Oh, ok. Gotcha.[QUOTE="YellowOneKinobi"]Do you know how statistics work? You don't need an enormous sample size in order for it to be accurate. Attacking the poll size is a clear sign of, You can also get any answer you want out of a poll due to the wording of the poll.Wow, they surveyed a WHOLE 400 people?

46 to 65 - 36%
Older than 65 - 32%
Mississippi.......... very conservative...
Just put this together and understand why that result ended the way it did. I bet if they asked more younger than older people this whole survey would go in another direction.

Shhh, quiet. Don't let them know.
low sample size, notso varied sample demographic, either this poll was in its self a statistical anomaly or it was engineered to get this outcome.46 to 65 - 36%

Very true possibility, It would have been interesting to see what a more extensive poll would have resulted in. I would guess the numbers would be substantially slanted the other way. Given the fact that they only polled 400 people makes me take this poll with a grain of salt. You're always going to get a percentage of people who are behind the times socially.

Yes, this is one of the main reasons why people vote democrat.
In private matters, liberals/democrats stay out of your life.
In fiscal matters, conservatives/republicans stay out of your life.
So really, if you say that x party stays out of your life, you're technically correct, but it really matters what you define "staying out of your life" as.
I define staying out of my life as staying out of my private matters, which is why I tend to vote liberal.

This isn't an example. An ad hominem is outright attacking the person presenting the idea rather than addressing the idea.

Nah...neither party stays out of lives. Well, yeah, hence why i put liberal/conservative before the party name. I was more going by what they promise to do, rather than what they do.If I was going to say what they actually do, I'd say essentially that Republicans want to basically steal from the poor and give to the rich, and the Democrats want to steal from the rich to give to the rich or whatever it is.
I'm exaggerating of course, but w/e.

depends on the context of the term, if you are using it to describe me, i cant make that call, if you are using it to describe the poll and/or its use here that would be correct.[QUOTE="tenaka2"]

An ad hominem is outright attacking the person presenting the idea rather than addressing the idea.
it is appealing to ones interests, ideals, or feelings rather than their intellect According to the WikipediaAn ad hominem... is an attempt to link the validity of a premise to a characteristic or belief of the person advocating the premise.

TC presented this to us because it is in-line with his political view it did not mater the validity of it. he used it not because it was intellectually honest but because it affirmed his position. TC is using this poll to attack the republican party even though when examined the poll seems dubious at best.though my assertions about the source may also qualify my stance as similar for different reasons as even if the data is questionable that does not remove it from the "table" so to speak.
I'm white and I wouldn't want to live there, sounds like half the population is uneducated white trash, who would want to live with that?
This can't be real. 70% have a favourable opinion of Palin? Also how can 14% not be sure whether they think interracial marriage should be legal. Clearly 54% of the people polled thought it said homosexual marriage. That's got to be it...Ace6301

AH. My apoligies, I thought he was trying to refute the person he quoted. Also, yeah, take Theo's news threads with a hint of salt. IIRC, he's a fellow redditor, and reddit tends to be a bad source of news unless you read through the comments.
Better than most, but we still have the habbit of whistleblowing a bit early.
To be fair, a lot of republicans are very old and are grandparents. We all know grandparents can get away with racism.
I honestly believe they confused interracial marriage for gay marriage when they cast their vote in that poll.
At least, I sure as hell hope so...

It's a lot of sources: New York Times, Wall Street Journal, random blogs that complain about some news story that I later google, Huffington Post, DailyKos, and so on.And no, no bookmarks either. :P
So? Do you really expect everybody of every race, religion, cultural background is going to believe in same sex marriage?

So basically, reddit, but in a more contrived way that somehow doesn't involve you being spoonfed your stories?Genius.

Like, god damn it. It's half way to being a hippie version of Fox News.
Not even a liberal version, just half-baked, dangerous, psuedo-scientific quack version of Fox News.
Well, that's just Fox News, but you get the point.
BUT LIKE, YOU CAN READ WHATEVER YOU WANT, I'M NOT JUDGING YOU, I'M JUDGING THE 'PO.
