvious to me)

Sure, I imagine it is for some people. Cardio is all about getting your heartrate up and keeping it consistent.

Favourite exercises / routines?

my favorite exercise is probably shoulder shrugs or dips, i dont know why, they just make me feel good :P

Your bodybuilding / fitness goals?

have a six pack eventually, its wayyy easier said then done however, going from being obese to that level of being in shape is difficult

On any weight gain / loss diets?

i had a pretty strict weight loss diet last year, ended up dropping around 80 pounds

Links to good resources?

one site which i referred to regularly was caloriecount.com

Ways to get motivated?

self motivation is the strongest type of motivation, i firmly believe that. having a personal trainer and that kind of stuff can help, but what happens when that person isnt there?

And is fitness through gaming, such as Wii Fit, real fitness?
(would've been its own thread, but the answer is pretty obvious to me)

fitness through things like wii fit is a very very low intensity form of exercise, it is possible to lose weight by doing that kind of stuff, but then its possible to lose weight by eating big macs to

toning without machines is possible, its just more tricky, i know that there is a sort of training which only uses your body weight as a means of fitness, doing chin ups, dips, things like that

Not to be 'that' guy (that goes against everyone).
But it is actually really easy to tone without weights/machines. I just find adding mass to be difficult without them.

Here are some example vids

Favorite? Squat and bench. Goal? To get better. Diet? Yes. I don't eat junk food. Links? T-Nation.com Bodybuilding.com Ways to get motivated? It helps to have a reason to get in the gym besides looking pretty. Wii Fit? Yoga is real fitness and it includes that. If that's what you want to do, go for it.

The problem I have with internet boards about fitness is they make it seem all or nothing. Unless you're doing some strict regiment of workout you can never improve.

Personally I just spend about 2-3 times a week on a treadmill running 20 minutes. That with some basic pushups and situps relguates my weight. If I was serious about losing wieght I would stop drinking soda/alcohol but I'm not.

By "standing," do you mean military press? I've been working towards doing those more often. I decided to strengthen other areas besides shoulders first, like back/chest/legs.

[QUOTE="BranKetra"][QUOTE="achilles614"] Agree with you on the squat except swap out bench for standing press :) Damn you and I have pretty much the same answer, so this ^

By "standing," do you mean military press? I've been working towards doing those more often. I decided to strengthen other areas besides shoulders first, like back/chest/legs. .

yeah kinda like the military press except my feet are hip-wide instead of close together (which is what I was taught how a mil press was). The standing press is a great total body exercise not just for your shoulders, you can even make it a push press to involve your legs some. A college football player recently gave me some good advice he said to focus on 3 things if you wanna be serious about weights (in this order) 1. Get your core strong 2. Get good at BW exercises (push-ups and pullups) 3. then focus on your numbers for the big lifts. I was recently watching a show about US prisons and I noticed A LOT of the guys are jacked and I mean have better physique than the guys on tnation...sure some of them have a gym but not all prisoners do, and their diet is complete crap. It really makes you rethink all these barbells and machines we use. Sadly my weight lifting is on a hiatus prob until the new year everything from my right shoulder blade to my right hand is screwed. I'm sticking to BW exercises with caution for now. I really wanted to hit 2 45lb plates on each side for the squat and 3 a side for deadlifts but I doubt that will happen (my repping for squats was my BW at 160lbs and 205lbs on the deadlift not awesome but for a beginner decent). Whats your PRs and your BW? and hows your routine look?

As far as exercise and techniques, I take advice from people who either are in shape or were in shape before a disability. If you want to be the best you have to learn from the best. That said, the player you talked to gave you good advice.

Prisoners don't have much to do, so I can understand that some of them spend plenty of time working out. Prisons have fights and other violence, so it's more of a necessity than the average person. Regardless, I haven't ever seen someone in prison look like this.

Simply because they lack the nutrition.

-Do you mean person records? I haven't ever maxed out, but I am in shape and can squat 225 easily. Could always be better. Bodyweight 220 lbs.

Routine-5 day split. Currently developing a new plan.

Oh god it's that picture that's in every single tnation article from back when (before the site got updated with nice graphics I guess they threw some pics into old articles). The guys in decent shape 6'6" at 300 something lbs, he played offensive tackle so he's pretty strong. I have that same mindset about taking advice, but you go on tnation you should know that plenty of the authors aren't in good shape. Like this guy for example http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/most_recent/hardcore_hinging_for_hamstrings you never know someones reason for their physique. It was a natgeo show on prison life I think like one of the first episodes of the series. Some of the guys were ripped but not big, but some were huge and jacked. They have terrible access to quality food (powdered eggs lol) and their excess calories would have to come from commissary meaning it's probably crap food. I understand how they achieve it, but it's very interesting with people telling you how strict you have to be (using this exercise these reps, this machine) when really it breaks down to being consistent and just getting off your ass. - you're one of the big guys, I'm jealous, I was always a toothpick so I have to fight hard for every bit of strength I have (I started lifting at like 142lbs and had an ex-gf who played bball was stronger than me). I've never maxed either, there'd be no point for me lol maxing out on a 185 squat :P I hope to come back from this shoulder problem (it's very painful and I already have RA so this doesn't help the matter), and I would love to give a prison "routine" a try and see how far I can take it with proper nutrition (high volume bw exercises pretty much). What's strange is I can do pull-ups and chin-ups pain free not with weight but like a set of 10-20 yet the barbell kills me (I blame it on form obv). edit: also those pictures totally aren't fair, I would not want prisoners having access to that much oil.

I know. I saved it a while ago.

Like this guy for example T-Nation you never know someones reason for their physique.

That was one guy. You said plenty. Depending on the person, you can know. Take Mark Rippetoe, for example.

Actually, I started really training hard at 175 lbs. You just have to force the change. You need a good diet for any gains. I would recommend supplements like mulitvitamins, but I don't know what TC means by "natural." For all I know, he could be on a raw food diet. A gallon a day diet works. Just don't eat as much and the fat won't build up.

You're probably lean. People with lower bodyweights can do bodyweight exercises easier than your average 300-lb bodybuilder can. It's the weight.achilles614

Favourite exercises / routines?
Upper body. Just feels good.

Your bodybuilding / fitness goals?
It was to bulk up. It's now to stay in shape. My body type is more suited for rock climbing which is okay with me. Rock climbers don't bulk because the extra weight hampers their abilities.

On any weight gain / loss diets?
Slight weight gain. Not a very strict diet, but I watch what I eat and eat more than I need.

Ways to get motivated?
Overall I think about the end results. While working out: music.

And is fitness through gaming, such as Wii Fit, real fitness?
I have a long history with DDR. That game gives me the best cardio workout I've experienced. It's really fun too, keeps you motivated.

Although gaming is super fun, it's important to balance our lifestyles with exercise too. You may not neccessarily become invincible like you can in games, but feeling physically / mentally better through exercise is always a welcome change. So...
